Re: The Mandalorian

As a long time follower (and fan) of the franchise, I'm absolutely digging The Mandalorian. The writing has been great for the most part and the story has me locked in; with dripplets of key information in each episode. On top of that, you have a lot of creative action sequences, to go along with impressive visuals, and a killer soundtrack courtesy of Ludwig Göransson.

"You know who" continues to be the focal point of the show and must be protected at all costs. This is the way...

Speaking of which, my early prediction is that at the end of this season, Mando will receive his signet, and it'll be of Baby Yoda. smile

This show (along with a few others) happens to be one of my highlights so far for the 2019-20 fall season.

I really like this. I like the lead, very entertaining. Funny how you read emotion into his helmet.

Re: The Mandalorian

Agreed. This is true "Classic Star Wars," something many have noted. That fact that the episodes are about 30 percent shorter than your usual 60 minute (minus commercials) means it will more likely hold your attention all the way through. Action sequences are well done and plentiful. This show also takes advantage of new "green screen" tech which can handle more complex outdoor action in a realistic manner. Nice to see Disney is experimenting and paying attention to the favorable fan reactions the Mandalorian is getting. Many of the more recent Star Wars films have been less successful because they forgot "This is the way..."

The cool thing about Stagecraft, which Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) / Lucasfilm invented, is that it actually replaces green screens:

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said a Disney executive visited the set of The Mandalorian and thought that the Stagecraft-generated environment was physically there. “He had no idea he was standing in a virtual set,” Kennedy said, according to Slashfilm. “That’s how unbelievable it is.”

That's from https://qz.com/1754288/disney-is-trying … ndalorian/ - which also has a cool video about this great innovation. The future will look even better in the future. big_smile

Re: The Mandalorian

Star Wars is a too big of a franchise to use known actors. Mark Boone Junior looked like Bobby Elvis was in space, and I was waiting for Bill Burr to start ranting like a mad man. At least Amy Sedaris was makeup'd so that she wasn't recognized immediatelly.

Re: The Mandalorian

I've been a fan of SW since I was a wee bairn: I've read books & comics, watched movies, shorts, cartoons and even the Ewoks TV Movies (Maker help me). And I love Baby Yoda (because I'm a human being) but my goodness there's almost nothing of substance here.

I don't know if that's intentional or what but this Lone Wolf & Cub shtick will only hold our attention for so long and while it was nice to finally met the BOSS for level one... I mean season one, of The Mandalorian, I keep hoping the story will get more intriguing.

But as of right now I'm more interested in the next episode of High School Musical: The Musical - The TV Series than I am about what Mando's up to next (and for the love of the Flow please stop calling him by his people's name that'd be like me calling a German friend 'Germ' or an Islamic friend 'Amic'... just give him a name!)

I just hope season two begins to, you know, have some character development in it. Not just side quests for power-ups and whatnot tongue

It's an awesome show, they really nailed it.

Re: The Mandalorian

1st off, IMHO the season ended sooooo much better than Episode IX but so many questions, I have now... about Mandalor:

  • How did Mandalor fall? It was still basically okay in REBELS but then they just joined the fight...

  • Was it the whole of Mandalor or just the culture of the Mandalorians that were displaced/destroyed?

  • Speaking of which, what happened to Bo-Katan Kryze?

  • And what happened to the Darksaber?

  • Where's Sabine? Did she take her rightful place as Queen/Mand'alor?

  • BUT the real question is: will they reference the Star Wars Christmas Special again?

woahhh, what'd they do, build the guys spaceship out of actual real space stuff?

only sort of half watched any Star Wars this century but man, the first episode of this series had me thinking ffs, any given 5 minutes of this telly show has more creativity and ideas than the whole franchise combined this damn century.

2nd episode had

no dialogue until the 10th minute.

Rosario Dawson to Play Ahsoka Tano in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2

Rosario Dawson has joined season 2 of “The Mandalorian” in a role which will have “Clone Wars” fans brimming with excitement.

The “Briarpatch” star has been cast in the guest starring role of Ahsoka Tano, Variety has confirmed. Tano is Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice and one of the central characters in the popular animated “Star Wars” series. This will mark the character’s first live-action appearance, after being voiced by Ashley Eckstein on all seven seasons of “Clone Wars,” the final season of which is currently airing on Disney Plus.

Season 2 of “The Mandalorian” is slated to drop on Disney Plus this Fall, after showrunner and creator Jon Favreau confirmed that a second season was on the way late last year. Favreau also previously revealed that Carl Weathers, who plays Greef Carga in the series, is set to direct an episode of its sophomore season.

Read more about it here.

Re: The Mandalorian

This series reminded me so much of Firefly but with shittier writing and a massive budget.
So much so I just wished they'd done series 2 of that instead.

Besides the adorable baby yoda I found it a little... meh

Re: The Mandalorian

The style - the awesome pictures and the never before seen quietness in an action series is what I like the most. They  (or Jon Favreau) did sth bold and beautiful to rivive Star Wars. I really like it after giving up on my favorite Science Fiction.

No I´m not Tom Hanks - duh!!

Re: The Mandalorian

Mando has put the recent SW movies to shame. I wonder if anyone at the studio got the message.

Why 'The Mandalorian' Uses Virtual Sets Over Green Screen | Movies Insider
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufp8weYYDE8

For decades, film and TV productions have used green and blue screens to place actors into new environments. Now, LED walls are revolutionizing this process by projecting 3D environments in real time behind actors to provide the illusion of being in a physical location. These methods were put to the test on Disney’s "The Mandalorian," of which over half was filmed indoors on a virtual set. This process of combining traditional cinematography techniques with advanced world-building technology effectively eliminates the need for a green screen.
