Topic: The Mandalorian
https://next-episode.net/the-mandalorian
So, 2 weeks and 3 days until The Mandalorian premieres, and I was surprised to see no thread about it! Never been the biggest Star Wars fan (well... not since the 80's), but I like the animated TV series, so I am still quite excited about a live action one. I see on IMDB it's an 8 episode 1st season, but a 2nd season is already implied.

I suggest you look at the first posts of a handful of other recent show threads and then edit your post above, fill it with more info. selecta wrote:Any thoughts?
I'm not sure what to expect exactly and look forward to seeing how the show turned out.

Re: The Mandalorian
I'm a huge SW fan, and I'm looking forward to The Mandalorian. I haven't liked any of the SW animated series, I find them a tad too childish (and yes, I know SW is for kids... kind of). I just hope The Mandalorian won't be just more Star Wars overload, unnecesary stuff. We'll see.
2020. Meh.

Re: The Mandalorian
Jon Favreau serves as creator, head writer, showrunner, and co-executive producer, alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. So, with that being said, I have very high hopes that this series will stay relatively grounded, gritty, and underworldly (like Rogue One) for awhile. Rogue One is one of my favs (along with Episode VII) from the recent Star Wars movies. I don't expect The Mandalorian's story to turn into fanservice. I also trust critics as far as I can throw them, but I think they got the right people for the job this time. I believe they got deeper fans of the IP than in the past for the 30 min screener. Right off the bat, one of the biggest and most important takeaways from the early reactions to The Mandalorian is that it's kick-ass, action-packed, and basically everything a Star Wars fan could want from a live-action series. The set pieces, the aesthetic, the characters, and the story all come together to make for a series that Collider editor in chief Steven Weintraub has said is "the Star Wars thing [he's] been waiting for." Did I forget also to mention big, big budget as well? The Wall Street Journal has reported that The Mandalorian has a first season budget of nearly $120 million, and has been allocated a per-episode budget of $15 million. As a comparable, their per-episode budget is in line with the final season of Game of Thrones. Also, there’s a reason why everyone is mentioning @ludwiggoransson's score to #TheMandalorian in their footage reactions. Ludwig Göransson is super-duper phenomenal!

I really think you should give at least Clone Wars (the later one, of course) and Rebels a chance. I had a LOT of prejudice against animation, thought it could never work in anything but comedy, where any sense of realism could be sacrificed. But.. it's like a bump you have to get over. Just one more piece of disbelief suspended! And I feel quite confident that if you do give them a chance, you will be glad that you did. Perhaps skip Resistance, though....

I just hope Kathleen Kennedy hasn't pushed her gender politics agenda onto this as well. Just give me a goddam good story and keep your political views to yourself Disney.

Re: The Mandalorian
So, I though I'd post something after having watched the first episode. Although it's still too early to really tell, I'd say it looks great! 38 minutes seems a bit stingy to me, but other than that, I have no complaints so far. Visuals - great, story - to early to tell, acting - no complaints, tone - about what I expected. I will say though, connecting back to what I was saying before about the animated shows, that if I had not seen them before watching tonight's episode, I think I would have been confused. Hard to tell yet if the show is just starting on a mysterious tone, or if it is assumed that viewers are familiar with Clone Wars and Rebels. Edit: fixed as suggested!

Re: The Mandalorian
Yeah, quality show! It was somehow cleaner than I expected, but the world-building and humor was great. Werner Herzog as one of the actors was a surprise, I immediately thought of him speaking in the Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World documentary. And it took me a (looooooong) while to realize that Pedro Pascal is The Mandalorian! By the way, selecta: you don't have to hit Enter within paragraphs. It makes your post look great on a big screen but shitty on small screens.

Re: The Mandalorian
I thought it was a great start to the series. The lore is definitely building up, the SFX was great, and the acting was on point IMHO. I wanted to watch the first episode to get some sort of feel for what's to come. I loved it, however, I'm still debating whether or not to let the rest of the season run its course so I can binge it at a later time.

I have, but not in one go. I've watched The West Wing 4 or more times, it's a great show.

Re: The Mandalorian
I've seen many That 70's show episodes around 4 times, earlier Scrubs seasons (1-3) 4 times or more as well as some The Office episodes. All with huge gaps between rewatches though, many months or years. I think the only drama I ever rewatched was The Wire.

Re: The Mandalorian
Yea I can easily rewatch my favourite shows multiple times, I've rewatched Firefly and Letterkenny at least 5 times. There's plenty of others I would love to see again but simply haven't got the time.

Re: The Mandalorian
Ep 1 was great, Ep 2 was a bit dull.. Maybe I need to get used to the slow pace of a tv series compared to a SW movie. Really looking forward to the next episodes!

I thought the second episode was pretty good and didn't find it to be dull at all. ▼Spoiler Any showcase with the Jawas in it is going to be funny and annoying all at once. The first ten minutes were spectacular, IMHO. No dialogue, just pure visual storytelling at it's finest. Initially, I was going to wait until the season concluded to binge all eight episodes, but I've changed my mind and decided to go with the weekly serving. I look forward to the remaining episodes, and who knows, maybe I'll still rewatch all seven episodes and go out in a blaze of glory on December 27th.
