Topic: The I-Land
https://next-episode.net/the-i-land Watchlists: 882
When ten people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home. They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the island's extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves - or die as their worst ones.
Like we've seen with https://next-episode.net/another-life many people seem to hate it, but I've found it to be enjoyable so far. (Haven't finished it yet.) It's not totally awesome, but not crap either: it has one of the most surprising holy-shit-I-didn't-see-that-plot-twist-coming moments ever! --- The following text and a few replies have been split off from another thread: [ http://www.cancelledscifi.com/2019/09/1 … -and-more/ ] said that The I-Land may get a second season while it's already cancelled, but other than that their opinions are quite realistic.

Huh, wait, what? The I-Land has been cancelled? This is the first I'm hearing of this. Can you share the source that reported this when you get a chance? It was envisioned as a mini-series, but last I heard Netflix was rethinking a possible second season/part. I'm starting to lose my mojo, I need to be on top of this stuff.

Netflix themselves (at least in the French region) have also taken to Twitter to confirm the fact that the series is ending after season 1. When one fan asked if there would be a season 2, the account answered with the following: “There is no follow-up. It’s a miniseries. So only one season.”

Re: The I-Land
Thanks! Yeah, I saw that tweet. Okay, so we have the same info. Let's see if Netflix decides to rethink things once all the numbers pour in. I haven't watched it yet, but apparently it has a strong following of fans that enjoyed the show. No need for me to post anything in the cancellation thread.

Yeah, we'll see, of course that's always a possibility, but as of now I doubt it. Looking forward to the remaining episodes.

Comments and reactions are all over the place with this show, but the ones who hate it, REALLY hate it. I'll probably check it out at some point in the near the future. There are only seven episodes, so I'll make a weekend out of it. Seven or eight is starting to become the new ten.

Another Life was BAD, but The I-Land was yet another level of completely awful. It was tolerable episode 1-3, actually 1-2 was even kind of entertaining if you could overlook the annoyances, but in episode 4 something completely unforgivable happened, i think i have never seen such absolutely horrible writing EVER in a tv-show.

Haven't seen it yet but it's queued up. Is that thing you are hinting about already revealed in the trailer or something else?

Haha, indeed! Not sure if I like that development, but at least that gives them the opportunity to play around with new ideas with lower budgets - so that's a good thing. If the audience loves a show (enough), another season is ordered. dofus wrote:Another Life was BAD
I beg to differ. See what Lollie and I wrote at https://forum.next-episode.net/viewtopi … 29#p161729 (and feel free to reply there if you want to discuss that further). dofus wrote:but The I-Land was yet another level of completely awful. Interesting! Because of your reply I watched ep 4 sooner than planned and... really enjoyed it! I feel it's a bit like with Fight Club (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137523/ - Top Rated All-Time Movie #10): those who watched it just on the surface (as a movie about fighting) disliked it; but the more metaphors you discovered the more deeply you enjoyed it. Or maybe I just imagined the metaphors, who knows? The I-Land is still an enjoyable show so far. Hmm... that's almost a philosophical question, but I would say no, it wasn't revealed, just hinted at (but with the hinting finger mostly hidden behind the other person's back). Also, the trailer expertly laid a tiny false trail adding to my plot twist suprise. Btw, the trailer totally reminded me of the Fyre festival fiasco in the Bahamas (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9412098/), the trailers both share bits of the vacation/party feeling, another false trail (and even if The I-Land doesn't look like being filmed in the Bahamas, they added one of the famous Bahamas pigs (https://www.google.com/search?q=Bahamas%20pigs) at https://youtu.be/a1nhfV2YANk?t=19 - well done I say, well done)! I'd really like to have dinner some day with the creative folks behind The I-Land.

Re: The I-Land
The first and second episodes made me think of another version of Lost, however, it took a different twist in the third and as a result I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It could have a second series following the trials and tribulations of the new arrival on the I-Land but I think it could end after this first series at least there are no unresolved cliff hangers.

Naah, Another Life is pure shit, this was ok-ish. Strarting with the cast, in Another Life it's awful, but with Natalie Martinez (Death Race, Under the Dome, The Crossing) it's possible to sell TV series that depicts how a fresh paint is drying
3/5 from me, tho it had a potential to be a lot better.

Re: The I-Land
^that chick is always in lame shows! She's like a signifier of the show being mainstream and silly. Haven't finished the show yet, but so far it's the usual level of entertaining you get from a show like The Dome and The Crossing etc, with magical fighting skills and foolish, unrealistic reactions from people.

Yes, you can say it's one of those, tho Under the Dome and The Crossing were better and did better (IMDB 6.6 & 7.2)

Re: The I-Land
I also started out thinking it was a variation on LOST, until the third episode. Then I started thinking if LOST had used the premise behind The I-LAND it would have made the ending better. In fact I really kept hoping we'd see the Dharma Initiative logo pop up somewhere on some old piece of technical equipment. That would have been a hilarious retcon right there.

Hmm... not sure, but yes, Lost was awesome - but the ending could have been a lot better. DataMeister wrote:In fact I really kept hoping we'd see the Dharma Initiative logo pop up somewhere on some old piece of technical equipment.
Now that would have been awesome!

Re: The I-Land
Just finished the show. I liked the last ep less than the ones before - and the ending wasn't perfect in all regards - but I still recommend the show. 8/10

That's not a review... haters gonna hate! And you can find flaws in virtually every show, no need to get so upset.

Re: The I-Land
Lol, massive spoilers, but all accurate. There were a bunch of dumb moments. I'm biased, because I like Dead Island games, one of the few reasons I kept watching this show till the end.

Well no... it is a summary, and one filtered for comedic value at that. Just asking if that is really a valid description of the plot - I'll take g371's answer as a yes. Damn.
