Big Hero 6: Season Three to End the Disney XD Animated Series

Big Hero 6 is coming to an end on Disney XD. The cable channel has announced that the current third season will end the animated series. New episodes are set to resume on February 1st, and viewers will see a two-part finale air on February 15th.

The series is a continuation of the Big Hero 6 movie, and Maya Rudolph, Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, Jamie Chung, Khary Payton, Genesis Rodriguez, and Brooks Wheelan are featured as the voice cast for this Disney XD series.

The Wrap revealed the following about the two-part finale for Big Hero 6:

“The finale, titled “Krei-oke Night / The Mascot Upshot,” will see Krei enlisting Big Hero 6 to help launch his latest invention, a karaoke machine, in the first half. The second half sees the mascots deciding to add a new member to their family, presenting Hiro with an opportunity to defeat them once and for all.”

The decision to end the series now is due to a new Big Hero 6 series being developed for Disney+. Baymax is set to arrive on the streaming service in 2022.

‘On My Block’ Renewed At Netflix For Fourth & Final Season

Monsé Finnie and her friends are returning to Freeridge for one last adventure after Netflix renewed On My Block for a fourth and final season.

The show will return with 10 episodes with stars Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, Jessica Marie Garcia and Julio Macias back alongside co-creator Lauren Iungerich.

The series is a coming-of-age comedy about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high school set in the rough inner city.

Its third season, which consisted of eight episodes, premiered in March 2020.

Iungerich remains showrunner and exec producer, the renewal coming after she signed a multiyear overall deal with the streamer last year to develop new projects. She will exec produce alongside co-creators Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft. Jamie Dooner has been upped to executive producer.

It brings an end to the show, which was named by the streamer as its No. 1 most binged show in 2018, beating the likes of Making a Murderer, 13 Reasons Why and The Haunting of Hill House.

Shrill: Hulu TV Series Ending; No Season Four for Aidy Bryant Comedy

Shrill is coming to an end sometime this spring. The Hulu comedy TV series is ending with the upcoming third season.

Produced by Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks, Shrill is based on the book Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West and stars Aidy Bryant, Lolly Adefope, Luka Jones, John Cameron Mitchell, Ian Owens, and Patti Harrison. The story begins with Annie (Bryant), an overweight young woman who wants to change her life — but not her body. Annie is trying to start her career as a journalist while juggling bad boyfriends, a sick parent, and a perfectionist boss. She starts to realize that she’s as good as anyone else, and acts on it.

The series was renewed for a third season of eight episodes back in March 2020 and production wrapped last month. On Instagram, Bryant wrote, “that’s a wrap on @shrillhulu season 3! love this cast and crew more than I could ever explain. see you sooooon.” Though it sounded like she expected to work with them again, it’s now been revealed that season three will also be the end for Shrill.

Trickster: Season Two Renewal Cancelled for CBC and CW Series

The Trickster TV show will have a shorter than expected lifespan. The drama series, which originates on CBC in Canada, is currently airing its first season on The CW. Trickster had already been renewed for a second season in Canada but now, those plans have been cancelled.

[...]

On The CW, the first season of Trickster is averaging a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 410,000 viewers. Three of the six episodes have aired.

The cancellation of the second season by CBC comes a month after Trickster co-creator and director Michelle Latimer resigned from the series due to a controversy over her claimed Indigenous ancestry. Latimer publicly apologized for naming the Kitigan Zibi community in western Quebec as part of her family history before “doing the work to formally verify this linkage.”

Two producers of the series announced their resignations soon after the questions were raised. Consulting producer Danis Goulet quit and co-creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer Tony Elliot said he withdrew from his role as co-showrunner but would stay on as an executive producer.

On Facebook, Latimer wrote, “It’s with a heavy heart that I am resigning from Season 2 of Trickster. When I first read the novels that inspired Trickster, I was struck by the powerful tale of a family coming together to overcome adversity. I envisioned this story as a television series that would celebrate Indigenous talent and amplify Indigenous voices. I have listened to my community and feel that stepping away from the production is the appropriate course of action.” Latimer also wrote, “I stand by who I am and by my family’s history, but I also understand what is being asked of me. I recognize my responsibility to be accountable to the community and my fellow artists, and that is why I have made this decision.”

Now, CBC has decided to cancel the show and released the following statement:

Statement regarding Trickster

Jan 29, 2021

We have had many conversations over the last few weeks with a view to continuing production on a second season of Trickster. Those conversations included producers, writers, actors, and the author of the books on which Trickster is based.

Fully respecting everyone’s perspective, season two will not move forward as planned unfortunately.

CBC is extremely proud we were able to bring this compelling story to the screen and are grateful to the many talented individuals who made it possible.

We are as committed as ever to telling other important Indigenous stories, of which there are many. In fact, CBC currently has eight such scripted projects in development and we look forward to sharing more details about what’s next in the coming months.

Statement from author Eden Robinson:

“One of the best parts of 2020 was watching the young, Indigenous cast soar. The outpouring of support for the first season was magical. I’m deeply grateful that CBC and Sienna respect this situation. It gives me hope that future collaborations with Indigenous creatives can be done with care and integrity.”

Of the decision to cancel, Latimer said, “I was not involved in the decision that was announced today and am sad to hear that Season 2 has been cancelled. … I am incredibly proud of the entire team that worked so hard to bring Trickster to life, and I will forever be grateful to the cast and crew that poured their hearts and souls into its creation.”

The CW is expected to air the remaining three episodes of Trickster but that will be where the story ends, at least on television. Martin’s third novel in the Trickster book series, Return of the Trickster, is expected to be released in March.

Wynonna Earp: Cancelled on Syfy But Season Five Still Possible; Final Season Four Episodes Coming

Wynonna and her team will return on Syfy — for a little while. The cable channel has cancelled the Wynonna Earp TV series so, there won’t be a fifth season. On the bright side, there are hopes of finding a new home for the series and Syfy will air the final six episodes of season four starting on March 5th.

[...]

The fourth season of Wynonna Earp, which last aired in August 2020, averages a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 319,000 viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 27% in the demo and down by 32% in viewership.

It had been reported that the series had been renewed for the fourth and fifth seasons back in 2018 but then, there was a problem securing funding for year four. Season four of Wynonna Earp was ultimately produced thanks to the sale of international rights and Syfy had been on-board for season five. However, due to reorganizations and reprioritizing at NBCUniversal and Syfy, co-producing a low-rated show with complicated streaming rights was no longer a good fit for the channel.

Regarding the show coming to an end, Frances Berwick, Chairman of NBCU’s Entertainment Networks, said, “Every once in a while a show comes along with a powerful message that resonates beyond all expectations with its fans, and for SYFY that show has been Wynonna Earp. We are so grateful to Emily Andras and her incredible team who brilliantly brought light to real issues around identity and sexuality throughout the series four-season run. From the very beginning, this show deeply connected with our viewers—reaching new fans every season, filling up Comic-Con theaters, securing write-in award nominations and even landing multiple fan-funded Times Square billboards. To our ‘Earpers,’ we are so proud to have shared such an incredible narrative with all of you. Thank you for your passion and thank you for taking this journey with us.”

According to THR, “Wynonna Earp producers will continue to look for a new home for the series. A production deal for season five hinges on finding a new distributor to air it. There are currently no plans to film a fifth season.” The fourth season finale will air on April 9th.

“I’d like to thank our wonderful cast and crew, all of whom were instrumental in bringing Wynonna Earp to our loyal and passionate audience,” said creator and showrunner Emily Andras. “We couldn’t be prouder of these last six episodes on Syfy, and are thrilled to share them with our beloved fans, who have changed our lives forever. I have been honored to tell Wynonna and her family’s story, and along with Seven24, Cineflix and CTV Sci-Fi, are hopeful we can continue to share their inspiring tales in the future.”

Lou Dobbs Tonight: Cancelled; Fox Business Network Drops High-Rated Series

Lou Dobbs Tonight will no longer air on Fox Business Network. The cable channel has dropped the high-rated news series from its prime-time lineup. Lou Dobbs Tonight aired its last episode on February 5th, just a month short of the news program celebrating its 10th anniversary. The series premiered on Fox Business Network on March 14, 2011, and began as a CNN program.

For the immediate future, the cable channel will have a rotating group of hosts take over the time slot in a show called Fox Business Tonight. Per Deadline, the following was said in a statement about the cancellation:

“As we said in October, Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on Fox Business – this is part of those planned changes. A new 5 PM program will be announced in the near future.”

The cancellation comes shortly after Dobbs was named “among the defendants named in election systems company Smartmatic’s $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed on Thursday against Fox Corp.”

Your Honor: No Season Two; Showtime TV Series Ending Next Sunday

The end is near for Michael Desiato. Showtime has confirmed that Your Honor will indeed end next Sunday so, there won’t be a second season.

[...]

The first season of Your Honor averages a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 573,000 viewers. The series has done well for Showtime and, though it got off to a slow start in the traditional ratings (the premiere was released online early), Your Honor has shown some significant growth over the course of the season.

The cable channel promoted Your Honor as a “limited series” which, these days, can indicate one or two things — that the story will be close-ended (ala a mini-series) or, that a season will have a limited number of episodes and could return for another season (ala How to Get Away with Murder and The Following). As Kaley Cuoco said, ahead of the launch of The Flight Attendant limited series on HBO Max, “Hey, everything’s a limited series. If you don’t get picked up, you go, ‘Oh, that was just a limited series.’ If you do get picked up, you’re like, ‘Yeah, f*** that. We’re doing season two!'”

In this case, it appears that Showtime intends to keep Your Honor as a one-and-done series. A recent press release notes that episode 10 is the end.

"The ninth episode will air Sunday, February 7th at 10pm. The following Sunday, on February 14th at 10pm, the series concludes with the finale, directed by series star and executive producer Bryan Cranston."

The show’s story seems to be headed toward a definite series finale but, if that doesn’t happen, perhaps the creative team could be persuaded to return for another season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season Eight to End NBC Comedy Series in 2021-22

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is ending once again, along with the show’s chances of a ninth season. The workplace comedy series initially ran for five seasons on FOX before being cancelled, and then revived by NBC. Now, after three seasons on the peacock network, the show will end again. A premiere date has not been announced but the eighth and final season has been delayed until the 2021-22 season, following coronavirus production shutdowns.

Starring Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller, Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows the lives of NYPD detective Jake Peralta (Samberg) and others at the fictional 99th Precinct in Brooklyn, New York.

Here’s NBC’s announcement:

NBC’S ‘BROOKLYN NINE-NINE’ TO CLOSE ITS PRECINCT’S DOORS AFTER EIGHTH AND FINAL SEASON

Beloved Series to Air in 2021-22 Season and Signs Off as One of the Favorite Comedies of All Time

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Feb. 11, 2021 – Det. Jake Peralta and the squad will be gathering for one final stakeout as NBC will air the eighth and final season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” during the 2021-22 television season.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” in its first year of eligibility, won the 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best TV Comedy Series in 2014 and will end its run as one of the most beloved and critically applauded comedies of all-time. That same year, Andy Samberg also won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Series.

“I still remember the palpable excitement that night in 2018 when we announced ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ would be returning to its rightful home at NBC,” said Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We’ve always loved these characters and the way they make us laugh while also masterfully weaving in storylines that make us reflect as well. A big thank you to our wonderful partners – Dan Goor, the writers, producers and the incredibly talented cast and crew – for a comedy whose legacy will stand the test of time.”

“‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ has been one of the jewels in our comedy crown. It’s had an incredible run across not one but two networks, garnered widespread acclaim and captured the hearts of fans all over the world,” said Pearlena Igbokwe, Chairman, Universal Studio Group. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher and our entire wonderful ensemble, and our amazingly talented writers, producers and crew. And a special thanks to our brilliant showrunner Dan Goor, who could have rested on his laurels after season one but never took his foot off the hilarious gas pedal. ‘B99,’ it’s been NOICE!”

“I’m so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve,” said executive producer Dan Goor. “When Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy, he said, ‘I’m in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,’ which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for eight seasons. They are not only among the most talented people in the business, they are all good human beings who have become a family. But most of all, I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world. Fans who literally saved us from cancellation. Fans who fill us with joy. Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honor the characters, the story and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.”

In addition to the Golden Globe wins, co-star Andre Braugher has been nominated for four Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Capt. Raymond Holt, the esteemed leader of the 99th Precinct.

In its seventh and most recent season, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” reached 24 million viewers and averaged a 5.1 in 18-49 and 9.5 million viewers in total audience measurement. The series was NBC’s #2-rated program in digital and delivered 74 million official YouTube video views in the 2019-20 September-to-May season, for an increase of +66% compared with the previous season’s 44.7 million.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller.

Dan Goor, Mike Schur, David Miner, Luke Del Tredici and David Phillips executive produce.

The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fremulon, Dr. Goor Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Killing Eve: Season Four; BBC America Series Ending in 2022 But, Spin-Offs Considered

The story of Villanelle and Polastri is coming to a close next year. BBC America has announced that the upcoming fourth season of the Killing Eve TV series will be the show’s last. Season three of the thriller series finished airing in May 2020 but season four has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The current plan is to film the fourth and final season across Europe and in the UK this summer. The eight-episode season will air in 2022.

While there won’t be a fifth season of Killing Eve, BBC America is looking to expand the show’s universe and is developing spin-off ideas. Development is still in the early stages so it’s too soon to know if Killing Eve vets Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, and Fiona Shaw, would be involved in some way.

Here’s the announcement about the end of Killing Eve from BBCA:

POP CULTURE-DRIVING, AWARD-WINNING, PULSE-RACING AND CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DRAMA “KILLING EVE” TO CONCLUDE WITH UPCOMING FOURTH SEASON

PRODUCTION SET TO BEGIN IN EARLY SUMMER ON FINAL SEASON OF EIGHT EPISODES, PREMIERING IN 2022

AMC NETWORKS AND SID GENTLE FILMS WORKING ON A NUMBER OF POTENTIAL SPINOFF IDEAS TO EXTEND THE KILLING EVE UNIVERSE

New York NY, March 16, 2021 – AMC Networks announced today that production of the fourth and final season of the popular and critically acclaimed series Killing Eve is scheduled to begin early this summer, filming in the U.K. and locations across Europe, with the eight-episode season to premiere next year. The company is working with partner Sid Gentle Films Ltd. to develop a number of potential spinoff ideas to extend the show’s iconic universe.

“Killing Eve exploded in popular culture and attracted a dedicated and committed fan base from its very first episode. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant adaptation of the source material, the unforgettable characters given life by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, and the entire cast, along with our partners at Sid Gentle Films, have delivered a one-of-a-kind roller-coaster ride that has taken our breath away,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks. “We could not be more thankful for the extraordinary talents and efforts of everyone involved, particularly Sandra and Jodie, who made Killing Eve much more than a television show. We look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season and to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe.”

“We have been unbelievably blessed to work with extraordinary human beings throughout the life of Killing Eve,” said Executive Producer Sally Woodward Gentle. “From the magical Phoebe, to the delectable Emerald, Suzanne and now Laura, headed by the super-powers of Sandra, Jodie, Fiona and Kim, and with brilliantly talented directors and crew. No one knew what an adventure we were embarking on and there’s so much more to come. Buckle up!”

“Killing Eve has been one of my greatest experiences and I look forward to diving back into Eve’s remarkable mind soon,” said Sandra Oh. “I’m so grateful for all cast and crew who have brought our story to life and to the fans who have joined us and will be back for our exciting and unpredictable fourth and final season.”

“Killing Eve has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for,” said Jodie Comer. “Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout and come along for the ride. Although all good things come to an end, it’s not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember!”

Laura Neal (Sex Education, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) continues the Killing Eve tradition of a new lead writer every season, following Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell and Suzanne Heathcote. Neal is also an executive producer on season four.

Killing Eve stars Golden Globe(R), SAG(R) and Critics’ Choice Award winner Sandra Oh, Emmy(R) and BAFTA winner Jodie Comer, Emmy(R) nominee and BAFTA winner Fiona Shaw and BAFTA nominee Kim Bodnia.

Executive producers for the upcoming season are Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Damon Thomas, Laura Neal and Sandra Oh.

‘American Gods’ Canceled At Starz; No Season 4 But Maybe A TV Movie

The TV gods have turned their favor away from American Gods, at least for now. The series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel starring Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane will not return for a fourth season on Starz, the network confirmed Monday.

The news of the premature end to the often-troubled series is not altogether unexpected, and follows the Season 3 finale on March 21. That season-ender saw Whittle’s Shadow Moon seemingly killed after a vigil at the mythical Tree of Life for his seemingly deceased and estranged father, Mr. Wednesday/Odin, played by McShane. A pivotal point in Gaiman’s book, the incident set up American Gods‘ fourth season with Wednesday taking advantage of Shadow Moon’s sacrifice for Wednesday’s own resurgence in the battle against the New Gods.

“Everyone at Starz is grateful to the dedicated cast and crew, and our partners at Fremantle who brought author and executive producer Neil Gaiman’s ever-relevant story to life that speaks to the cultural climate of our country,” a network spokesperson told Deadline today.

In typical small-screen fashion, where nobody ever says never anymore, we hear there are discussions about wrapping up the Toronto-themed series to align with Gaiman’s 2001 novel as either an event series or a TV movie. However, based on the fact American Gods has seen double-digit ratings declines from season to season, any hopes of a continuation might be more smoke than fire from the premium cabler.

Developed for TV by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, American Gods has seen almost as much drama behind the camera as in front of it since its April 2017 premiere with the original cast that included Whittle, McShane, Orlando Jones, Emily Browning, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Crispin Glover, Kahyun Kim, Omid Abtahi, Mousa Kraish and Pablo Schreiber.

Fuller and Green exited the series during pre-production on Season 2, replaced by Jesse Alexander, and, to a lesser extent, Gaiman, in what became a problematic year as behind-the-scenes sharp elbows and long delays pushed its return to March 2019. Schreiber, Kraish and most publicly, Jones did not return for Season 3, which debuted January 10.

Gaiman is currently ramping up work on Netflix’s fantasy adaptation of his comic book series The Sandman, with casting earlier this year setting Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeev Bhaskar among others. The prolific author already has Good Omens at Amazon.

Produced by Fremantle, American Gods is executive produced by current showrunner Charles Eglee, Gaiman, Anne Kenney, Damian Kindler, David Paul Francis, Mark Tinker, McShane, Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk.

Starz’s upcoming slate includes Run the World; Blindspotting; Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force[1]; Black Mafia Family; the second seasons of Hightown, Power Book II: Ghost and P-Valley; and Season 3 of Step Up among others. Earlier this month it renewed Outlander for a seventh season.

The Last Kingdom to End With Season 5

The Last Kingdom‘s upcoming fifth season will be… its last.

As first reported by our sister pub Deadline, the Netflix series — based on Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories novels — will conclude with its 10-episode fifth season, production of which is currently underway in Hungary.

Alexander Dreymon, who stars as Saxon warrior Uhtred of Bebbanburg, said in a statement, “Playing Uhtred for five seasons has been a wonderful journey.”

Added EP Nigel Marchant: “With such a loyal fanbase, we’re excited to give viewers a chance to follow Uhtred on the next stage of his epic quest, where not everyone survives.”

The fifth and final season is reportedly based on the ninth and tenth books in Cornwell’s 13-part series.

TVLine’s Streaming Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect The Last Kingdom‘s imminent end.

Katherine Ryan’s ‘The Duchess’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season

The Duchess, the comedy from British-based comedian Katherine Ryan, has been cancelled by Netflix after one season.

The six-part series launched in September 2020 but will not return. It is centered around the powerful and problematic choices of a fashionably disruptive single mom living in London. Her daughter, Olive, is her greatest love so she debates a second child with her greatest enemy — Olive’s dad.

Ryan revealed the news on Vicky Pattison’s The Secret To… podcast. “[Netflix] didn’t want to make any more, not enough people watched it. I think something like 10 million people watched it in 28 days and that wasn’t enough,” she said. “But also, I’m not terribly sad about it. I feel like it’s a whole lot of work, a whole lot of time to make a sitcom. I was so grateful to able to make it, but I think it speaks for itself. I kind of like the way it ended.”

Rory Keenan, Katy Byrne, Steen Raskopoulos, Michelle de Swarte, Sophie Fletcher and Doon Mackichan also starred.

The Duchess was produced by The End of the F***ing World producer Clerkenwell Films and 3 Arts with exec producers Ryan, Dave Becky, Josh Lieberman, Murray Ferguson, Petra Fried, and Ed Macdonald. Toby MacDonald.

Ryan, however, isn’t giving up the world of streaming for long. Deadline revealed last month that she is developing Backstage with Katherine Ryan for Amazon. The show is being produced by Expectation.

She is repped by United Agents and 3Arts.

‘The Irregulars’: Sherlock Holmes Detective Drama Canceled At Netflix

The Baker Street Irregulars won’t be solving any more supernatural crimes for Netflix.

The streamer has canceled detective drama The Irregulars after one season. The series, which premiered on March 26, followed a gang of troubled street teens in Victorian London who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the elusive Sherlock Holmes.

This comes despite the eight-part series landing on Netflix’s top 10 list and edging out The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming charts at the end of April.

Based on the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Irregulars starred Thaddea Graham as Bea, the leader of the gang, along with McKell David, Jojo Macari, Harrison Osterfield and Darci Shaw with recurring spots for the likes of Clarke Peters, as the Linen Man, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Sherlock Holmes.

Produced by Doctor Foster and Black Earth Rising producer Drama Republic, it was written and exec produced by Watership Down’s Tom Bidwell with Drama Republic’s and Greg Brenman also exec producing. It was produced by Rebecca Hodgson with directors including Johnny Allan, Joss Agnew and Weronika Tofilska.

‘Liza On Demand’ Ending With Season 3 On YouTube As Google-Owned Platform Waves Goodbye To Scripted Originals

Liza on Demand, the half-hour scripted comedy series created by and starring Liza Koshy, is to end with its upcoming third season.

The move means that YouTube will wave goodbye to its last scripted series after pivoting away from the genre and focusing on unscripted programming instead.

The third season of Liza on Demand, which is produced by Above Average, will premiere later this year. It will follow the chaotic misadventures of Liza (Koshy) and her roommates/best friends, Harlow (Kimiko Glenn) and Oliver (Travis Coles), as they wade through the highs and lows of their 20s.

It is exec produced by Koshy, Courtney Carter, Deborah Kaplan, Harry Elfont, Marc Lieberman, Ally Engelberg, Caroline Miller and Elliot Glazer.

The third season of the show, which was originally renewed for its third run in January 2020, had been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

It marks the last original scripted series still on the books at YouTube after Cobra Kai moved to Netflix, Step Up moved to Starz and Kirsten Dunst’s On Becoming A God In Central Florida moved to Showtime for one season and the cancelation of Doug Liman’s Impulse.

‘Supercrooks’ Live-Action Millarworld Series Ordered By Netflix As ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ Releases Cast

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is turning Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy series into a universe spanning an anthology franchise. The streamer has set a live-action adaptation of Supercrooks, which delves into the story of Millarworld’s super-villains, as the next installment of the Jupiter’s Legacy saga.

Meanwhile, Jupiter’s Legacy will not continue as an ongoing series. With Netflix and Millar going in a different creative direction with the IP and the talent options soon expiring, the streamer has opted to let the high-profile cast — led by Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb and Ben Daniels — out of their commitments to the show.

“We’re confident we’ll return to it later,” Millar said of Jupiter’s Legacy, which could come back in a different iteration, sources said.

Netflix has an anime series adaptation of Supercrooks, the superpowered heist comic about eight supervillains written by Millar and drawn by Leinil Francis Yu, which will be released later this year. It will get a sneak peak at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this month.

While there are characters in the comics that cross over between Supercrooks and Jupiter’s Legacy, the live-action Supercrooks adaptation is in early stages, so it is unclear whether characters from Season 1 of Jupiter’s Legacy would migrate to it.

Supercrooks is described as a return to the world of Jupiter’s Legacy with a ragtag gang of supervillains, con artists, petty thieves and leg-breakers who band together for the heist of the century and the most outrageous crime story you’ve ever seen in your life. Crime pays, and they’re going to prove it. Some people just want to have the time of their lives and make a little dirty money while they’re doing it. If the superheroes get in the way, they’re going to be spitting teeth.

“I’m really proud of what the team achieved with Jupiter’s Legacy and the amazing work everyone did on that origin season,” Millar said. “I’ve been asked a lot about what we’re planning next with this world, and the answer is to see what the supervillains are getting up to. I’ve always loved crime stories, from Scorsese to Tarantino, and supervillains are always the most fun part of any superhero story. To do something exclusively focused on the villains they fight just feels incredibly fresh as we explore what it’s like to be a bad guy in a world crawling with good guys who want to put you in jail.

“Jupiter’s Legacy is a vast and rich space with lots of characters to mine, and so I’m happy to share that our next step here is a live-action version of the Supercrooks comic I created with Leinil Francis Yu a few years back,” Millar added. “Given where we’re going next, we’ve made the tough call of letting our incredible cast out of their show commitment as we continue to thoughtfully develop all realms of the Jupiter’s Legacy saga. We’re confident we’ll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great.”

Netflix in 2017 acquired Millarworld, the comic book publishing powerhouse founded by Millar, creator of such iconic characters and stories as Kick-Ass, Kingsman and Old Man Logan. It was the streamer’s first acquisition, aimed at developing multiple films and TV series, starting with the live-action Jupiter’s Legacy and followed by the anime Supercrooks.

Netflix remains high on the IP, with Millar working on an expansive TV slate that also includes The Magic Order, American Jesus, Empress, Huck, Sharkey the Bounty Hunter and Prodigy.

I HATE Mark Millar's comics but his IPs usually get picked up by folks who actually know how to tell stories. As a result I was pleasantly surprised by Jupiter’s Legacy and am genuinely sad to see it not get a second season  sad

EXCLUSIVE: Channel 4 has back-tracked on its decision to commission a second season of Victorian-era comedy crime caper Year Of The Rabbit after the coronavirus pandemic forced the British broadcaster into £150M ($205M) of content cuts.

Channel 4 renewed Matt Berry’s Year Of The Rabbit in February last year, funding the Objective Media Group (OMG) show alongside AMC-owned U.S. cable network IFC. But now, OMG is on the hunt for a new partner for the comedy.

“Year Of The Rabbit is a victim of the devastating effects of Covid,” OMG chief executive Layla Smith told Deadline. “IFC are very committed to the show, but we will need to find another partner — and we’re working on that.”

The show stars Berry as a detective in Victorian London, who fights crime alongside his hapless partner, played by Freddie Fox, and the country’s first female police officer, performed by Susan Wokoma. Recommissioned by Channel 4 in February last year, it was written by Berry and Emmy-winners Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil (Veep).

‘Manifest’ Canceled By NBC After 3 Seasons

NBC has opted not to renew missing-plane drama series Manifest for a fourth season. The decision came down Monday night, just hours before the options on the cast were to expire Tuesday and amid a strong showing of Manifest on Netflix, where it has been No. 1 in the U.S. for the past three days.

Manifest, from Warner Bros. TV and Universal TV, was the highest-rated on linear among NBC’s four bubble shows by a wide margin, especially in total viewers. Of the four, three — Debris, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and now Manifest, have been canceled. The remaining series, Good Girls, is looking good for renewal.

Manifest was conceived by creator Jeff Rake and was sold to NBC with a six-season plan that has been mapped out. That plan — and fans’ three years of devoted following — will fall through unless another network/platform steps in to pick up the series following its NBC cancellation.

As is the case with all high-profile series, WBTV is expected to look for a new home. Netflix — where Manifest debuted last Thursday, immediately shooting up to No. 3 in the U.S. before taking over the top spot — could be a possibility, but there have been no formal conversations yet, I hear.

While he was “devastated” by NBC’s cancellation decision, Manifest creator Rake remained hopeful that the series could continue elsewhere.

‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ Canceled By NBC After 2 Seasons; Series Won’t Move To Peacock, Will Be Shopped Elsewhere

The cast of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist might have performed their last number. NBC has opted not to give a third-season renewal to the musical dramedy with a passionate following, which topped USA Today’s annual Save Our Shows poll for a second consecutive year.

The decision comes three and a half weeks after the series, headlined by Jane Levy, aired its Season 2 finale. As Deadline reported last month, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, a middling linear Live+Same Day ratings performer with an outsized digital footprint, had been in consideration for a pickup by NBC sibling streamer Peacock. I hear that Peacock, the streaming home of Zoey’s first two seasons, ultimately opted not to proceed with a third season.

In addition to being a digital phenom, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist also has gotten awards recognition. Lionsgate Television, which co-produces the series with Universal Television, will be mounting an aggressive effort to find another home for the show outside NBCUniversal. The indie studio successfully relocated country music drama Nashville to CMT after its cancellation by ABC.

“In a world where finding loyal and passionate audiences is never easy, we believe there must be a home for this great, award-winning show with a passionate and dedicated following,” a Lionsgate spokesperson said in a statement.

‘Counting On’ Canceled By TLC After 11 Seasons Ahead Of Josh Duggar Child Pornography Trial

TLC has canceled the show Counting On after 11 seasons, the network confirmed to Deadline on Tuesday.

“TLC will not be producing additional seasons of Counting On,” read the statement. “TLC feels it is important to give the Duggar family the opportunity to address their situation privately.”

That situation is Duggar scion Josh’s federal trial for receiving and possessing child pornography, which was supposed to begin on July 6, but was pushed to November 30, 2021 just minutes before the show’s cancelation was revealed.

Counting On was a spinoff show meant to “follow the next generation of Duggars as they celebrate some of life’s milestone moments, including the realities of growing up and raising their own families.” It began in 2015 after the Duggar-centric predecessor, 19 Kids and Counting, was canceled amid the news of Josh’s alleged behavior. 19 Kids and Counting was, at the time, TLC’s most popular program. The last new episode of Counting On aired in September 2020.

In mid-May 2015, Josh apologized for “wrongdoing” after a police report surfaced and revealed that he was investigated as a teen for inappropriately touching five underage girls. His sisters Jill, 25, and Jessa, 24, said they were two of the victims. Shortly thereafter, TLC suspended and then canceled 19 Kids and Counting.

In 2019, Duggar’s workplace was raided by Homeland Security in connection with the ongoing federal investigation.

When Josh was charged in April 2021, the 33-year-old Duggar reportedly declined to have the charges read when he appeared before court via Zoom. His attorney plead “not guilty to both counts” on his behalf.

‘Good Witch’ To End With Season 7 On Hallmark Channel

UPDATED with more details: Hallmark Channel’s Good Witch will not see an eighth season. The cable channel revealed today that the series will end after the current seventh season, with the July 25 season finale serving as the series finale.

“Good Witch has enchanted viewers for over a decade with eight original movies, in addition to the seven-season series,” said Randy Pope, SVP, programming & development. “We thank our leads whose chemistry and talent made Good Witch such a beloved and uniquely special viewing experience: Catherine Bell, who has brought the inimitable Cassie Nightingale to life for 13 years, and James Denton, who as Dr. Sam Radford has added so much charm and humor to the series. We also extend our gratitude and thanks to the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work.”

A Hallmark Channel rep says there are no immediate plans for another Good Witch TV movie, however, “Catherine Bell, James Denton, and Katherine Barrell, among others, are members of the Hallmark Channel family, and we are in discussions on future projects.”

‘Cursed’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season

There will be no second season for Cursed. Netflix quietly has canceled the fantasy series, which is based on a key character from the King Arthur legend, after one season, I have learned. The cast has been released to pursue other opportunities.

Based on Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler’s illustrated book, Cursed was a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend as told through the eyes of the young woman, played by Katherine Langford, who would become the Lady of the Lake. Cursed, whose first season was released on July 17 last year, explored such themes as obliteration of the natural world, religious zeal and oppression, senseless war and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.

Miller and Wheeler executive produced. Wheeler also served as showrunner and writer. Alex Boden served as producer and Silenn Thomas as co-executive producer.

Law & Order: For the Defense: Cancelled; NBC Drops Fall 2021 Series But, New Show in the Works

One of NBC’s new fall shows has been cancelled before it even premiered. The upcoming Law & Order: For the Defense series has been dropped but a new spin-off of the Law & Order franchise is already in the works.

In May, the peacock network announced that For the Defense had been given a straight-to-series order and that the legal drama would air on Thursday nights at 8:00 PM this fall, followed by SVU and Organized Crime. This would give executive producer Dick Wolf three complete nights of network programming. Wolf produces NBC’s three Chicago shows on Wednesday nights and this fall, will have three FBI shows on Tuesdays.

Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) was to serve as showrunner and executive producer, along with Wolf, Arthur Forney, Julie Weitz, and Peter Jankowski. “This new show is exciting for me personally,” Wolf said in May. “We spent the last 30 years on shows that played offense. Now it will be great to play defense, and being able to do it with Carol is an honor and an opportunity for both of us to do television that hasn’t been done before.”

Now that plans for Law & Order: For the Defense have been scrapped, The Blacklist will be moving from Friday to Thursday nights to fill the opening timeslot.

Little Voice Cancelled at Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has cancelled Sara Bareilles’ songwriting drama, per The Hollywood Reporter, meaning there will be no Season 2 for Bess & Co. Little Voice marks Apple TV+’s first series cancellation.

Little Voice premiered in July 2020 on the streaming service. It tells the story of Bess (played by Star alum Brittany O’Grady), a New York City-based aspiring songwriter. Though Bareilles is an executive-producer on the series — alongside Jessie Nelson, J.J. Abrams and Ben Stephenson (Westworld) — she told TVLine in 2020 that Little Voice is not based exactly on her experience of breaking into the music business.

“We learned really early on that it was not helpful to the show to lock into this being my story,” Bareilles said at the time, adding that Nelson (with whom she collaborated on Broadway’s Waitress), once told her, “‘This is not you… We are creating [Bess’] world, and it’s inspired by you, but it has to have its own soul and its own universe to inhabit.’”

Little Voice‘s cancellation doesn’t come as a huge shock: O’Grady recently was cast as the lead in ABC’s fairytale drama pilot Epic. In the potential series, she’ll play Luna, a princess who has become cynical after a broken heart and who doesn’t believe in love stories but is about to find herself in one of her own.

‘Panic’ YA Drama Canceled By Amazon After One Season

Amazon Prime Video has opted not to pick up a second season of young adult drama series Panic, starring Camron Jones, Ray Nicholson and Olivia Welch.

Written and created by Lauren Oliver based on her best-selling novel, Panic centered on a small town in America where every year the graduating seniors engage in a competition they believe is their one chance to escape. But this year, the rules have changed — and they must decide how much they are willing to risk in order to get out.

Panic premiered on May 28 alongside a companion three-part “novella” on sibling Audible written by Oliver and featuring the voices of Jones, Nicholson and Welch.

Despite the company’s support, Panic did not connect with audiences the way fellow YA drama The Wilds did. That, along with the fact that the series’ first season did tell a complete story of the game of Panic, providing fans with a satisfying conclusion, led to Prime Video’s decision not to proceed with a second season, sources said.

Along with The Wilds, which has been renewed for a second season, Panic was part of the first crop of YA pilots ordered by Prime Video in 2018. As part of the push in that area, the streamer has I Know What You Did Last Summer series reboot coming up later this year as well as pilot Hot Pink headlined by Sarah Michelle Gellar.

‘The Ultimate Slip N’ Slide’ Not Moving Forward At NBC After Giardia Outbreak

NBC has scrapped reality competition series The Ultimate Slip N’ Slide. The show will not be returning to production after pausing on June 2 as a result of a crew member testing positive for giardia, the network said today.

Filming on The Ultimate Slip N’ Slide had been almost completed when the shutdown happened. According to sources, the logistics and costs of restarting production to complete the season proved prohibitive. Additionally, the competition show had been designed as a lead-out program of the Tokyo Olympics. As a result of the production pause, NBC last month pulled The Ultimate Slip N’ Slide from its plum post-Olympics premiere slot on Aug. 8. Family Game Fight will now air in its place.

The show’s producer, Universal Television Alternative Studio, in June confirmed the production suspension due to an outbreak of giardia, an intestinal infection, among staff. There was one week of scheduled production left at the time of the pause.
