Topic: Twin Peaks: The Return

After binging the original series + the movie + all the documents on the blu-ray boxset, the day is finally here.

Two episodes down + two available that I'll save for tomorrow. I've got to say, this is a bitch to watch with someone who needs to know everything at once.

I have a strong belief that this will live up to it's hype. It might be too soon to say but I want to believe.

...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: Twin Peaks: The Return

Ok, so now after 4 episodes I have some theories.... but since I have no one to share them with, I'll keep them to myself. smile

Re: Twin Peaks: The Return

I honestly feel sorry for people who only watched Twin Peaks and not other Lynch's projects.

I was really confused about the first two episodes but 3 and 4 made me 1000% into this. Lynch is just outdoing himself and so is the cast.

So D what was more creepy/haunting for you, the glass box or noeyes lady? By that I mean whole sequences.

Re: Twin Peaks: The Return

Can I just jump in Twin Peaks: The Return or do I need to watch Twin Peaks?

I've always heard the old Twin Peaks was fun to watch in its days, but hasnt aged well. Is this correct?

You really should watch the previous two seasons first, the story continues 25 years later in the 3rd season.

Don't know which is creepier. The lady thing was difficult to watch because of the effect. And the box thingy, well... I think that what we've seen so far is a missed opportunity. There could've been more stuff with that. I think that Maddy got in too soon. There should've been something more with it. In example maybe the guy was facing the wall and something came in the box but he didn't see it but was suspicious of something that happened... I don't know. I have faith that David knew what he did.

My theory - Spoiler warning

Spoiler

Good Guy Cooper is a halfwit because Bad Guy Cooper made The Other Guy Cooper as some kind of horcrux and they both need to return to the Black Lodge before GGC gets back as himself.

And then some notions, not so theories still - Spoiler warning

Spoiler

James looks weird, not just as character but as an actor also. Like he lost a really lot of weight.

Bobby as a police? wtf.

Harry as a character is still around but because Michael Ontkean retired he won't be back.

Why did Michael Cera look like Mutt from Indy 4?

Shelly is still looking good smile

Walter Olkewicz is back as Renault, not Jacques but Jean-Michel.

I think that's enough for now... the longest post of mine in years smile

Oh boy. Not only you have to watch the series AND the movie, because s03 is no hand holding whatsoever, you need to watch one or two David Lynch movies to get if his style is for you. I personally loved Blue Velvet and Mulholland Dr. so give those a try.

And about the series aging well... I think it did well enough for most people to enjoy even though you can see that its really old.

Ye, Dougie was most definetily a hoxcrux because Cooperganger was suppose to leave the world via the cigarette ligher in the car (Lynch, amirite), but he hold it in long enough for the Lodge to get Dougie. And as of Coop, I believe it's because he was in the Lodge for 25 years he acts like with brain damage, slowly getting his senses back. I mean, after he drank coffee he said his first word that wasn't a repetition.

As for the glass box, I think the absolute lack of "visions" before it went dark was the right choice, because glimpses of evil is like such an overused trope that I would be really suprised for Lynch to use it. For me the noeyes lady was way creppier because of the editing and sound design. Just... ugh.

Bobby as police is fine by me, happy that he got a good life. Absolutetly heartbreaking from him when he saw Laura and the theme kicked in.

YO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE MUSIC FOR A SECOND. Like, we all know that TP is known for its score and constant usage of music, but the first episodes are almost deprived of them. The first time we hear a familiar tune was with the Laura photo, which leads me to believe this is an 100% concious choice by Lynch so that when Coop comes back to TP we're gonna get the music back in swing. Fucking sure of it.

Also, best line of the first four episodes is either "ITS NOT ABOUT THE BUNNY", "You mean Jade has to give you two rides?" or "Apologies in advance for Albert". I vote for the last one. "Fix their hearts or die" also gets an honorable mention.

Ohhhhhhhh Twin Peaks is baaack.

Re: Twin Peaks: The Return

I loved Mullholand Drive and Lost Highway and tried to watch Twin Peaks some months ago.
I just couldnt get into it, it was to slow, to boring and a bit weird, dropped it after like 4 episodes or so, after or during the little guy dancing episode.

I will check out Twin Peaks 2017 but if it's anything like it again, then it's just not for me.

Twin Peaks is indisputably one of the greatest shows ever, however you have to watch it at the right time and recognize a few things.

First off, if you get to the end of the 3rd episode and you still don't like it, then it may not be your type of a show. That third episode is really the point where you find out if you'll like the rest or not.

Secondly, if you watch it and don't like it, then wait a couple years then come back. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have liked it if I watched it a few years ago.

Thirdly, there is a noticeable drop in quality about halfway through the second season. Hammer your way through these episodes, do not skip them. I know they are painful to watch but the payoff is worth it. The show eventually does get itself back on track just in time for

the final episode to be the greatest episode of any television show ever.

I recommend this show to everyone but that doesn't mean it's for everyone. Give it a shot though, it's really fucking good.

The Return, Part 8 - I want 45 minutes of my life back. Don't bother watching past the first 11 minutes of that episode.

Or, if you're a fan of David Lynch watch it all.

Not the best year ever.

The fuck are you on about, that was 100% David Lynch and I absolutely adore it. It actually used surreal imagery to convey a sensible story.

Yes. It made sense.

Re: Twin Peaks: The Return

With Lynch you got to take the great with the weird. The man is never boring. I enjoyed it because I knew from experience that as odd is it appeared it meant something to the plot.

Ep8 was just brilliant and genius. I recommend watching it multiple times.

That's fine, it isn't for everyone.

I personally loved it.  There isn't a writer or director out there who compares to Lynch.  Nothing looks, sounds or feels anything like Twin Peaks and there are no more seasons of Twin Peaks, the world will be worse off for it.

Not the best year ever.

I agree. It was a glorious mindfuck (excuse my french) to start the week with, all confused and amused.
