Re: Westworld

Excellent series with a great last episode. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the FX and even more so by the opening scene in this last episode.

Really enjoyed it!

A+

Re: Westworld

I'm going to be contentious I'm afraid but I found it clumsily written and very "plodding" in it's structure; almost as if the creative team were trying for a Game of Thrones style epic without having the talent, or depth of universe,  that is behind that show.
Throw in some titillation, via gratuitous nudity, and some blood and gore and violence and I'm sure they thought they had a winning formula; "Game of Robots" would be money in the bank surely?
Sorry didn't like it at all and was hoping for something better; but, as always, this is just my opinion of course.

Re: Westworld

^^^ this is exactly my thoughts also... i really wanted to like it, but it bored me to tears...

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: Westworld

Many viewers liked the slow build. Gives the show, and the characters, a lot more texture.

Re: Westworld

oh, don't get me wrong, i'm all for decompressed storytelling, but WW just meandered aimlessly.... no point having great characters if they've nothing to do...

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: Westworld

Re: Westworld

I enjoyed the 1st series. The 2nd has been a disappointment. It seems to have degenerated into a Sci-Fi B movie.

Will the plucky humans escape from the planet of the crazy robots?

I snuck in to the cinema and saw the original film when it came out on 1973!

For those into Apple's Carpool Karaoke, Westworld's Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores) and James Marsden (Teddy) are on the next episode out tomorrow Friday.

I agree. A boring soap opera. The first season allowed so many entertaining scenarios, we could see robot indians riding horses in New York streets by now, but no, Valley of something is not for everyone.

Re: Westworld

The new Westworld is sticking to the basic plot of the movie. There was even a copy of the old movie robot gunslinger (played by Yul Brenner, a versatile actor who carried off the role splendidly) shown in a background shot of the lower level "fridge" where the oldest robots are stored. The Yul Brenner model was in costume, as were many others in that lowest level) and the producers admitted that it was a shout out to the movie.

Re: Westworld

Could somebody please explain what the hell happened is season 2. There seems to be too many timelines to keep this thing coherent....

Someone should do a chronological cut of the 2 seasons so that it would be easier to watch. Lost was messing with timelines but it was easier to keep up with.

...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: Westworld

Not to mention there were quite a few chronological re-cuts of Lost season 6 without any FSW flashes. Some even placed all the FSW stuff at the end, as a sort of epilogue in the chronological version. But I agree, this season at times has been all over the place. Best episodes for me were, The Riddle of the Sphinx and Kiksuya. Haven't watched the seasonal finale yet.

It doesn't help.  I am still confused at the end with the time line swaps.

They do try to explain why it's happening but it doesn't explain when each one is.

You'll ask yourself, what happended to ...., but there is a small cut after some of the credit so keep watching.

Still a great show though.

+ show spoiler

Don't worry about that scene ... the show runners already stated that that has nothing to do with the timelines in season 2 .. it just happens way in the future ... Probably William shooting Emily will be the unavoidable destination all William "simulations" will end up at the same as Delos with his son ...

You're not alone Wizard. I finished watching the finale earlier and WOW! The funny thing is that my feelings about this season coincides with what this season has been for the most part -- all over the place. The writing this season makes me wonder if season one was real or just a dream. Is this now? Am I real? It almost feels like the writers purposely came up with as many twists as they could, delivered in the most confusing ways possible, as a big fuck you to everyone guessing their twists in season one. Yeah, they were definitely reading our theories and comments. Honestly if it wasn't for the post credit scene you could pretty much write this episode off as a series finale.

There were some exceptional episodes this season that I really liked, The Riddle of the Sphinx, Kiksuya, and Akane no Mai, but the difference with this season and the first is that season one made you think, and it wasn't always easy to figure out just what the hell was going on, but at least the answers were satisfying and the revelations were pretty damn awesome. At least the complicated stories and swirling timelines all ultimately paid off in the end. This season, on the other hand, felt like it was trying too hard to go to great lengths to establish higher stakes than season one's tales of indestructible robots trapped in inescapable behavior loops.

Westworld‘s cast is impressive. Its cinematography is gorgeous. Its central concept is as intriguing as it is innovative, and I have no doubt that this 2nd installment was just as meticulously plotted, but this season's insistence on maintaining a nonlinear narrative (plus several more dueling timelines) resulted in a story that seemed unnecessarily complicated, if not purposefully incomprehensible in places, and that was especially true of The Passenger.

This is a good read. It's pretty long but it's also pretty much on the nose of how I feel about this season...

Re: Westworld

This season has been a real chore to watch and I really only finished watching, not because I was enjoying it but because I felt I had "worked" through the 10 or so episodes and didn't want to have done that for nothing....I think I'm done with Westworld.

I feel the same. After watching 2x01 i already thought if i should quit Westworld but i stayed and "worked" my way through. And now after watching season 2 i think there were a few good episodes but overall i still think i will drop it.

Re: Westworld

Overall this season just wasn't all that interesting and to make matters worse it was completely unwatchable at times with all the poorly executed swapping of timelines, characters conveniently crossing paths to help move the plot forward, stale dialogue and weak story. Perhaps it was an amalgamation of those things that made it uninteresting? Westworld may be better than 98% of shows currently on television but that means absolutely nothing if it loses ones interest along the way. Besides, no point in throwing up inflated numbers if the field of play isn't all that great to begin with. Like I said, there were a few good episodes IMO but overall it got to the point where I was actually looking forward to watching Fear The Walking Dead before Westworld on Sundays smh. People tend to mention WW in the same breath with shows like Lost and GoT but IMO it's not even close.

I was completely obsessed with Lost (four seasons in) and ripped through the first three seasons in like two days. Hell, I barely made time to shower and eat. It's unprecedented, groundbreaking storytelling and format, mysterious properties, and intriguing characters swallowed me whole right out the gate. And the first three seasons of GoT were truly legendary, and untouchable by any standards. However, I'll give WW another chance by checking out its 3rd installment once it's all said and done, to get an overall assessment from the majority of fans first, and to curiously see how it stacks up to the aforementioned with three seasons in the bag. Although it's probably too late to catch up. If and when I do decide to watch season three of WW it better grab me out the gate otherwise, I'm out like the flick of a switch, and I ain't looking back!

Re: Westworld

yeah i have to agree that season 2 was a bit let down compared to s1. They made the show a bit hard to focuse on because so many timelines and on, maybe second time i can focuse better and have finnish subtitles for all episodes so i get better jinx out of it. sofar id rate the season 6/10. Finale wasnt bad at all. Wondering what gonna happen in season 3 smile

Wow!! I was sad for a moment when I read that the Westworld set burned down last year (https://fortune.com/2018/11/09/hbos-wes … rnia-fire/), but it might be the best thing that could've happened - trailer looks very promising IMO!
