Topic: Preacher
https://next-episode.net/preacher
Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher in the small Texas town of Annville. Custer is accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis in an incident which killed his entire congregation and flattened his church. Genesis, the product of the unauthorized, unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon, is an infant with no sense of individual will. However, as it is composed of both pure goodness and pure evil, it might have enough power to rival that of God Himself. In other words, Jesse Custer, bonded to Genesis, may have become the most powerful being in the universe.
www.youtube.com/watch?v= Just saw this trailer and it looks awesome. Plus I'm a big fan of Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun. Can't wait till this starts. AMC is on fire! What do you guys think?

Re: Preacher
BBCode? Is that what I've done now? I realised my mistake as soon as I posted it

Re: Preacher
Yes, not it's better. Personally I'm thinking of reading the comics, because the subject matter looks promising (and I don't have faith in AMC getting it right).

Re: Preacher
i know there's that whole "each to their own", and everyone has their own tastes, but Preacher is the one comic book i actively discourage people from reading... it boggles my mind grapes how it was such a success, seeing how it is, at it's core, purely driven by sensationalism and shock value... a strong central story totally absent... and it's usually about this point that i would shove an Invisibles trade into your hands, tell you "this is much better", and smile inside knowing that in a week you would be back asking for the next one... add to that, yup, i'll say it, Garth Ennis is a hack... and honestly, there is something hideously wrong with Steve Dillon's artwork. everybody's faces look like they are made of clay and have started to droop... [i made the now much regrettable decision in the 1990's that i was going to read every Vertigo book no matter what. I did. It was wrong.)
i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: Preacher
I don't know, as someone who has never read or even seen a preacher comic book, the synopsis of the TV series sounds pretty interesting.

Re: Preacher
yeah, i should have been a bit clearer on my stance, i jumped straight to "ohnoes" mode... i plan on watching the tv show, as an atheist who was pushed through a churched based educational system, anything that sticks the finger to religion automatically gets my attention... the concept of Preacher is solid, i do feel the plot failed a bit in the comic, but the scuttlebut is that they are deviating from the comics a fair bit, retaining only the spine... if they can find a way to balance out the gratuitous rubbish with decent storytelling, they could well be on a winner...

You are being totally unfair. If you tell me The Invisibles is better then Preacher, I'm with you all the way. No doubt, The Invisibles remain Grant Morrisons magnum opus, and that says a lot considering his massive career in the comicbook world. But saying Garth Ennis is a hack is just wrong. That man is an amazing writer, who delves deeply into the root of humanity, and brings out realistic characters with a depth unlike most of forms of modern narrative today. I would put a Garth Ennis Character up against any book, any movie or play out there, that man knows what he is doing... BUT, that is not what people think about when they think about Garth Ennis, they think about his over-sexualized, hyper-aggressive stories. And YES, Preacher definitely got away from him, the end of the book was nothing like the beginning. And I am certain he fell for the sensationalism along the way. But he kept it deep, like he always does. Look at the treatment of the Cassidy character towards the END of the run as compared to the beginning. All that being said this show is going in one of two directions: 1. They dumb it down, cutting away most of the actual comic. 2. They produce the most controversial Television show ever seen in the history of man.

Re: Preacher
I thought the pilot was pretty slow. There were a few good moments like the exploding African preacher and the vamp jumping from the plane in mid flight but tbh, if I hadn't heard from a lot of comic obsessed people that the story is great and shocking etc etc, I would have probably decided to drop it as it didnt really grab me, its a shame because I've been quite looking forward to this one.... I'll give it a few more episodes.

Re: Preacher
I read the comix when they came out and reread recently. Preacher requires a slow build, but then moves quickly. The first ep appears to have done it right. Try back later and check viewer reactions.

Re: Preacher
So I have very little idea what happened, or why it happened, but whatever it was that happened was a lot of fun. Some very entertaining moments - I like the surreal feeling they have going on in the midst of all the very normal background scenes. Some very awesome characters seem to be coming out of all this as well.

Re: Preacher
Same here, never heard of Preacher, pilot was a bit strange: like making a puzzle with pieces missing. I didn't even know the guy that jumped out of the plane was a vamp before reading this thread. Reminded me of True Blood for some strange reason. Not 100% sold yet, let's see how it evolves.

Re: Preacher
I watched first 3 eps and liked it. Added to my watchlist. Actors are doing good job and it does have this comics style of story telling a bit. I hope this doesn't become like True blood though.

I remember the comics and the TV version is a little different but very well done. Well worth a look.

Re: Preacher
Watched the first 6 so far, really enjoying it. Never heard of the comics though.
DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom". http://xkcd.com/488/

Re: Preacher
Was not happy about last nights episode in the fact that it didn't answer any questions about what's important. Don't get me wrong I still thoroughly enjoyed it but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere story wise. Only one episode left this season which could be it for the show if it doesn't get picked up for renewal (which i'm PRAYING it does lol) and i'm pretty sure there will still be unanswered questions by then too.

I believe it was renewed for a full run second season already.

Re: Preacher
It ended after 4 seasons. It got really weird as it went on, but I think the ending it got is a rare case of a really satisfying conclusion to the story. Anybody else been watching this?

I read the comix way back when and I though the TV adaptation was pretty good.
