Topic: Humans
Humans is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a 'Synth' – a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. In the hope of transforming the way they live, one strained suburban family purchases a refurbished synth only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences. Pilot was awesome. It's like a combination of Almost Human and Ex Machina. The actress playing Anita does a spectacular job and there's enough plot for more episodes. My only complaint is watching Katherine Parkinson playing a hard working mom after her silly role in The IT Crowd.

Re: Humans
I've heard people complain that the original Swedish show (Akta Manniskor?) is much, much better. However, I watched the first 15 minutes of that and it didn't grab me the way the UK remake did. I might try it again out of fairness, but I really liked this first episode. If you're interested, all the Swedish eps are available on Vimeo. The are English subbed, but posted as 15 minute "clips". https://vimeo.com/album/2747482/page:1/ … :thumbnail

That's cause Akta Manniskor (Real Humans) is much, much better. They rushed 5 episodes of the original into the first episode of this remake! For instance, If you wanted to know more about how Annita came the be the hubot in the family's home, watching only the first episode of the original will tell you much more about it. The casting in the original was so much better. I also liked the way hubots looked in the original way more. xrnzaaas wrote:My only complaint is watching Katherine Parkinson playing a hard working mom after her silly role in The IT Crowd.
Yeah, had that to. Not really happy with the casting overall, but that was the biggest disappointment in casting for me ! We only had one episode of the remake, so maybe the forgotten storylines will be put back in by flashbacks or something. But my hopes aren't high. I was disappointed with this remake. But we've been waiting forever for a season 3 of Akta Manniskor. I'm hoping this remake will raise fans for the original, so season 3 will finally air! (I have a theory they've waited so long with season 3 because of this remake) Still, it pains me that they remake a show from 2013 while it hasn't even ended yet! Also, after watching so many english shows, watching a swedish show with a different background and people is refreshing. Why are people so lazy to read subtitles ?

I agree, I watch quite a lot of Japanese anime with subtitles (I actually don't like English voices on some of them) I am watching Cargo (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381940) which is in German with English subs.

Re: Humans
Nice, I didn't realize it was a remake. So does the second season finale give some closure in case there won't be a season 3?

Well, I hate to say, there are cliffhangers. It's been a while, so I can't remember exactly (I usually watch the last episode of the previous season when a new season starts, especially if it's been a while). Here is an article where the original creator shares his thoughts on how he is disappointed the English audience will see the remake before the original. Unfortunatly still no news about a Season 3 there. While the show has major cult followings in foreign countries, I read somewhere the ratings in Sweden were not that great. In Sweden the show was showed on the network SVT, which is like BBC for sweden. I read somewhere SVT does not look at ratings for renewal of their shows, but looks at the perceived quality of such shows. And since they never said no to a renewal, my hopes are still up. And gone up since this remake has come to UK television. Since itv4 has a deal with AMC, I'm hoping they won't pour to much hollywood sauce on this remake . I'm very glad it's with british actors and happens in the UK, instead of the usual american remake. Since I like this subject and have had withdrawal symptons from Akta Manniskor for a while, I will watch the remake. Given that it will not butcher the original ofcourse... The fact the original series creator says it's not a carbon copy got me interested.

Episode 2 started slowly, but I enjoyed the second part. And I love the soundtrack, especially the tune played during Niska's escape.

Re: Humans
What I don't understand (within the context of the story) is why ▼Spoiler Detective Voss moves like a human when she's on the street, but stiffens up like a synth in this last episode, even tho her partner and others are around and, theoretically, could detect it. I know the show wanted to give us hints about her, but it makes the humans look blind. The only reason I can think of is that unless there is an obvious "tell" - like the color of the eyes - humans will assume everyone around themselves is human. I'm really liking this series. I tried to watch the Swedish version and only got thru the first 15 minutes. It just didn't grab me. Even The Husband is enjoying it, which is kind of a surprise for me.

Re: Humans
I wouldn't say that she acted more like a synth in the last episode, not until the moment ▼Spoiler when she locked the bedroom door so it was a rather big surprise.

▼Spoiler She's a good actor, I kept picking up little vibes from her thinking "boy she sure sits like a synth sometimes" Then when she pulled that shit out "ZOOMG she is one!!!11!"

Re: Humans
Episode 6 was very enjoyable. Normally I hate kids in tv shows but Joe just advanced to being the most useless and annoying character in the show. ;p PS. If you power me down now I will be unable to penetrate your wife. XD

But why isn't she part of the 'human synth' group? Did she develop emotions on her own? But she 'eats' so somebody obviously made her to spec for a reason.

I still think she does a great job in that role. ▼Spoiler She goes from feeling threatened (of having her role as mother/wife taken over by technology) to protective, all the time trying to understand what this robot actually was. I found it interesting she was the one who kept an open mind while her husband ultimately turned on the synths. I love how he gets busted on this move when the police come to the door. He also meets Mia for the first time (since she came out of Anita), and doesn't think to apologise. Hoping they all come right in later episodes, in general it's like this family was quite broken and this experience is making them become self aware - paralleling how the synth family are learning to relate to humans better also. She's not at all comical like she was in the IT Crowd, she plays a complex and contemplative person and plays the role very straight.

Had the 'misfortune' of following the link above and watching the original, well I find it a masterpiece touching core human issues on the other hand this soap is getting worse each episode passing.

I'll make do with the budget version then, and squeeze what's in there out and enjoy myself.

I though she did a great job of the role - far better than the ginger who played her husband. Then again I wasn't hampered by previously watching much of The IT Crowd - less than one episode of that dreck was enough for me.

Re: Humans
Awesome news! I think all the characters in this show are well played, will be interesting to see where they take this.
