Re: The Strain
the books are definitely a good read. if the tv show gets picked up for a second season though, i imagine they will change things in a big way. i guess it depends on their budget too. it was originally meant to be a tv show, but the networks never thought it would work, so it was made a book. i guess the show will either prove the networks right or wrong by seasons end.

Re: The Strain
I keep getting annoyed of the plot holes. I get the writer wanted to restrict it to a single city and with our current level of technology that would be impossible so taking out the internet from the city was maybe the only way but surely there are people like reporters who live in the city who are smart enough to spend 30 minutes to drive out of the city and report to their bosses or whoever of the vampire creature they just saw roaming the streets. Every teenager must have some form of footage on their smart phones they decided to record out of their window. We know the events in the show aren't happening in a single night so why don't families, reporters anyone drive out of the city the next morning and post a video or report something? Unless I misunderstood the show and that hacker stopped the internet for all of America?

Is it just me or did look worse than the last time we've seen him? And also... could someone please put Nora's mother out of her misery?

I assumed they do mean the entire net has effectively been brought down.

Re: The Strain
12th episode surprisingly was much better than the ones before even though it still was mostly about the preparations for the things to come in the season finale.

The Master could look better but other than that a very good show so far with great potential for development§

Re: The Strain
The finale was allright. Knowing how the first book ended spoiled some excitement in my case, but I still enjoyed it. Now the big question is what will season 2 be like.

Re: The Strain
Yep. Last two eps were better, but don't expect a major quality change.

Re: The Strain
So I finished the second book from the trilogy and I've got mixed feelings. The first part of the book dragged on forever and I already see a lot of boring filler tv show eps ahead. The second part really picked up and it was more fun to read, even though the storyline wasn't my favorite one. I've still got the third book in my plans, but I will probably spend another 6 months reading it due to lack of free time. PS. Yep, it's definitely going to be hard for the producers of the show to recreate the stuff from the second part of the book with a tv show budget.

Re: The Strain
Sorry for another bump but I finished the last book and felt it would be good to share. The book was good right until they revealed to be the source of the Ancients. I mean at that point I was thinking about dropping the book and I would if it was the first one in the trilogy. The chapters near the end were a little better ▼Spoiler like Eph wanting to play for both sides , but only a little. And I can already tell that ▼Spoiler Zack becoming the Master's "son" storyline will be annoying in the show. As for season 2 of the show, apparently they changed the actor playing Zach and also the Master will be getting a new look - http://oi58.tinypic.com/4jxqbq.jpg And they spent their entire budget on the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am7IeSvlicI ;p

Re: The Strain
▼Spoiler I guess if their budget isn't high anyway, the nukes probably won't be shown until the final one goes off. I am worried how the book will translate to TV. I wasn't with the first season because it was mainly establishing the story and the characters

Re: The Strain
Actually I wouldn't be worried about it too much. They could do a couple of ▼Spoiler cheap CGI nukes like '24' did and then film the rest of the show underground, during night or with fake CGI clouds. To be honest the books didn't have that many big fight scenes and they even made a time jump between the second and third book, doing only a small chapter on how the humanity was enslaved during the two years after the nukes.

Re: The Strain
the story was originally meant for TV, so maybe it will change to how it was intended. I guess it depends on how they develop season 2 and then on the ratings.

Re: The Strain
First episode of the new season wasn't that bad, but on the other hand the show didn't improve drastically. It's still progressing very slowly... like for example they didn't show the scene yet where and the shots of the fairly peaceful city with some fake CGI smoke were laughable. Still, it was watchable... ▼Spoiler the feelers' birth and the audience with the Ancients scenes were quite cool. PS. New actor playing Zack is not a lot better than the old one. The creature makeup so far is uneven... I liked the makeup, the Master ▼Spoiler didn't have any bright scenes and the ▼Spoiler Master from the Sardu flashback scene had a horribly fake skin.

I'm going to keep watching it because the adorable Vasiliy Fet the exterminator has grown on me, and I want to see him win.

Re: The Strain
I've finally decided to drop the show after watching the third episode. Just can't stand it anymore how they're staying in one place without making any real leaps forward. Also doesn't help that the writing in general comes very close to abysmal (crowd booing and then cheering the dead vamps was the funniest shit ever) and that new Zack is A-W-F-U-L (plus if you've read the books you'll know he'll only get worse ).

Re: The Strain
I watched season one and was mildly interested. I think that a show that is suppose to be based on real world, how things would go in real life, should show how things would go in real life if something like this where to happen and for that reason season two was so bad I think I watched 2 or 3 episodes before removing it from my watch list, I am surprised it is coming back!
