Topic: True Detective
True Detective
The lives of two detectives, Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, become entangled during a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. HBO quality. 2 episodes in and I really like it. Anyone else?

Re: True Detective
Excellent show, reminds me of The Wire or Top of the Lake. I think it's going to win awards.

Re: True Detective
The undercover stuff was pretty intense, even though a good eye could've noticed that the final scene wasn't really shot in one take. PS. Seeing Frank from Raising Hope playing a pimp made me laugh so hard.

Care to elaborate? I watched the scene twice and couldn't spot a glitch. EDIT: Here's a link where the director tells it is one continuous shot: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/172200 … take.jhtml The director built in possible edit points if two takes had to be combined to make the perfect version of the shot, but anyone who is wondering should know that the sequence everyone saw in the episode is, in fact, a true single take and one of the great achievements of filmmaking for television.

Re: True Detective
There were two or three moments when the camera work suggested it might have been done to easily switch between takes... like the quick look on the police helicopter @52:51. Of course I didn't read any interviews or comments on this episode before publishing my previous post and I have no reason not to believe the director. It really is a great achievement.

"If you get the opportunity you should kill yourself." XD Gotta love Rust's interrogations.

Re: True Detective
This show is a knockout.
▼Spoiler Rust is making 5 men in a circle with his cans, the Marty's girls played with 5 dolls/men in a circle round a naked barbie, the photo at Dora Lang's mom's house, the drawings and so on. Is Marty's father in law one of the five men?? The Tuttles must be. I need a support group for this show.

Another conspiracy in high places. There was something like this in Belgium recently, involving pedophiles who had enough clout to remain out of the media for a long time.

Here's a good gif y'all can use in the future to symbolize watching a bad show
I liked episode 7... it had more slower moments than usual, but the final act was superb.

Re: True Detective
The finale was kinda like Breaking Bad... it was very good but at the same time it seemed like everything was done by the book. Or I dunno, maybe I foolishly expected some crazy final twist.

Re: True Detective
For me this show was never about twists and even the whole serial killer case seemed more like a vehicle for the story of Rust and Marty. And if you look at the story that way, the finale was very fitting. For me, this is the best series since Breaking Bad, truely magnificient!

I 2nd this. I got caught up in the twists, we were supposed to. It's so well written, acted out, filming, sound, music. Fantastic show.
