Hi Eti. Yes, that was the exact same thoughts I had when I started watching it, assuming you mean the 2005- version of Doctor Who. It all seemed so corny and cheesy. Very unrealistic. In my humble opinion, this is just an inextricable aspect of the show one must come to terms with. It gets better. Not a lot, but a little. What made me keep watching was the occasional truly exceptional episodes, like Blink and The Empty Child, both written by Steven Moffat who eventually succeeded the guy who wrote episodes before him. He's Scottish, and went on to write sort of mysterious, yet arguably brilliant episodes. Because of personal reasons I stopped watching during all this so I can't tell you if it's worth it or not. It will stay a bit corny though.

The corniness and cheesiness of it all is part of it's beauty. You either get it or you don't really. Yes, some of the aliens look pretty poorly done, but if all you see when you watch it are people in rubber suits, you're missing the point.
I say persevere with it and if you don't like it after a few more episodes then that's fine, we can't all like the same shows. I grew up with it in the 1970's, so I've seen it go through lots of changes, some of them infuriate me, but I'm still a massive fan.
Re: The Time of the Doctor - Christmas Special 2013
Each season gets better than the previous season. The first episode nearly made me stop watching and most of the first season sucked. I was just really bored one week and stuck it out and when I got to the Girl in the Fireplace is when I actually started to enjoy the show. Its grown on me to the point were on a second watch I found myself enjoying the first season a lot more then I did the first time through. It's just a show that needs to grow on you.
If the earlier seasons are just to bad for you to get through, which I get as they are bad (to me). You might want to start with season five 'The Eleventh Hour' and watch that season. It won't hit you the same way as if you start from the beginning, but its the last tests of sort to see if the show is something for you. That being said I still think tenth's my favorite doctors (seasons 2-4) even if he had some really bad scripts to work with. Including the worst episode I have ever seen (Chloe Webber voice drove me insane)
