Showtime orders 8 episode horror series Penny Dreadful starring Billie Piper

Billie Piper and Helen McCrory have been cast in Showtime's Penny Dreadful. The eight-episode horror series follows several characters from literature, including Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Grey, as they sit on the fringes of society in old London. Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) will play an Irish immigrant trying to escape her past, and McRory (Harry Potter) will be a "spiritualist." Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, and Eva Green are also involved in the show. Look for Penny Dreadful in 2014.

Re: Penny Dreadful

This show was next on my to checkout list but since there is no activity in its forum I guessing either it was rubbish or nobody watched it?

Re: Penny Dreadful

Couldn't get past the second episode, everything was laughable about it.

Oh.  Just me then.  I think it's good.  A bit strange, not not as bad as some other crap that's out there  smile

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Re: Penny Dreadful

I really like it, I think its great that it's different from all of the usual stuff.

Re: Penny Dreadful

I watched season one online over a few days and like it then I watched season two on the weekly and it was unmemorable a complete waste like the entire season was some setup for something big that has still has never come?
The series started out with some promise but after one season everything changed and it became characters talking around things like everything is a big secrets that you would expect to go to somewhere at some point, have some big meaning but a season and a half later it is only an aimless drama with no drama

Re: Penny Dreadful

Managed 3 episodes I think... I've actually tried to wipe it from my memory

Re: Penny Dreadful

Well, I felt the same.  I did not watch any of the first season apart from episodes 1 and 2.  But my wife did.  Then I just started watching the second season and I liked it.  Then it got really good.  Now on season 3 and loving it.

Re: Penny Dreadful

The show is poetic and sad, it's not about action and car chase scenes. I enjoy this show - first season felt a little silly, starts building up in second season and by the third it's quite powerful.
