Re: Season 1

Oh my....well to clarify my post was meant for Orlando and only to point out that the headless horseman goes through many cultures and countries/continents and that it DIDN't ORIGINATE from the short story itself...AND that WoW referenced that short story is unlikely!

Why would anyone talk to themself on a forum - I'd like to hear your reasoning there? Or are you so simple in your ways you didn't realise that and need to have everything spelled out for you?

Re: Season 1

In American folklore[edit source | editbeta]
Main article: Headless Horseman (Legend of Sleepy Hollow)

The Headless Horseman is a fictional character from the short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by American author Washington Irving. The story, from Irving's collection of short stories entitled The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent., has worked itself into known American folklore/legend through literature and film.

The legend of the Headless Horseman begins in Sleepy Hollow, New York. The Horseman was a Hessian of unknown rank, one of many hired to suppress the American Revolution. During the war, the Horseman was one of 51 Hessians killed in a battle for Chatterton Hill, wherein his head was severed by an American cannonball. He was buried in a graveyard outside a church. Thereafter he appears as a ghost, who presents to nightly travelers an actual danger (rather than the largely harmless fright produced by the majority of ghosts), presumably of decapitation.

It was said that an apparition of an actual headless rider on horseback had once been seen in Winfield, West Virginia. On an unrelated but interesting note, on the third season episode of Haunted Collector it was confirmed that during the Battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee during the American Civil War, Union Lt. Col. Julius Garesché was actually decapitated by a cannonball while riding alongside Union Major General William S. Rosecrans.[6]

I copied that from the link you provided. If you click your link you can read it yourself.

Since you did something that seemed very silly and that disproved yourself I thought it was funny to take an easy jab at you. I dont think you need reason or logic when making a silly joke on expense of someone.

After reading your link I would hold it likely that the headless horseman in WoW do have some connection to the sleepy hollow story.

It seems like you keep calling me dumb and simple but yet I am the one who need to explain things to you? Sorry if I made you upset but I dont see why you need to be so harsh.

I really think you're wrong here Latitude75, from the very first year (7years ago) that the headless horseman appeared in WoW, its been pretty obvious to everyone that I know that plays that this is a direct reference to Sleepy Hollow. Its a VERY well known American short story and WoW almost exclusively references american culture.

EDITED.

proteinnerd: thanks for that! I assume it's a mountain to move for you folks to even begin to imagine why I would think of WoW after countless grinding of the headless horseman why I would draw that comparison - I guess I'm the only one in the world who would think about that...whow what a pathetic bunch you are...

Re: Season 1

I think your getting very worked up over nothing....pretty sure they guys here are just joking around...

I thought of WoW as well, having farmed that bastard for years (and still haven't had the helmet drop!). There is no problem not knowing about an predominantly american culture reference if you aren't from the states. Big deal. I knew the story before so realised where it was from, if that was your first exposure to the legend then you probably would think it was originally from WoW.

Just don't be like the guy that was ranting how lord of the rings ripped of WoW with orcs, goblins and wizards lol.

Anyway, I saw the pilot last night, I really think this would have made a better TV movie. I was ok but will they really be able to spin an interesting story over 12 - 22 episodes and possibly multiple seasons? Its really going to have to deviate (even more) from the original premise and if so, why call it sleepy hollow in the first place?

I'll give it a few more episodes

Yeah, it's just one of those days where you'd like to just bite someones head of for several good reasons - then comes along a small retard and kicks you in the leg lol

And no, I'm a big tolkien fan and read all he's books many years ago and that comparison just seems utterly stupid - or atleast maybee a great trolling for some big_smile

However was sad they killed of Clancy Brown that fast...

I am sure many of those who play WoW might have made the connection but they might not call it a reference and then start to argue about it and start with name calling even after proving themself wrong. I saw you added small retard to the list of names now. I think I am entitled to an apology.

so you're suggesting that a Headless Horseman appearing on Hollow's End is NOT a refencere to Sleepy Hollow. (Hollow's End.... Sleepy Hollow...hmm)

Re: Season 1

So is all this talking going on about how World of Warcraft made a Sleepy Hollow reference in their Halloween event? Cause if not that I am completely lost as to what everyone keeps talking about. Than again I think I'm still lost why this is a topic of discussion even if that's what your talking about. Can someone please fill me in whats going on.

Some time before the year 1820, Washington Irving wrote a collection of stories. It contain one called "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", featuring a headless horseman. This motif has been widely used in popular media since then.

And Washington irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was inspired by Johann Karl August Musäus collection of Rübezahl folklore stories as "The Wild Huntsman" also found in Brother Grimm's stories.
