Topic: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

They're really trying to make this guy Moriarty.

Well we know Red John is one of those seven, because while they can cop out like in the season 3 finale, they got to know if they do it will be to no audience, since I don't see anyone sticking with the show if that happens. So my guess is the bad guy from Nikita.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I seen way to much of Red John. seems like the series should get back to regular crime fighting and find something better do. Maybe they need new writers that could come up with something new?

I think the show is good when they either focus on solving crimes or hunting red john. When they try to do both at the same time it gets clustered and quite interesting for me.

Re: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

I used to look forward to this show every week, and now I will let it slip by for weeks at a time before catching up. I just happened to be bored when I saw this episode online which is what made me watch it.

That's just my long way of saying I agree that this hunt for Red John has been over played. Their making him out to be this mythical person that I don't see how they will ever be able to deliver on it. Also they killed Loralie so seeing her again in this episode just reminds me how much her dying annoyed me.

With their list of 7 I can honestly only see it coming down to two people. The guy from Nikita and the lab tech guy. Lab tech guy would be way to spot on from the Moriarty from Sherlock which just leaves the go to actor for bad guys.

Stiles ran Visulize so he couldn't be Red John working at the barn since people would remember him. The FBI guy from the hunt for Loralie episode and the one who wanted Lisban to work with him aren't good enough actors that Red John would just seem cartoonish. The FBI guy who snuck into Patrick's room is to spot on to be him. I forget the 7th guy but that's why I'm going with the guy I picked.

Am I the only one who's now almost convinced that Red John is actually Patrick Jayne's alter-ego? I'd thought of it before but now, after this latest episode it seems a lot more likely. Doesn't it?  roll

Re: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

So I'm not the only one! Good. smile  Personally I think that, in "The Mentalist' world the only person smart enough to hide from Patrick is his alter. I'm not suggesting that he knows he's Red John, I think he has an alternate personality that he's not aware of. After all, the show goes on about his less-than-perfect upbringing often enough. It could fit the story that he unknowingly developed an alter to cope with trauma.

The twist of course being that he then hunts himself. LOL, I'm probably way off-base but that came to me (quite powerfully) towards the end of 5x22 and it's something that's niggled for a few seasons now.

Oh, it's highly unlikely that I saw your post before and 'forgot' about it. I don't use the forums here much, I mainly use this most excellent site for tracking programmes. wink

Do we know if next season is its last?

Just worried this could go on for years yet :-)

Re: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

He can't be Red John or else the Lorelei storyline really wouldn't make sense. Unless the Red John all the minions know about is his decoy.

Re: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

At one point i thought Patrick Jane was the main suspect.

I think with how they have written things now it would not be possible. If they would try that angle now i would think it to be super bad and totally unrealistic.

I really like the character of Brett Partridge, the last name on the list. In every scene it feels like he is holding something back. Every time he is about to meet Jane he seem to say about him or Red John that in one way can seem kinda stupid but it seem to always be with the intent of Jane hearing it. Then With Jane there he gets all "You are the boss and I will do everything you want". Now when he is on the list of suspects i really appreciate the character and how the actor is playing him.
Not saying he is Red John or more suspicious then anyone else. Just a character that i think been played well.

Re: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

I hope they don't do that.

i would like to see a conection between Jane's past life (carny) and his mentalist past.

red john was not punishing jane for his remarks on tv about red john.

he was really punishing him for disappointing red john. they must've known each other before his mentalist times. or in his transition.

if they use the alter ego otion, thinking it will be surprising, it might really be a big cliche!!!!!

Re: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

The Mentalist‘s most enduring mystery will be solved in Season 6.
CBS confirmed on Monday that Red John’s identity “will be revealed by the end of this calendar year.”

Hm, I might actually resume watching the show... for the 583th time. tongue I've lost count how many times I've dropped it so far and then resumed after reading an interesting spoiler.

WELL...my guess is they with solve the mystery of Red John and end the series?
If they continue the series, maybe I'll start watching it again.

Re: 5x22 - Red John's Rules

It will be revealed until it turns out it's just another pawn. I will believe the revealed the identity of Red John after the series ends. Their cop-out in season three still rubs me the wrong way. Show should have moved on from there or made some ridiculous thing that Red John was in a group of serial killers and he had to find them...either way Red John should have died in season 3.
