The show examines the strange happenings in Hemlock Grove, a fictional town in Pennsylvania. Roman Godfrey, heir to the town's wealthy Godfrey family, befriends the town's newcomer, Peter Rumancek. Recent brutal murders in the town have stirred up rumors, and the two work together to shed light on the case while also hiding their own dark secrets.

1x01 - Interesting so far.....Hard to describe....maybe a slight "twin peaks"-ish feel(?) to it...

Re: Hemlock Grove

Haven't seen any torrents yet. Hopefully it won't take them so long to upload it as with House of Cards and I'm also counting on good 1080p rips.

Re: Hemlock Grove

1080p? can you even stream that on netflix?

I've watched 5 episodes so far - good stuff. Certainly better than most other paranormal shows around.

Re: Hemlock Grove

TBH, I'm not even sure I'm getting 720p on netflix, though I have "HD" option checked

Re: Hemlock Grove

I never used it so I don't know... but imo it would be stupid to put tons of money into making a show and then show it in poor quality. smile

Re: Hemlock Grove

So if you were to compare it with American Horror Story, if you watch that as well, what do you think?

Re: Hemlock Grove

Rule number one in making a supernatural show: Hire a Skarsgård. tongue

I have watched the first 7 episodes of it now. Not as great as the other Netflix original series (not that I expected it to be) but still pretty good nonetheless. It still has a lot to improve, especially in the acting department. (Hey Bill, maybe have your brother give you a little english lessons?), some of the acting is a bit over dramatic making it feel a bit soap operaish at points. Also there are points in the show where I feel like they try to lure in the Twilight crowd. I still like the mystery feel to it, Twin Peaks is one of my top 3 shows ever so any similarities to that is always a plus in my card. Lets hope that it doesn''t take the True Blood route and end up giving everyone freaky superpowers! For now it seems to be pacing itself way better than True Blood did.

Re: Hemlock Grove

Just finished last episode, and must say by then - no matter to any annoyances or faults of the show on some certain parts - I ended up simply loving it! Hoping next season will be soon.

As far as comparing this to American Horror Story it's not the same category even, this show had something special going for it so made it very hard to compare to any other story arc. Supernatural at times perhaps, small drop of twilight and True Blood maybee - still abit off and hard to compare.

For me most of the acting was done well, somethings you WILL predict rather easily though for me it didn't diminish the story even if I knew what was coming pretty much all the way - though it's quite dramatic and the end was well done and made me look forward for another season aswell. 7/10

Re: Hemlock Grove

Finally started watching this and have got through 7 eps since Friday has been interesting story so far although some very strange moments in it!

Re: Hemlock Grove

Absolute borefest...

This is a prime example why a novelist aside from a few exceptions should not be the one adapting his own book to the screen.

It's like he put every single page of his book in there making every episodes (I'm at ep8 ) so far 10 minutes of entertainment, 30 minutes of boring inconsistent yawning moments.

As I went beyond half of the season, I'll finish it but I sure ain't going to put myself to sleep for a second season. At least not if the writer is adapting himself his unfinished second book.

I usually really enjoy that type of slow and long building development but this one is terrible to me enough to search and dig this post and write this down. Something I almost never do. Nor do I rarely do put a show on the second screen just to keep an eye on it...

... while I work on my primary screen.

Myka : You slept with her didn't you ?
Pete : Well... you... you told me to investigate ok ? So... she's unarmed.

Re: Hemlock Grove

i'm at episode 8 aswell and i enjoy the show quite a bit.

It's not too scary so that i can also watch the show at night and no teen drama or romance crap that i run screaming away.

It's my first Netflix show and so far i quite like it, next show will be House of Cards.

Re: Hemlock Grove

I preferred House of Cards and Lilyhammer a lot more than I did Hemlock Grove. I watched the whole of HG yesterday and I really can't remember anything I really liked about it. Just not for me I guess.
