Topic: Season 3

Well seems noone dares to whine about this show, so i will start.

Who the hell writes those screenplays? After watching the first episode it felt to me, like they wanted to fit the whole third book into one episode. what the hell. can't remember seeing so surreal jumping from one action to another.

stop making 10 episode seasons!
the books are just so much awesome, you can not fit them in 10 hours of tv.

Re: Season 3

I thought it was a good intro!

They have warned people about the story lines as they've increased the main cast to 27 (http://www.gameofthronescharacters.net/ … -season-3/), so people will have less screen time...

yikes

I'm afraid i have to totally agree with that..I thought we were in the middle of the third book at 20th minute.
Anyway no hard feelings for first episode, lets see how the season goes on from here.

Re: Season 3

I think the first episode was a good setup. They saved some of the characters for episode two i guess but i felt it was a good start. I was worried the king beyond the wall would look to old but i think it worked very well with Ciaran Hinds.

All the time during the conversation that Daenerys had using the translator i was thinking "wait for the twist, wait for the twist". Hope it will come in the next episode.

I liked that there was no real big things happening in the first episode. That is often what i like the most about the story. Sure the big things taking place are often the most important and G R R M often manages to give us a lot of interesting twists and wow moments but i found that the slow paced journeys between the bigger events are one of the things that G R R M does best. With many authors the point of the journey is to culminate into big events. With G R R M it is rather the opposite and the big events are there to help move the journey forward. Dont know if that makes sense but that is what i like about the books and they sometimes manage to capture that in the tv-show too.

Re: Season 3

While the first was a good setup for what's to come, second episode was quite boring to be honest. I guess it will pick the pace a bit very soon because it can't stay flat for much longer.

Myka : You slept with her didn't you ?
Pete : Well... you... you told me to investigate ok ? So... she's unarmed.

Re: Season 3

I find the comments on pace a little strange when it comes to GoT. There are so many story lines progressing simultaneously--some slowly, and some quickly...all interesting. Jamie captured; Sansa plotting escape; Bran discovering powers; Jon Snow and the king north of the wall; Theon Greyjoy being tortured; etc.

Do you really feel like things are just dragging on? like the stories could be enhanced by pressing through them faster?

Re: Season 3

I thought the parts with Arya and the brotherhood were brilliant. Really lifted the episode.

Many other things were either introductions or setups which is good on a grander scale but it can be a bit frustrating for those who long for the more exciting parts.

I also liked some of the conversations between Jamie Lannister and Brienne. They did justice to the book and felt like they were starting to create an odd bond.

The Tyrells starting to make their move against Joffrey was also great. The music building up the scene as Sansa opens up and says Joffrey is a monster and then the shrug and eating a bite of food nonchalantly from Margaery. Then after that came Margaerys dance of words with Joffrey as her every sentence and action seemed to be well planned to stroke his ego and strange way to look at life and other people. I only wonder how they could leave out the song? the bear, the BEAR and the maiden fair. They better have saved it for another episode as it is brought up several times in the third book.

Yes! I loved it. The way she looked at the hound in the end was perfect!

Re: Season 3

Episode 1 was pretty good, ep 2 was mediocre, imo.

What he said! It's building up to something - I don't really know what you who's so disappointed is really expecting to be happening but for me atleast this show keeps it place as one of my top shows to watch!

Edit: GodZionu; I might agree with you they could make more episodes on some of this stuff but for an "outsider" like me who hasn't read the books I see no reasons to complain. It's like they could have atleast made 10 movies of LOTR (yes read all tolkiens books) - but I do take what I get and all things considered it's not all THAT bad.  smile

Second time i have to agree with God. I think its because of the books, they are magic and we cant see beyond them. At least that's how i feel when they're changing something in the plot or skipping parts. Anyway let's see how it goes in the next episodes.

Re: Season 3

Think you'd have to set away the books if you're at all going to enjoy this show, when was the last time you saw a show that followed the original books to the letter anyways? For us that haven't read the books its of no matter at all. If not you're just setting your self up for more disappointments...

Re: Season 3

I have read the books and i like the show very much. I am expecting the books and the show to be very different and they are. I dont understand what the people complaining are complaining about either. If they dont like the show that is fine.

I think we all know by now that GodZionu likes to complain about stuff but then a few weeks later he will come on the forums pretending like the people here have made him give the show a second chance and then he will speak about how much he loves the show. Seen him do that for several shows already.

What the show been doing in the first two episodes is just what G R R M loves to write about and what the books can take hundreds of pages doing without any real action. Setups and character development or just slowly moving a characters story along is what happens for most parts of the books. Now when it happens in the tv show they complain? I think the problem is rather that they have been expecting the tv show to be some action packed fantasy mayhem (someone mentioned the show vikings with all the fighting and battles). The game of thrones books arent like that and so the tv show quite accurately follows the books in that regard.
Also remember that when they change the course of events in the tv show from the books they do so consulting the original author in order to not mess things up. The only thing i thought of that has been awkward in them doing so was the much later introduction of Jojen and Myra. It happened much earlier in the books. Now they kinda forced it with them becoming great friends right away and Bran swallowing up all the random stuff Jojen and Myra says without a second thought. A bit rushed but i hope it will pan out as that storyline moves along.

Re: Season 3

I haven't read the books so i can't get disappointed in that regard but episode 2 was just not that interesting, to be honest.

Re: Season 3

Well I actually liked ep 2 even better than the 1st one. The high point was Jamie / Brienne - all the mocking only to get his ass whopped in the end was awesome  lol . I have no idea how the books are , but apart from Jeofrey Lannisters are all great characters (tbh Jeofrey really succeeds on being unlikeable / hated so I guess he delivers). GO Team Lions ! xD

Re: Season 3

i was a bit surprised that they compressed the story this much, but i suppose it makes sense considering a certain wedding, and we all know it needs an episode to itself.
also, the first part of arya's journey is a little slow, so i am glad that she has already met the hound. this means that there is more time to explore the really awesome parts of her story.

i really liked when cat told how she feels responsible for her family's suffering. she sometimes come of as a far too cold person, but this scene explained her motivations brilliantly, while also saying loads about snow's childhood.

as to the complaints about the seasons being to short compared to the books: The third book is split in two so it will get more than 10 episodes(!). How many episodes is hard to say as the three last books at some points are happening simultaneously.

Drake: Are the restraints really necessary?
Kellogg: Archer broke both Wu’s arms. While shouting “Woo!”
Archer: Happy accident.

Re: Season 3

As I said, it's only a question of pace as far as I'm concerned (not necessarily the content although obviously related). I didn't read the book up to that so it doesn't matter to me.

I can watch a whole movie of people talking in the same room (Man From Earth) without yawning. But this time, there was something missing and I was bored.

Some parts could've been put before or after and maybe it would've changed the entire thing.

Anyway, still an awesome show. I'm not giving it up just for an episode like this. wink

It's probably just an episode thing, not the stories themselves as I understand they have to be consistent so that everything falls into place later and of course, there's a lot of material to cover to reach that point.

Maybe some little things could've been shorter, or some details avoided... or even added in fact. I don't know, I'm not an editor nor a writer. Suffice to say that something wasn't completly there on this on.

Can't wait for the next one though. big_smile

Re: Season 3

I thought the episode was very good, and not slow-paced at all. One of the reasons for this, was the smooth transitions between scenes - there was always some sort of connection between them. I.e. after Sansa's talk with Olenna and Margaery we see her mother as she talks of Jon's childhood and her grievances, and thereafter going over to a scene with Jon and Mance.

Lots of people have all kinds of opinions. You just like to complain. Your opinion didnt have anything to do with it really. Your complaints did. Your opinions might have been the reason why you complained but your opinions was not the reason why i noticed your complaints. I made this a bit confusing on purpose but i am sure you can still follow it if you try.

You often post how much you dislike shows and that you will drop them (dont know why you havent done so about this show yet cause i know i would be better of not needing to hear you complain so much). Then a few weeks later you notice people are posting positive things about the show and you say you will start watching again. Usually that leads to you doing all kinds of praising. Not always but mostly.
