Golden Boy," is a drama about the meteoric rise of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City, and the high personal and professional cost he pays to achieve it. As he's interviewed for a story about his career, Walter William Clark, Jr. (Theo James) flashes back on his hard-fought journey from street kid to the most powerful man in law enforcement. After only three years as a beat cop, Clark's heroics on the job make him bold enough to ask for and receive the unheard - of promotion to Homicide Detective, angering the members of his new department who are eager to see him fail. Clark's disappointed to be partnered with veteran Detective Don Owen (Chi McBride), a gruff lifer just two years shy of retirement. He would rather team with First Grade Detective Christian Arroyo (Kevin Alejandro), the alpha dog in the squad who's just as ambitious as Clark, but without a moral center. Arroyo's partner is Detective Deborah McKenzie (Bonnie Somerville), a tough third-generation cop and the only female detective in the unit. Also on the team is Detective Joe Diaco (Holt McCallany), well-connected with tremendous resources which Clark might find useful. Though laser-focused on moving up the ladder, Clark's soft spot is serving as the sole caregiver and supporter of his sister, Agnes (Stella Maeve), a teenager demonstrating increasingly dangerous behavior. Keenly observant and politically savvy, the Golden Boy bases his career decisions solely on his need to succeed as quickly as possible, and he'll find that his epic journey will be filled with consequences. I don't know what to say, I love the format, the story and the acting. Anyone seen it and got any opinions about it?
I would recommend it as it is not the average cop show for the ones that are long tired of those.

Re: Golden Boy

I have the pilot but I'm waiting because I don't want to start another show that will probably be canceled...

Re: Golden Boy

It's averaged about 10 million viewers in the first three episodes. That at least puts it on the bubble.

Re: Golden Boy

Watched it, liked it, hope it stays awhile.

Re: Golden Boy

So anyone else who has continued following this show? I find it quite excellent so far, it's one of the shows I watch as soon as a torrent is available.

Re: Golden Boy

I really like it as well. To bad it's not going to be renewed. (Not official buy ratings aren't high enough, granted if it was on any other network they would be.)

Re: Golden Boy

Too bad, it's really good.

Re: Golden Boy

Because anything that breaks the mold never gets enough time to find an audience. People tune in expecting same old thing and when they see a show doing something different they turn away. The people who thought it was the same old thing don't tune in at first and by the time they would give it a shot, its already to late.

I think if USA Network aired this show or another cable show it would have been better. The Audience would have been 4mil half of what it's getting, but that would be good for cable. It would get renewed and with time grow increasing it's viewing audience.

Re: Golden Boy

Does it have a cliffhanger-ending? Or an unsatisfying ending? Is it worth watching even though it's cancelled?

Re: Golden Boy

I'm not sure I haven't brought myself to watch the last two episodes knowing it's cancelled. It's a really decent show I think.

Re: Golden Boy

I think it is worth watching, even when knowing that it is cancelled.

The season ends with giving some answers and a couple more questions.
Not questions as in hearing a shot and not knowing if somebody is killed more like you see the Golden Boy in the future but wonder what happened to his dead stuffed dog in his office. (Not a spoiler, he doesn't have a dog! smile)

Re: Golden Boy

Yes, it does play out like a miniseries, with lots of enticing hints about plot lines that would have played out had there been more seasons. But it was done in such a way that the one season has a beginning, middle and end (thanks to flashback and flashforwards.)

Re: Golden Boy

Thanks! I'll check it out when I have the time, then smile

Re: Golden Boy

Watched first episode a few months ago but it never lift me up enough to bother about watching the rest.

Myka : You slept with her didn't you ?
Pete : Well... you... you told me to investigate ok ? So... she's unarmed.
