The Following

When notorious serial killer Joe Carroll escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent Ryan Hardy to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture nine years ago. Hardy knows him better than anyone; he is perhaps Carroll’s only psychological and intellectual match. But the Ryan Hardy who broke the Carroll case years ago isn’t the same man today. Wounded both physically and mentally by his previous pursuit of this serial killer, Hardy isn’t calling the shots on this case. He works closely with an FBI team, which considers Hardy to be more of a liability than an asset.

Savinf this for the evening, anyone watched it yet?

Re: The Following

Grabbed it, but not watched yet, not heard of it 'til now.
I'll check it out later

Re: The Following

The premise is kind of stupid. "He communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command." - From Prison!?
I guess I'll give a try for Natalie Zea but I don't have high hopes.

Re: The Following

I watched the first episode and I liked it. Some pieces where hard not to guess because of what the show follows but still it was a nice watch. Trying not to spoil to much but the ending of the first episode was nicely done and really enjoyable to watch. Watching James Purefoy's acting as Carroll was splendid in my opinion too.

Re: The Following

I've watched the pilot and it was only OK. The idea of a serial killer mastermind having "friends" in all the right places isn't that convincing to me. I just hope that they won't dumb it down, making the show another Prison Break with insane plot twists. Oh, and I get sick and tired of portraying retired cops/FBI agents as drunks with poor social skills. Overall it wasn't super bad and I'm keeping it on my watchlist for a few more episodes to see where it goes.

PS. At least they've done one thing right, because Jeananne Goossen is more convincing as an FBI agent that Sarah Jones was in Alcatraz. wink

Re: The Following

The beginning was riddled with cliches ('only you can help us', Bacon is an alcoholic and doesn't like ppl), but the atmosphere is spot on and the pacing as well (with some really clever camera and lighting work). And I really like the use of Poe's work, like NEVERMORE written in blood, wow. The cast seems good, Purefroy is my favorite and always can play the shit out any character and Kevin Bacon is Kevin Bacon, the FBI lady is okay, looks good overall. But still, we need to wait for 1x02 to see where this is going.

Re: The Following

Yeah, major cliche alert during the pilot. If the writers don't control this, the show drops off my watch list, despite the fine cast and good direction.

Re: The Following

It was funny recognizing most of the cast from various tv-shows. I usually don't recognize that many but this one was different. To me the pilot seemed a bit rushed, covering the escape and capture in one episode but I see why it needed to be done.

To those complaining it was cliched, well the show recognized it itself too. At the end the dialogue between Bacon and Purefoy, Purefoy said that this was like a classic tale with a broken hero and all, so it was kinda fitting.

This one will go to my watchlist as my tuesdays are completely empty now that I have dropped H50, so there was a logical opening. One thing I want to bitch about though. That Nevermore text in the garage. How long it took Hardy to get that reference. The very second they showed it, I thought "oh a Raven reference, cool!" I mean have they not seen The Crow? tongue

Re: The Following

I'm not sure if I will watch anything past the pilot. I was fine with the show and it was interesting, but as soon as the nurse died I lost zero interest in the show. I can't really explain why, but the second it happen I just become incredibly bored with the show.

Maybe you can say he didn't caught on that one very quickly because he was distraught about the nurse.

I was disappointed at that point too. I would have liked her to continue be in it but her dead was payed enough tribute with Carroll's explanation to satisfy me.

And at least we still can see her in Californication so that quenched my disappointment too. roll

Re: The Following

Got to say I really liked it looking forward to ep2 OK some bits you have to take a leap of faith with the story but there are a lot of shows like that

Re: The Following

Entertaining enough to keep watching it for now.

Re: The Following

Thought it was pretty good. Good pacing, good actors, the only very negative thing that comes to mind was a few clichés.

The relationship Ryan had with Joe Carrol kind of reminded me of (Mentalist) Red John and Patrick Jane's connection and i actually liked that

Re: The Following

I would assume that they are both based on the Sherlock Holmes vs Professor Moriarty relationship. That would explain why they are simular.

Re: The Following

In a nutshell - worth watching or worth crapping? General census, people enjoying it?

Brothers! What we do in life...Echoes in Eternity!

Re: The Following

The pilot - very much yes. But there's still the question if the quality will stay.

I apply this to every show i watch - often majority of shows lose their quality

Re: The Following

2nd episode down. This is potentially very good entertainment for a season or two imo. I'm enjoying it, Bacon is pretty good, the new FBI-lady(Annie Parisse)  a great improvement to the first one(shipped out after pilot, nice touch),and Purefoy is magnificent as Carroll! It's still possible to screw this up, though. Slightly excited about this one!

Re: The Following

Only just watched the pilot, I very much enjoyed it.
It's good to see bacon again.
I was wondering about halfway through whether it was going to be a different serial killer every week or not.
That would have been a bit odd smile

Re: The Following

Saw the second episode. It's one of the few i'm gonna keep this fall! Love to see bacon again, and i agree purefoy is magnificent as caroll! I did thought the pilot was better then the second episode, but i think i'm gonna enjoy a weekly episode of this!

And the whole "we're gonna write a classic story", is a good excuse for some cliches imo. I never seen a show use it, so it's a great escape to make some cliches original again tongue.
