Well, might be just another pawn then. The actor is well known enough and the mannerisms indicated at least a connection to Red John.

No, because the news anchor was so easily willing to give him up...RJ's followers don't do that. Plus, RJ's followers know that he is RJ...the news anchor was just a pal that was manipulated.
Also, he's into driving race cars, and into commercializing space travel...also not compatible with RJ's modus operandi. He's just a cocky rich guy.
Plus, Jane is totally fixated on RJ...and he had no inclination to help on that case at all...and that's not how RJ rolls...he likes to toy with Patrick...he likes the thrill of being chased by him....so he wouldn't leave Partick trying to break into prison when he could be leading him on in a more exciting way...

Meaning that the LOST guy is either paying corrupt government folks, or his life is just a cover for a top secret government affairs project.

Well, it was a regular episode, with the exception that it is a multi-parter, and that somehow, in the end, something to do with the Volker case will enable Jane to have access to Lorelei in the prison.
There is no sense doing a 2 parter without having it connected to the RJ side of things too.

It would be sad that Volker were RJ , his reactions when Lisbon were questioning him at the hangar were to slopy, def. not RJ, also his personal assistant at first req. betraying him, not like RJ MO.
May be the Homeland guy, it may be the perfect time for RJ to tease Jane right in his nose.
I'd like to see the Jane-RJ encounter don't want to wait another season to see it.
but appearing right at CBI, where he may have his face recorded it would def. be like an end game move for RJ
