Topic: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Robcore wrote:

As long as Walt is alive the story isn't over...

Let's go with Robcore's quote on this one and assume that Walt will die at the end of the show. We know the show will end after six broadcast seasons (five production seasons) in the summer of 2013 and it is very likely Walt will die in the last episode. He could die sooner or the writers could pull a Shield-like finale (which I maintain is one of the best series finales ever), but for the sake of argument let's assume that is not what happens.

So the only question remains: who will kill Walt?

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

I was thinking about your idea that it might be Jesse...I could see that too...
...I could see him doing it whilst high on meth as well.

...actually, that said, they sort of dealt with his addiction and rehab pretty quick since the show has only covered about a year in real time.

So for now I'm torn...will vote in a while...

I can still picture it being Skylar too...

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think it'll be Jesse...

It has to be Walt's conscience that kills him...and that's what Jesse has sort of been...and metaphorically speaking, he's made all sorts of rationalizations to appease his conscience...and literally speaking for that matter.

I think I'll lock in with Jesse...

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Cancer does it.

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

I voted for Random Gang-banger since it just seemed poetic.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate for a while by saying that it would seem very repetitious for Jesse to pull the gun on Walt again. We had that moment already. I think having Jesse high on meth and then kill Walt would cheapen it (even though the "his drugs killed him" metaphor would be poetic), so Jesse would have to do it sober and see this - another murder he has to commit - as a redemptive action and Walt would have to believe he can talk Jesse out of it the same way he did the first time. So there's plenty of new ground to tread, but I still think the show would repeat itself ...

Skyler or Hank would be the other obvious choices. Cancer seems too "polite" and "normal" to be the answer - live by the gun, die by the gun and all that. I think it would be fantastic if it were Marie, Hank's wife, as revenge for Skyler, because that would be completely out of the left field smile

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Gonna be an epic standoff between hank and walt, where walt ends up dead.

So there's plenty of new ground to tread, but I still think the show would repeat itself ...

Darn you and your Devil's advocating...
Plus, for Jesse to be redeemed, there'd have to be some elaborate way for Jesse to not get caught.

...actually....I could see the last scene involving a white barrel and some clear liquid being poured into it...reminiscent of the gangbanger in the tub in season 1...and of the various other melted bodies and evidence that was disposed of in such a way. It'd be poetic because Walt taught Jesse how to dispose of the body in such a manner.

...if it were to go down like that, Jesse would have to have planned it sober...
...and an anonymous note to Skylar informing her that Walt would not be coming back...that'd be the icing on the cake...Skylar is free...she'll take back the kids...Jesse is free...Walt is slime...and the blue meth is off the market.

Could be a nice way to tie up all the plots at once. The 'good' folks win...and none of them 'lose' now, because Walt is gone, and his trail is so covered that it'd be like he just disappeared.

...actually, what'd make me cringe even more, is if it only seemed as though Walt was dead to Jesse....that Walt was actually alive, but in a state of seeming dead...then to pour the acid into the barrel....and then there's a twitch of Walt's eye or a blink....Jesse doesn't see it, just the viewer...and it's too late.

If there is a standoff between Walt and Hank, Hank is gonna die...because Walt sees him as the 'enemy' now...no longer as family that unfortunately works for the DEA. It'll happen like that because for Walt to die instead of Hank, it means that Walt's degree of evil was not as high as it could have been. It would be an anticlimactic ending. Walt wasn't so evil yet that he'd off his family.

Skyler is the only one besides Jesse that I could really see doing it...but that ending would leave a ton of loose ends.

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Personally I don't see the death of Walt as an ending to this series. It would be "too easy".

But lets play a game of what if here.

Lung cancer: I so hope this isn't the right answer. Would be too tame of an ending. Actually the reason I didn't start watching this at the very beginning was "why bother if he's gonna die of the cancer anyway".

Suicide: I think the god complex is way beyond a pitty suicide now. This would be a cowards solution, now for Heisenberg.

Skyler: This is a viable solution and they have been developing her character this season quite much too. But I still don't see her pulling it off, not alone at least...

Walter Jr: Well he's gone all emo now but I don't see him going to the extreme of killing someone, would be out of the character.

Hank: I think there will be a stand off, but Walt isn't the one dying.

Marie: There is a motive but the same with Walter Jr, doesn't have it with in her.

Jesse Pinkman: The obvious choice imo and that's why it won't be the right answer. He might have it with in him to do the killing but not the brains to do the planning...

Mike: Hasn't been with the series from the very beginning but ever since he came on his relationship with Walt has been edgy. If Walt gets killed by one man, Mike is my pick.

Saul: Might help with a cover up of a murder but defnitely not the one to pull the trigger.

Random Gangbanger: There is some poetic justice in that ending but would be too anticlimatic imo.

My guess is that if he gets killed it will be a plan put together by many people (possible combos: Mike and Jesse + maybe Saul or Jesse and Skyler). You cannot take down a mastermind like Heisenberg on your own, that's why you need help. But as I can only pick one, then it's Mike. The only one with the means and guts to do the job. Others are too weak on their own to kill Walt. But in reality, I think we will see Walt alive in the end of the series finale. Why?

+ show spoiler

I read an interview a while back where Vince Gilligan said that he was going to make the audience hate Walt towards the end of the series. Make him do so vile things that it's impossible for us to like him. So why would you make the audience hate a character just to kill him? Makes no sense to me...

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

It doesn't make sense to you to make the audience hate a character so that you can kill him in the end? really?

It doesn't make sense to end the show with Walt still alive...because if he's alive, there is more story...
I mean, if he escalates to Gus' Empire status, it isn't over...because even for Gus, it wasn't over until he was dead.
If he messes up, and Hank finds out about him, well the story can't be over until justice is served.

I'm not sure what you count as a good ending to a show...but one where the morality that gives the show its intensity and tension is totally abandoned...that's not a good ending...
We stay tuned in, because we want to see how Walt evades accountability and justice by the skin of his teeth week after week...
It can't end with, "And Walt was sooOOoo evil and brilliant, that he evaded the police and was never caught ever, the end."

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Well let me explain myself a little.

If this was practically any other series I would perfectly understand making the audience to hate a character to give the audience a satisfactory ending by then killing him. But on the case of BB and Gilligan that would seem too straight forward. In fact for some reason I feel that the whole "Walt dies" ending would be a cop out ending. I don't see the story here as "The Rise and/or fall of Heisenberg". There is way more to it than that. We are seeing Walt slipping more and more to the dark side. Remember back in Season 1 how much he struggles to kill that one drug dealer? Fast forward to Season 5 and a kid dies in front of him and the next scene he's cooking meth whistling a tune. If you think the show is about his journey to dark side, the ending could very well be him having his own empire and the cost of that being losing everyone important to him. But to be honest I don't want to go guessing on the ending. Usually I love playing what if with TV-shows. I know whatever we make up here, Vince Gilligan will make a better choice. Him dying is just way too obvious, which is why I hope you are wrong.

And yes I know I have insane hopes for the series finale to be a mindblowing experience.

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

This is interesting. One thing i hope is that the series actually get to end properly. It could end on a cheep cop out due to poor ratings or whatever.

Who kills him depends on when. If the next season is the last here are my thoughts. Skylar and Jessie get to know eachother a bit better. One of them kills him with the help of the other. Might be Jessie or Skylar who actually pulls the trigger. But i think they will cooperate.
It might be half off camera only verified by a look on the funeral.

Both have motives and i think both have the gut to kill someone. I think Jessie is figuring out that White is getting indifferent and evil. Skylar might be acting all week now but the truth is she is actually quite bright. She is plotting his death that much we already know.

I dont want to be too specific but i think Jessie might act as decoy while Skylar is the one suppose to kill him. Jessie might give his life on purpose to take him down.

These are just two theories though i can think of more than these.

If i was the writer of this show id end it with Walter goes to prison and dies of cancer. That would be kind of awesome. It is a kind of poetry that he dies of what started it all you know.

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

What i meant with skylar is acting week is that i think its abit of a face. In some way it feels wrong the way shes acting.

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Well, 9 options remain!

...and there are 9 episodes left in the series....

Maybe Walt will get away in the end. If all the people on the list besides Walt are gone, that would sort of count as an ending as well...
Picture this: in the last episode he just snaps...kills his family, and Hank and all the other characters...then gets caught, alive, and rots in prison, in solitary confinement, from then on. The end.

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Well that was a bit spoilerish Robcore, but I forgive you. Actually there are only 8 choices left and here's why: (spoils a death of a character on the list so unspoiler at your own risk, I know I'm right with this one)

+ show spoiler

Remember that ricin filled cigarette Walt hid? And I mean hid and not destroyed. What we know from this series is that something hidden will not stay hidden. If it had no use anymore it would have been destroyed. Also who just started smoking again? Yep, Skyler! Talk about a wee bit too coincidental...

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

...ahh, good point, mclame...

...but...

I'm not sure...because the intent with the cigarette was just to hide the poison...Gus was never supposed to smoke it. If anything, I could see it happening by accident...

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

I'd say its abit nitpicking, there are still plenty of scenarios open - however im quite convinced the show will go out with a bang (hopefully) - with more than one deaths...pinkman for some  reason i beleive  survive  last  man standing!

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Actually now that I think about this more

+ show spoiler

Walt Jr has been all emo lately. So what if he comes across the cigarette and smokes it? Walt Sr could plant it in Skylers cigarettes but Walt Jr in all his emo rebelling rage would sneak one from his mom and that would cause Walt to accidentally kill his son. With a tiwst like that it would be easy to see Skyler and Jesse plot the death of Walt Sr. (And I still think it takes at least 2 people to kill Walt)

Sorry for the excessive use of spoiler tags, but I did manage to spoil a whole season of Dexter before with my guessings, so I'm being extra cautious!

no way hes gonna kill hes wife...hes family is sacred to him - or atleast sooner or later he will realize it, will sacrifice himself for jessy or whoever to make up for all the wrongs he did to him and everyone else, im guessing there will be alot of sympathy shared in the end...then booom!

A couple seasons ago I would have agreed with you latitude and I still do when it comes to his kids. But Skyler on the other hand has cheated on him and pretty much despises him. And judging from those dinner table scenes all the love Walt had for her is pretty long gone too. And the only reason he is with him are the kids and I guess part of his messiah complex and narcissism stops him from letting her go. Also Walt coming to his senses at the end, my bet is on the exact opposite. He's just too long gone in the deep end to redeem himself.

The show will end next season - no ifs or buts about it. AMC wouldn't pay for more episodes, even though the ratings are good, so they gave Vince Gilligan the heads up that he has 16 episodes total (8 now, 8 next summer) to wrap things up. So whatever happens in 9 episodes will have been planned at least for a season, hopefully from the beginning, and implemented properly with enough build up.

It all seems so obvious now...

Re: Who Kills Walt in the Series Finale?

Then again, maybe Walt escapes to Miami after creating a major body count back home. The finale can take place with a crossover episode with Dexter.
