The Returned (fr. Les Revenants)

Nightfall is nigh. Camille, a young red-headed teenager, is in a hurry to go back home, in the calm of a small town in the mountains. She's hungry, and she's worried : how can she have ended up in the wild so far from home without any recollection of what she was doing there ? Camille died three years ago in a car crash.

In this long-awaited series, which Canal+ will air this autumn, there will be a handful like Camille, departed coming back among the living. Shock for the bereaved parents, brothers & sisters, spouses. Plunge into a scary unknown for the living dead : why them ? Are they still the same ? Can they still find their place ? Fabrice de la Patellière, director of original programming, saw with Les revenants "an opportunity to tackle the fantasy genre in an unusual way".

Shooting of episode 1.08 concluded last Monday in Annecy, Haute-Savoie. It was a wrap for season 1, which will premiere on November 26 at 9pm (2 episodes each Monday). The 1st season of Les revenants will end on December 17.

seems interesting , I'd like to add it to watch list if I had the option to ( feel burdened to request it tongue ) , it's been a while since I've watched French show and the premise doesn't sound that bad.

It's not possible, because the show isn't even listed on tvrage. Hopefully that'll change soon and I'm also hoping that someone will release the show after the premiere and provide English subs. tongue

Just watched the entire season (8 episodes) in two days and pretty much loved it. The show is much more about the characters and their dramas than about "why the returned have returned". It still keeps interesting in that aspect, but the ending of the season doesn't explain much (understandable since they're planning season 2). The show didn't have any real flaws except for poor CGI in a couple of scenes... the actors were well casted and they all did their jobs great, the movie was great in the visual aspect (beautiful mountain scenery!!) and I also loved the soundtrack (here's a great main theme - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ex9r_u0JHj8)

My recommendation - don't wait for the US remake, especially since the Bluray version of the show has perfect English subtitles.

I think it's different, I'm not sure if its based on the book like Resurrection is supposed to be.

Its the US remake, but they're very different shows.  Versions with English subs are definitely out there, I can't  say where right now as I'm at work.

I even watched the film that they're both based on, and that was different again.

Resurrection isn't the "official" remake of this show. Personally I couldn't get past the pilot of the ABC show... too much soapy drama going on in there. A&E (Bates Motel) will be doing a remake. There's even an article which compares characters and actors from the original show and the planned remake:

....and they say there are no more original ideas out there!

Yeah, there's a lot of mix up. The French show and A&E remake are (loosely) based on a 2004 film Les Revenants (They Came Back). The ABC show is based on a 2013 novel entitled The Returned (which seems like a rip-off of the 2004 film and 2012 show). big_smile

Watched the first episode, will watch the second tonight but as far as a first episode, the drama is good but it's not what would call a very satisfying show.

But I'm only at the first one so...

Finished the first 8 and it's a very very nice twist on the genre. I'm used to the french making one hour shows that suffice to themselves and my previous post was made with that assumption.

But after 8 episodes, it was a nice ride. Slow, sometimes very slow but a very nice ride.

I wouldn't wait for an american remake either. Unless it's on some kind of premium network, it'll probably be totally dumbed down and people will all be pretty with ultra-white teeth and barely a flaw. As far as possible from real life people are as usual.

I'm bugged by something though... (and apparently, I'm not the only one).

The Horde doesn't call the brother as being one of them...

It might be answered in season 2 I guess.

I like how they hired a lot of similar looking actors for the remake, but it looks pretty meh. And it lacks the cool atmospheric soundtrack from the original (at least in the trailer).

saw the emmy award winning part and then I just had to shut it down and slap myself hard for watching...

So yeah, they copy-pasted all of the scenes from the original. The soundtrack is way worse and small American town is not as nearly as beautiful as small French town from the original. Not gonna watch it, instead I'm waiting for season 2 of the French series.
