Topic: 50th Anniversary Special

ow do you celebrate a franchise's 50th anniversary? With a TV movie of course. "Doctor Who" will be celebrated with "An Adventure in Space and Time," a TV movie that explores the genesis of "Doctor Who" from its first broadcast on Nov. 23, 1963.

The 90-minute drama will explore all aspects of the science fiction series, including the many personalities who came together to bring the show to life. Mark Gatiss will write "An Adventure In Space and Time" with executive producers Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner.

"This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original," Gatiss said in a statement. "And how an actor -- William Hartnell -- stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children. I've wanted to tell this story for more years than I can remember! To make it happen for 'Doctor Who's' 50th birthday is quite simply a dream come true."

Casting and scheduling have yet to be announced by BBC Two.

“The story of 'Doctor Who' is the story of television -- so it's fitting in the anniversary year that we make our most important journey back in time to see how the TARDIS was launched," Moffat added.

Re: 50th Anniversary Special

Its always sad when actors so obviously don't care about the character they used to play, especially such a well known, classic character like the doctor...even more so when neither has really done anything to write home about since.

I kind of got the feeling that Eccleston was just acting so that we wouldn't know that he will be in the 50th anniversary. That might just be wishful thinking, though...

I really hope you are right, I really liked both of them as the Dr and it pains me to think of them as ungrateful to the opportunity they had with the show.

Hasnt Eccelston always been a douche?

David Tennant seem to be acting though. I guess since he seem to fool mostly everyone that shows he is a great actor. His eyes and his voice makes me think he is just protecting the secret and is making things up to throw people of the scent.

Re: 50th Anniversary Special

i thought that part when he says "look my agent is getting all twitchy" meant that agent is scared that Tennant will say something what he wasn't allowed to say.

That's precisely the same way I read it. Who among us could claim to not be distressed while hearing a confederate dance around such a delicate subject of which both are sworn to secrecy.  One might wonder though, was it the unfortunate twitch that betrayed them, or the person sardonically pointing it out, reveling in the reaction?

Re: 50th Anniversary Special

Personally, I never thought Eccleston really enjoyed playing the Doctor and it showed on screen. Tennant will always be my no. 1 but over the course of his first season I grew to love Smiths incarnation too, you can tell they love playing the Doctor, they both revel in it and that's what the character needs.

Awesome fan vid too, gave me shivers!

Re: 50th Anniversary Special

"TV movie" wtf, at least call it what it will be a 50th anniversary episode, Doctor Who was a British show last time I checked...

Anyway, I'm glad Harkness isn't in it! And I reckon that Tennant might return as the human "Doctor" copy left in the parallel universe with Rose and not The Doctor...!

yikes

Good, I didn't like him anyway.
