Topic: New Site Layout
Guys and Gals, For the last few months I have been working on a new site design for next-episode.net. While santah gets his beta site up and running, we would like your thoughts and comments on the design I have created. The site I have running is using static data taken from sometime in October 2011 from my personal data - please keep this in mind when viewing the pages. Most links do not work (show names, etc), but button links do. Have a play and click everywhere. This is a radical change, so please try to get used to it, before hate-bashing it Thanks. Re: New Site Layout
Oh wow. Very nice. One thing.. The recent posts part. Could it be higher? I hate scrolling and on the iPad it is a bit too low. On the other hand, I don't know a lot about design. That's why I handle the coding bit at work and leave the layout design to those who can do it.

I'm 100% behind this man. Of course some small things would probably be changed, but overall, aesthetically, it's fantastic.

Re: New Site Layout
Well, I'll tell you this. Although not being a designer but working and managing a lot of websites, I believe I have a decent taste and understanding of what looks good and what doesn't and how practical some design are against others. So every times someone says "I'm working on a new design", it scares the shit out of me because 90% of the times, it's completely moronic. (And I have to spend days and weeks to fix the stupidity of "designers"). BUT in this case, I'm impressed. It looks really great. Even more, quite awesome. Doesn't hurt the eye and the brain thinking we'll lose what we have now. If the widget on the right can remember their position (collapsed or not), I'll be a happy camper and you could put it up right now.

Re: New Site Layout
I agree...it looks great...except there's way too much blue. I'd like the background of the main section to be white. Other than that, it's great...the new navigation features & tabs are really cool... -Rob

Re: New Site Layout
Looks like a winner to me. Very easy on the eye and I think that the blue background really works.

When do you expect to move it to the production site ?

Re: New Site Layout
Thank you for the overwhelming support guys. It will go into beta once Santah gets the beta site working. After that it's all up to him. It's his site. To reply to Robcore, I did try it white, but it was too bright. The blue is much better. I can work with different shades and tweak the colours a bit. Thanks again.

Re: New Site Layout
I checked the white by editing a screen cap in photoshop, and I totally loved it...but I prefer really bright, crisp looks...moreso than others... Another thing that I think might make it better is the fade from black to blue below the header...it's too black in the new design. On the current main page, it fades similarly from the sides, except the contrast isn't so intense...from a dark blue to the regular blue...something like that may work better. In any case, these are all small tweaks...it's a well done design for sure... -Rob

Because I am too nice, you have your white background. Select the White or Blue link at the top right of the page (just above the logo) The ONLY changes this does is to change the background to white, and change the two images that make the fade at the top and bottom of the page. No other changes. I imagine the section backgrounds would need to be made darker at a later stage.

Re: New Site Layout
BTW guys, as you can see the TV logo shadow is not right. If any of you can change it, that would be great. The image (http://s255443338.websitehome.co.uk/ne/ … -right.png) needs to have the shadow removed, and if possible replaced with a darkness transparency layer (or whatever you call it).

Re: New Site Layout
i like it a lot. my 2 thoughts i noticed that could be different if other people agree in the bottom active shows on break should be smaller or removable and there should be an indicator that those posts in the bottom are from forum.

How about a third tab, in the middle of the existing ones, called "Active On A Break" or such like, and move all the shows to that tab.? Would that work for you.?
GodZionu wrote:and there should be an indicator that those posts in the bottom are from forum.
Really.? I thought it was obvious? What does anyone else think.?

Re: New Site Layout
well... about the forum-posts... It is fairly obvious, but a little hint to Newbies would help i think. I also like the idea with the 3rd tab called "on break"... Love it, but will need some work by santah i assume implementing a new "status" other than "active" and "inactive" like it is right now... The Blue Background - and that's just my opinion, could be a lighter shade of blue, not much, just a little... Else I think the new design ROCKS. Nice job, wizard

Can't say I really mind. I wasn't looking a lot at the old one because there were only 10 or so and that number wasn't really representative of what I had on my "New Posts" link. It's true that because they are so far at the bottom and even though I really like the color scheme, I wouldn't necessarily scroll down there and at first glance, they look more like footer links or sponsors, something like that and doesn't catch the eye as last forum posts until you look at them closely. More detached from the main stuff than from the footer. Practically, a tab on the "Latest News" block to switch the content to "Last forum posts" might be an idea I would try. Since the latest news comes from the forum in part (or completly) and is an "Activity", something that changes a lot, it would make it more obvious to click it. BUT... don't take my word for it. Like I said, I go to the forum to see new posts.

This is a good idea actually, I'll have a play. The current poll is currently 'swapping' with the news, so i'll look into options.

Re: New Site Layout
I for one very rarely go to to the forum front page as I generally keep checking the front page throughtout the day and read the forum posts as they come. I'd love to see new posts as prominently displayed on the front page and behind as few clicks/scrolls as possible.
