So, Between The Wire, Friday Night Lights and Justified I chose to watch The Wire first.
Mostly because I absolutely loved The Shield and died to compare them myself. After this I'll be able to answer the question about which one is better, Wire or Shield big_smile.

So I watched the pilot tonight. At this point I can say I enjoyed The Shield pilot more than this one.

Next I'll be comparing the first seasons of both show smile

I still have the last 6 episodes of the last season of The Wire to watch.

The Wire definitely takes a few episodes to get into it

Ok, so I finished the first season and watched 1 episode of the second.
Great story, interesting characters and all. Really liked it.
Wait , there's a BUT!
But it didn't make me jump out of the bed like The Shield did smile

So I don't know if that's the nonsense you're talking about Santah but so far The Shield is still better than The Wire!

It sounds like you are firmly in The Shield camp and that's probably not going to change with season two. My advice would be to watch The Wire without comparing it to The Shield, at least until you have finished. I realize they are both unorthodox cop-centric series, but they are not the same! If you watch The Wire wanting to see The Shield,  you will be disappointed and vice verse.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very good series and I'll watch all 60 episodes fairly quickly and probably afterwards I'll watch Homicide: Life on the Street too because I like this genre but for me The Shield was more engaging.
And I'm not watching The Wire wanting to see The Shield. I'm just watching The Wire because it's a great series and it's a shame it isn't on my watchlist yet smile

I thought it'll take you only a season. Apparently you're more in love with the shield than I thought.

It'll take some more time, but at the end The Wire will prevail. It ALWAYS does.

Yea, I was about to dig up that and the poll, which I started to show how greater The Shield was smile

That leaves ~388 people.
138 went with The Shield (screw the other one)
98 went with The Wire (screw the other one)
94 went with The Wire (watched both)
55 went with The Shield (watched both)

Still after seeing one season of The Wire and seven seasons of The Shield, I would've voted with The Shield (screw the other one) or with The Shield (watched both)  big_smile

No, it is an introduction. Each season deals with a specific issue while overlaying various social and political aspects within the city. IMO, the second season is the worst and the fourth the best, but it is all subjective.

It's also a decent look into how real police work is done unlike all the other cop shows on TV. Which ever season was to do with Newspapers seems to be the way the country as gone.
