Touch

The ratio is always the same. 1 to 1.618 over and over and over again. The patterns are hidden in plain sight. Just have to know where to look. Things most people see as chaos actually follow subtle laws of behavior. Galaxies, plants, seashells. The patterns never lie. But only some of us can see how the pieces fit together. 7,080,360,000 of us live on this tiny planet. This is the story of some of those people. There's an ancient Chinese myth about the Red Thread of Fate. It says the gods have tied a red thread around every one of our ankles and attached it to all the people whose lives we're destined to touch. This thread may stretch or tangle, but it'll never break. It's all predetermined by mathematical probability, and it's my job to keep track of those numbers, to make the connections for those who need to find each other... the ones whose lives need to touch. I was born 4,161 days ago on October 26, 2000. I've been alive for eleven years, four months, 21 days and 14 hours. And in all that time... I've never said a single word.

Martin Bohm (Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland)) is a single father of an authistic child and tries to make ends meet in everyway he can. Yet even then it's hard with a child, who does not allow anyone to touch him, even his dad. Jake is always writing numbers in his notebook, for which one is paying much interest, until the patterns seem to emerge in Martin's everyday life, but even he will not be able to see in what ways we are all connected.

Now, I didn't have much hopes for this (Heroes, besides S01 really had bad reviews) and watched it only because of Kiefer, but the more I watched, the more I liked it. First of all, this is no mystery show, like Alcatraz or whatnot, it's a drama. Kiefer actually pulls it off with a new character and gives us a brief blast to the past with saying "Damn it!" a couple of times. The story itself first looks like a soapy, preachy bladiblada, but it was able in 50 minutes to create a bunch of real characters, even though some appered very briefly, with an ending that really (yes, I will say it) touched me. It was also nice to see Danny Glover and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in regular cast. And although I agree, that some of the 'connections' were a bit far fetched, but it stayed in the lines of probability.

The pilot really exceeded my every expectations and I'm more than eager to watch the rest of the season. smile Yes, the plot resembles Six Degrees, but on a much more bigger scale.

Re: Touch

I liked the concept, maybe a bit too heavy on the drama side though (the daughter on the big screen in Tokyo was a bit too sappy for my tastes). Focus a bit more on the mystery in the future and I will be a happy camper. All in all this maybe the best new network series in a long while (in my case not being a procedural is half way to victory already).

Re: Touch

I was never a fan of the idea for this show right from the start, but I gave it a shot because of Kiefer Sutherland. Not my type of show, but I'm sure there will be plenty of people that'll enjoy it. smile

The daughter on the big screen made my eyes water.... I loved it smile

Good pilot.. I'm interested to see what angle the show will be taking... it can be very good, or not so good at all. We'll see....

I liked... changing my vote from "Maybe" to "Most probably". Added to watchlist.

(Why half the time I post something, only a part gets saved and I have to edit the message. Incredibly annoying...)

Everyone knows that when you have 4 people in a room, you will get atleast 6 different opinions and since this show is called Touch, it will most probably be sued by Apple. smile

I we can't voice our opinions, then what's the point of a forum?

And on an other note... Do you remember that time when I shot you in the head? Fun times big_smile

Re: Touch

I think this show lost me when the operator called the boy right as the bomb was about to go off. I get things being connected, but that was a lot of random connection with perfect timing. I get it's a show I just don't think I could watch it and not be put off by the level of absurdity that I'm sure these connections make.

And yet in terms of absurdity, your signature shows that you follow ... Alcatras, Alias,... yada yada, Fringe, ... yada yada, True Bloods, ... Warehouse 13, Weeds, ... etc.

yada yada = Half the shows in between.

Re: Touch

The shows on my list are because I have seen at least one season of it. Aside from new shows that are being tracked until I decide if I want to watch a full season or not. So what's on my list isn't a good indication as to what I watch regularly.

I stopped watching Weeds because the writing went down hill after the third season and I stopped watching True Blood because it got boring. Alias I barely made it through since it's last season and a half was abysmal. The reason I watch Fringe is because while at times plot devices do reach the absurd. For the most part it follows the shows own logic that it set-up. It's also well written and acted. I watch Warehouse 13 for different reason's than I watch other shows. I know going into that show it's a family campy type show and it doesn't try to be anything more. I have my complaints about the show, but there not for it being absurd since I don't mind there version of being absurd.

The point of stating all that is I go into each show with different expectations based on how the show is set up. Can my logic be flawed and unreasonable to others? Probably. The point is I went into this show not expecting anything and based on how the show presented it's self to me during the course of the fifty minutes I found it wasn't something I would be interested in. My reasoning being that one of the plot devices that shows use that I don't care for is connecting seemingly random things that all pay-off at the last possible second. Had the show left out the entire terrorist plot line I probably would give it another episode to see how it plays out, but seeing how they went that far in trying to connect things to sell the show I have a feeling it would just bug me to continue watching.

One last thing that I should point out is their are other things about the show I didn't care for as well. They were minor things that wouldn't bother me much seeing how it was a pilot. It's just with those minor things and that one big thing it was enough for me not to tune in. I just stated the major thing since that was the driving force of my decision.

Re: Touch

Doh... neutral You didn't like the stretch of the connections and that's fine. My point was simply that for 1 realistic show (and that's a strech to be honest) or not absurd, there are 100 that are not in any shape or form including 100% of your list (and mine obviously) but we still go for it.

Absurdity might not have been the right word either since your main reason was how too much convenient pieces fell in place. For the record, I thought that the kid wouldn't make it (even with the agent calling) and that's what I thought was a bit too much.

Like some, hate some. wink

Re: Touch

Wow, saw the first episode today. Didn't have high hopes for it, but man, the first episode was very entertaining, will defiantly continue to watch this. Is this a mini series or are there a full season with 10+ episodes?

24

Re: Touch

Liked it. Will continue to watch.
Yo, folks? The kid can see the future, the present, the past, he can see the roadmap, didn't you listen? He had it under control, chill.

Re: Touch

I liked it, and going to keep it.

Seeing as the show is called "Touch" there will be a lot of drama, and that's fine by me. It works.
