Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

Twist and Twist you knew it was coming, when he started to insult Red John on the Tv show smile

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

Found the whole episode very predictable.  hmm

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

Predictable...but good to put RJ back at the core of the show rather than on the secret fringes of it...

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

Still 2 episodes behind but catching up tonight...but wouldn't offending him be the purpose to draw him out. Red John's weakness is his hubris so playing on that is the only way to catch him

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

It wasn't Jane who offended him (He knows better) smile Just watch I won't spoil everything.

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

I watched the episode and I was right though Jane purposely lead the conversation so they guy would insult him. Which lead to the two things Jane wanted Red John to kill him and prove he was still alive. Jane couldn't get the guy by his usually means so he used Red John for his dirty work.

The show is starting to have a slightly darker undertone going with Van Pelt and Jane. Jane killed a man with no remorse and got another man killed because he couldn't catch him. Van Pelt is not the saint she used to be anymore and Lisbon is letting more things slide than she used to.

I hope the darker undertone is a byproduct of the writers taking the story in a certain direction with a pay-off rather than sloppy writing that could easily back fire if there not careful.

Also off topic but is the girl in your avatar the dead vampire ghost from The Vampire Diaries?

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

I cant believe The Mentalist is in its 4th season already!! Where the hell did all that time go? I'm guessing it must be a good thing that the show can run for so long and still be as engaging as its first season. How long do you think it will run? Will they go for syndication..10 seasons seems like a very long time for a cop drama.

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

Shows only need 88episodes which is 4seasons for syndication.

Oh! I thought they needed 200 episodes and thats why a lot of shows stop at 10 seasons.....I'm way off...

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

Looks like we were both wrong.

From wikipedia:

"In the U.S. television industry, 100 episodes is the traditional threshold at which point a television series becomes viable for syndication.[1][2][3] 100 episodes are advantageous for stripped syndication because such shows can be sold for higher per-episode pricing;[4] it also allows for 20 weeks of five-day-a-week reruns without repeating an episode."

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

In recent years, the 100-episode milestone has been lowered, to 88; shows within one season of reaching that milestone often offer a lower licensing price to the networks in order to make it to the 88-episode target.

That quote is from the same wikipedia article.

I agree Jane very much lead the killer right into RJ's embrace.

The undertone of Van Pelt and Lisbon are new, but Jane has always had a dark undertone.  Especially when it comes to RJ.  He's even threatened Lisbon to not get in his way when she said that he would never actually kill RJ

As engaging? dont make me laugh. first seasons were exciting and new, now its just jane pulling a trick out of his sleeve every ep. and sometimes even a bad trick. Like the jury for his murder. The so-called undertones i dont think they are going anywhere, maybe jail. But well you could say the real police is as crooked as the story here, but thats just an easy cop-out. i know maybe not a completely balanced reaction but still its downhill from season premiere

Re: 4x07 - Blinking Red Light

Yeah they moved the 100 stranded to 88 since shows would have to go 4 and a half seasons to reach it so with shows on the bubble networks can get them to syndication and not give them a 5th year that they used to have to have.

Storyline wise this season has been a let down after the way last season ended, but I guess I've just gotten used to shows not being able to carry the ball from one season to the next that it hasn't bothered me as much as it used to. This show won't win any awards and doesn't have the best story telling, but it's got just enough spark left in it which is why I'm still watching.

I agree completely and for me that is one of the main reasons why I - unlike apparently everyone else here - don't find this season a let down. True, the third season's finale would have been a perfect ending for the show, but since we have to press on I find that having Jane go down a very dark path - killing one person in cold blood and leading another one to his certain doom - is very rewarding. Both people he got killed were bad people, no doubt, but Jane's are not the actions of a hero or even a good person. The new boss is right, Jane is a psychopath and it's starting to show.
