Topic: 2x02 Bloodletting
muhahahaaa... I wanna see shit hit the fan!!! All those people who stood by this show in the previous episode should really be ashamed. after seeing (well actually fastforwarding) this piece of garbage i will give it one more episode. What the hell is this? post apocalyptic kids/medical show? seriously!!! even i could come up with much better and subtle plot and writing than what i saw. and aside the almost entire episode of stupid kid helping that black dude. OMG!!! are all the americans so weak pansies? you are utterly clumsy - cut yourself - loose a lot of blood - and catch an infection... jesus motherfraking christ. and to top it all. that blonde woman. what is it. 50-60 days after the end of the world and she screams and cries like a 5 year old when she sees a zombie.

Re: 2x02 Bloodletting
I thought it was better than episode 1...and there are a few things that I think they had to undo from season 1 for the sake of the show... ...if they kept the zombies being able to smell really good they'd never have any situations where they could successfully sneak past a herd or anything...and that's more likely to be a staple circumstance where writers can build tension...being able to be physically close to the walkers without being noticed = opportunity for tension. ...if they were to keep with the season 1 rules, they'd basically have done the same thing in this episode to get the medical supplies...covered themselves in zombie guts and walk past the Zs into the trailer, then back out...pretty boring...and the more often they used that technique, the more bored we'd get seeing it. I was sort of disappointed to see Pruitt Taylor Vince in TWD after his awesome character on the Mentalist...JJ LaRoche was like...powerful...just being in the scene gave it tension....on TWD his character seems like someone that's gonna die soon.... ...I don't think this episode was as weak as the previous one...though it definitely had some really stupid stuff...especially Rick wanting to repeatedly abandon his kid...that was just stupid... Some things I want to see: 1. better vehicles! They can get anything they want for free...even really quiet, fuel efficient vehicles...and yet they had that old blue pickup at the farm, and Dale's RV. I'm thinking...an ambulance would be good...something that doesn't need to be repaired every 5 seconds... 2. an objective...somewhere that the group is trying to get to. Now that they've found this group of people, who have fresh squeezed orange juice...they need a reason to leave, and not to just stay and fortify themselves there... 3. More of Glenn...he's like...the most interesting and intelligent character...and he's always in the background. I wonder if that'll be how Shane and the other guy escape...Glenn, on his way to Rick, gets lost and ends up in town...makes noise with the vehicle and gets the zombies to chase him while Shane and hunting guy make their escape(hopefully in an ambulance!). Then, the Zs follow the vehicles back to the house, and then the group has to get on the move again...and they magically find Sophie on their way through the woods or something(imdb has her on for 17 episodes...so she's gonna get found...)...(actually, LaRoche isn't even listed on the imdb page...he'll probably die while Shane escapes...)... ...anywho, we'll see where it goes...I don't get the impression that the writers have much planned out in the way of plot...they're trying to force character moments(like Rick wanting to leave Carl?)...but they obviously suck at writing characters...so they should write more story... -Rob

(Without watching the episode) Well, that's the thing. The show is based on the comic, which has a terrific psychological story with fantastic multi-dimentional and believable characters, but the characters here are nothing compared to the original and things that the show writers think of are bad, like the CDC or the highway scene. So they do have a plan for the story, because they cannot do a show based on a comic without reading it.

Re: 2x02 Bloodletting
Watched it and liked it less than the first episode. I agree with Rob on many parts. Rick trying to leave Carl alone was just plain stupid. I guess what they tried to show that he was in shock and wasn't thinking clearly but it turned out looking really stupid on TV. I as well would like to see more of Glenn, it looks like he is the only one who has any clue how to act in those circumstances. Why on earth had no one else been stacking up on medical supplies in a world of zombies? Am I the only one who would like to see a spin off with Glenn as a loner zombie killing redneck rambo bad ass? "Hello I'm a random lady on horse, I know you by name so you must assume I speak the truth and come with me!" The stupidest and most annoying of them all, Rick's wife. Granted I don't like the actress herself so I might be a bit biased but it looks like she spits out the most stupid dialog in the whole show. So the fat guy from Mentalist and the guy with a nose had an awesome plan of throwing flares to get to the med trailer. Good plan, except how on earth were you planning on getting out? You go into a zombie infested area without an exit plan? Oh wells I'm easy to entertain, just give me more zombie kills the next time and I'm satisfied!

Can you not go check imdb to spoil stuff that hasn't happened yet, please? Even if it's just speculation, telling us that she's on for 17 episodes isn't cool.

This is why I consider the show as a failure. The comic (yes, I will compare it all the time now) isn't about killing zombies, they are just the background. The Walking Dead is a realistic, gripping and brutal story of how a man can change and what he can do in order to survive, how from walking in a park listening to your iPod you kill the closest person on the planet for your own selfish need of survival.

Well that surely sounds iteresting but we ain't getting that either, so I'd rather have my zombie gore than this illogical family drama.

Glenn is the Asian dude that looks like Ash from Pokemon... Daryl is the other character that I like too...and Dale actually has potential as a character...if they'd write him as intelligently insightful rather than...whatever form of insight it is that he seems to have here...paranoid insight? I like Dale as a sort of philosopher character, Glenn is creative, and Daryl is the physically capable one...the 3 of them would make a great dynamic...each having strengths that the others don't. Instead, we focus on Shane, Rick, Rick's wife...three weak characters in a love triangle... -Rob

I guess it says something about the characters when I can't even remember the names correctly (or my name memory, which is known to be bad as well). This week when they were showing the big black dude I couldn't remember his name even if I really tried. I guess it's time to move this as the first show to watch on mondays. I always watch my daily shows in certain order starting from the weakest series and ending to the best. So next monday it will be TWD, Dexter, Homeland.

well if someone says your child have been shot i dont think you will question it much. I still like the show but it was a slow episode. Rick dealing with the crisis feelt a bit wierd, especally when he wanted to leave to find his wife when his kid needs his blood. And I just knew someone would comment here about the zombie comming from behind the three, but if you think about it it cant be that easy to write about a zombie sneaking up on someone, if they always know how to react when they see a zombie it will just be boring and nothing will really happen.

Re: 2x02 Bloodletting
Well, you see, I have a principal when I create, especially in writing: If I can't do something good, I don't do it. I had a great idea for a RPF (Real Person Fiction) in the style of 24, I even wrote a 25 page prologue, which people really liked, yet I couldn't think of a plot spanding 24 chapters, so I put in on hatius, because I wasn't comfortable with doing something I don't consider 'good'. The two problems I have with the zombie: He appeared from behind a tree, which indicates he was there for a while, because other people passed that way not a few second ago. That contradicts with the basic logic of zombies, when they hear/see someone, they go in their direction, they don't wait, they don't lurk, they just go, because they are deprived of any human form of thinking. They are dumb as a bag of nails and slow because of muscle rigor, with single units they can be avoided and you would need to be a 80 year old senior to get caught with a single zombie. And that's actually the second problem with that scene. My overall dissapointment with the show is... is... is... *adjusts the needle on his phonograph* ...that they (producers, crew) do not even try to catch the sad, depressing tone of the comics. It's so bright that I expect fairies to fly in. Yes, they do sometimes have single scenes in which they try to do this, like the scene with the car and the baby's seat, yet 20 seconds doesn't make up for a whole episode. Before you say 'It's summer, how they can do this?', I say: It's perfectly possible. It's 101 of cinematography to use photography and lighting in creating the soul of a scene, you just need to care about it and hire people, who are capable of doing this, because even the night scenes seem dull. Just look at the fantastic opening sequence, even without the music it captures the feeling of loneliness and despair, as is the first episode in most parts, so why can't the rest of the show do it? Fuck, maybe you're right, I look into it too much. I just want it to be a equeal piece of art as the comics are and I'm sad it's not.

Re: 2x02 Bloodletting
Ever interested how the comics books, that everyone is referencing to, are really? Well, by a quick download from this topic: http://forum.next-episode.net/viewtopic … 01#p115501 You can experience one of the most realistic and well written story in the history of anything. Just want to catch up to the point of the show? They got to the farm in #10, you can read through those in one evening. You don't enjoy comic books and/or have a trouble reading them? So you're like me, comics are in the lower pile of my entertainment enjoyment, yet I got through every issue in less then a week, it's so good. Just ask yourself: Do you want to enjoy a good story and fantastic characters? If yes, give the comics a 10-15 issue trial run and then think if it's better than the show and if you want to go on. Rob, this is especially for you, give the comics a try. I know you'll love it. And for you Godzi, even there's so drama, you just might enjoy it (though I might be wrong XD).

Re: 2x02 Bloodletting
And that Orlando is what I'm afraid will happen if I start reading the comics. Currently what I'm comparing it to are the several zombie flicks I've seen and as mediocre as this is as a series, it's still heaps better than most of the zombie flicks I've seen. That particular scene with the zombie coming from behind the scene is what you usually see in b-class zombie flicks. I would like to think it was an homage to cult classics like Zombie Flesh Eaters and such but probably was just bad directing. The tone of the series is a bit too bright to my liking as well. And the problem for me isn't the zombies but the humans they encounter. In the first season they encountered that gang, but they were looking after their own. This season they randomly meet a dude in the forest who accidentally shoots the son and he is more worried about the shot son than the deer he just shot (they are loosing a good meal). It's all too "lets take care of each other" and not enough "my goal is to survive at any cost". Also all this made me wonder about the hunter dude, he shot that deer miles away from their farm but was there on foot. How was he gonna get the deer back to the farm before its all rotten? He had the pic-up but wasn't driving it as they ran all way to the farm. Once again this was logic thrown out of the window just so we could get the scene of them running in the field towards the farm (more dramatic than driving I guess).

Re: 2x02 Bloodletting
Nice with the long post synchro. But mclame, reading The Walking Dead is one of the best experiences you'll ever encounter and watching the show before the comics (as for now it's only 10 issues) will be harmful for the comics, it's better to get to know the story from the comic books. Trust me.

I agree that the depressing feeling is gone in this season, I thought they did a much better job at that the first season. They should kill off the kid, that would surely get back the depressing feeling, but thats probably never going to happend.

That is the common problem when kids are used as the source of drama, not many shows have the guts to actually kill kids (especially ones that are regular characters) in the shows. This dilutes the effect it's supposed to give. Why would we worry when very likely he will survive?

That would be a kick in the nut, becasue Carl is a well developed character and killing him off would be a VERY stupid decision.

Re: 2x02 Bloodletting
It's funny that the worst thing in this episode were all the scenes involving the undead. I especially laughed during the scenes concerning getting the medical supplies. How is throwing flares supposed to distract ALL zombies for SEVERAL minutes? This wouldn't be so dumb if they didn't have to get inside a trailer with only one entrance/exit.
