Re: Season 3 Finale!

I started watching Mentalist around the 13 or 14 ep of season 1, watching it ever since. As for dropping shows, I dropped Glee around the middle of Season 2 (it went so bad) and I'm really thinking of putting HIMYM on hiatus.

Well with HIMYM it's not a problem . What's 1 short episode per week ? And i know they went too far with the mother but it's not that bad .

Re: Season 3 Finale!

Spoiler

It has to be the real Red John, otherwise Patrick is a murderer, and not just getting revenge...but, where do we go from here? Without Red John...Patrick will probably grow as a person...act out of character...potentially great, but they could certainly mess up the character like they've messed up House if they try to force it. It'd be cool to have Patrick back, and happy...

as for why RJ would be there if Bertram wasn't the mole, it's because O'Loughlin notified him when Grace spilled the beans...

Excellent finale...would have been a great series finale actually...but hey, it gives the show a chance to start fresh...which is good. A lot of shows try to drag things on for too long without providing resolve....and it's incredibly satisfying that they didn't do that here.

Hmmm...  What will happen to Patrick now?  It wasn't self defense, he shot Red John three times point blank.  That makes Patrick a murderer.

Surely he'll go to prison and never work for the CBI again.

But this is TV land, so I imagine he'll get off scott free and be back at work tomorrow!

2020.  Meh.

Re: Season 3 Finale!

They have a thing in the States called "Jury Nullification". The Jury knows he's guilty but still find him not guilty and Red John did have a gun.

Re: Season 3 Finale!

Awesome ep. Just when you thought it was over, more awesome occurred.

Spoiler

Though if the guy turns out to not be RJ, It'll ruin the whole series, turning it into a farce.
They really need some character development, and now they can actually do it.

Yes that happened with Max Keenan on Bones smile so it's possible.

Re: Season 3 Finale!

I agree there is a very small chance that the dead guy may not be RJ.

but the last Question PJ asked before shooting is all he needed to be sure. and after three seasons being demonstrated that PJ know how to read if a someone is telling the truth, and the way RJ described the smell of his wife and daughter...I'm satisfied (and i consider myself quite a bit demanding TV guy).

for me it would be great to sea a series of episodes of PJ trial and combining that with flashbacks of PJ youth and professional history, how he achived to be what he is now. how and why he left the carnival show. the writers left behind those flashbacks and those helped to reveal the character behind PJ.

And I still want to know more about PJ revealed while he soles cases

PS: still unsatisfied about LOST final chapter... just the last half of the episode tough... and can't forgive them... if it wasn't for FRINGE.... sorry ... I had to bring this up (first post)

Re: Season 3 Finale!

I've read many good reviews about the finale, so I've decided to watch season 3. It took me about a week, but it was worth it. Red John's accomplice was kinda obvious, but I'm very glad with how they played out the entire Red John scene at the end. smile And, well, the show should end, especially since Patrick made sure that it was the real Red John.

Re: Season 3 Finale!

That was fucking brilliant! The best five minutes of TV this season and that is saying something since The Good Wife, Justified and Doctor Who have been kicking all sorts of ass this season.

Spoiler

Bradley Whitford as Red John was phenomenal casting, simply great. Too bad we won't enjoy more of him. I think Red John knew about the traps from Grace's necklace - I suspected the FBI since they made it clear he was in the building and him giving her his "mother's" necklace was very suspicious. I believe there was a microphone hidden in it and that's how Red John knew about the rooms, etc. Red John himself said he wanted to say goodbye to Patrick personally, which is why he was there.

As for what Patrick did - I believe he has a good chance at trial for either self-defense (because of Red John's weapon, even though the three shots make it difficult) or jury nullification, if he can prove that guy was Red John. I think that if that wasn't Red John it's a huge cop out and would raise all sorts of uncomfortable questions about Patrick and I don't think the show wants to go there. I also hope the next season doesn't show the trial in more than just one episode (I'd prefer even less than that), because that is boring - especially if they'll have to prove that guy was Red John.

It will be, however, interesting to see where the show goes from here. I agree that Red John was the driving force behind all of it, so it either isn't over (accomplice or apprentice maybe?) or the show has to change radically and I don't know if it'll survive that. But I do applaud the writers for the courage to take that leap.
