Nice display of the Doctors power:) Re: Doctor Who 2005Yes... really great! But why isn't the episode on the stuff-to-watch-list? Re: Doctor Who 2005Re: Doctor Who 2005As always a great episode. Good sensetive touch to rose. I for one still miss her. In the new trailer you can see the next doctors' assistent. I will have to get used to her for a couple of episodes, just as I did with the new doctor David Tennant. Still think Cristopher Eccleston was just a little bit better. 7 2006-12-28 21:25:12 (edited by Salocin 2006-12-28 21:27:16)Re: Doctor Who 2005juleyah wrote:
Actually, it should be labelled 3x00, as it's part of the 3rd season. @Netto “Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind.” – Rincewind
Re: Doctor Who 2005Now after having Tennant for a season, I dont miss Eccleston that much anymore. 9 2006-12-30 15:53:43 (edited by unfettered one 2006-12-30 18:50:35)Re: Doctor Who 2005Salocin wrote:
Technically, it's episode 29x00. Russell T. Davis has stated on many occasions, the new show is an extension of the original series. I have been told that even the internal production numbers per episode are following in the lineage of the productions numbers if the old series. Of course I have no way of proving that, so I'll take the word of the person who told me until I know for certain. Anyway, all that is semantics. The show is still killer and at the end of the day, that is really all that matters. It is nice to see there are some Who fans here. Anyway, I just stopped by to bring attention to the newest Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures. As can be guessed, the show will star Elizabeth Sladen reprising here longtime role as Sarah Jane Smith. The show will be geared more towards a younger audience than Doctor Who, but is being written and produced by all the same people who are doing Doctor Who and Torchwood. A one hour pilot episode will air on New Year's Day, with half hour episodes to follow later once the series proper commences. Anyway, I have seen the trailer for the show, and it looks good, so here's keeping fingers crossed that even though it's geared for a younger audience, it winds up being entertaining enough for an older audience. Of course the exact same thing happened with Doctor Who, which was originally developed as a childrens' program, but in short order caught on to a much older audience. And for those of you who miss Billie Piper as much as I do, she can be found staring as Sally Lockhart in The Ruby in the Smoke, which is a classy BBC adaptation of the first Sally Lockheart novel by Phillip Pullman. The other Sally Lockhart quadrilogy are slated to follow - I assume they all will start Billie Piper in the titler role. Also, did anyone catch the Doctor Who Concert for Children in Need? It was held at the Millennium Center in Cardiff and was a pretty good show. Re: Doctor Who 2005Could you give us a link to that spin-off trailer? 11 2006-12-31 15:51:38 (edited by Salocin 2006-12-31 15:52:09)Re: Doctor Who 2005Here you go: The Sarah Jane Adventures Trailer I already requested the show to be added on TV.com so it could be added here, but nothing happened yet. “Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind.” – Rincewind
Re: Doctor Who 2005@unfettered one, I saw the preview too and thought "oh no, not another spinoff." Touchwood was just awful. DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".
http://xkcd.com/488/ Re: Doctor Who 2005I think the problem with Torchwood (besides some questionable production values), is that it is a much slower pace show. I think that after all the excitement of the last two series of Doctor Who, there was a certain expectation from fans that Torchwood would embody this same level of frenetic energy that exudes from Doctor Who. I had not realized that (what was missing from Torchwood) until I saw The Runaway Bride and within the first 10 minutes of the episode, the audience had been dragged into a high speed chase with a TARDIS. The other thing that I noticed missing from Torchwood (until recently) are any episodes with any real emotional impact. As a lifelong Who fan, I have to admit I was surprised as all get out to see so much emo added to the new show, the Doctor has always had an air of aloofness about himself, and to see a Doctor so . . . vulnerable, was shocking at first, but soon enough it grew on you and you knew that in a lot of ways, this was a superior written Doctor than those of the past. But I noted a few months back, that any real emotional impact in the episodes of Torchwood were all but completely missing. The last couple of episodes have gotten better about that. Hopefully their will be improvements as the program progresses. Something else that is missing from Torchwood is that this is not the same Capt. Jack Harkness that we fell in love with on Doctor Who. Yeah, he's played by the same actor, but the Capt. Jack everyone fell in love with was a much more care free character than this new guy. I guess dying and coming back to life can change a person, but it certainly would be nice to see the more effervescent version of Jack make a return - I'd even settle with a hybrid character, not as dull as the new one, but not as fun loving as the old, if that would make things better. Finally, Torchwood does not exhibit the scope that Doctor Who tends to. I knew going into the show that it would focus on Earth and doing business of keeping order in our back yard as it were, but you get the feeling watching the show, that the breadth of the scope of the overall story being told is so very narrow. Every time you see a Torchwood episode of Doctor Who, it is on a scale and a scope that hinted at something major was in the works and there would be far reaching consequences (both good and bad) for the things that people in Torchwood did throughout the course of the show. Not a single bit of that (outside of knowing that Jack has David Tennent's hand in a jar, seems to be the least bit evident. There is also the recent stuff about something dark coming from the other side of death's door, but even that seems a bit out of nowhere and more tacked on to the story than an integral part. I don't really think that Torchwood is a bad show per se, I just think that it is not what people had expected. That and the maybe in deliberately attempting to make the show not Doctor, the produces have lost sight of exactly what made the promise of Torchwood seem so appetizing in the first place. There is still a lot of potential there and with good fortune, Torchwood's producers will be able to see what is missing from the program and make Series 2 much better. 15 2008-01-27 18:12:08 (edited by theConundrumm 2008-01-27 18:13:46)Re: Doctor Who 2005

Tennant makes it all better though... Re: Doctor Who 2005yes, the aliens in london was a cheesy, i thought that also when i watched it, but it gets better. Re: Doctor Who 2005If you don't like the kind of Doctor Who in that perticular episode then drop it. Doctor Who is always that cheesy - sort of. It's a little different then any other sci-fi show I know. 1x09 - The Emty Child (1) They can all be watched in any order (except for the double eps of course) 19 2011-05-01 10:59:04 (edited by Halo2 2011-05-01 11:01:22)Re: Doctor Who 2005nivalis wrote:
I can't remember if I'm honest. Rose is still a companion for Tennant in the next series. There is also a story arc for that whole series, so I'd stick with it. But if you decide not to, definitely watch episodes 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, then you're on to season 2, from here on the episodes are great, though I was never massive keen on his next companion (season 3), it doesn't detract from the episodes though. Re: Doctor Who 2005Yeah, the first season of the new doctor who isn't the best - although I do know people who love Eccelston as the doctor. It takes all types. Personally I think it's best to watch all the eps the first time you go through the series - even the kinda crap ones. While you might not miss specific plot points by skipping a few eps, you do miss the relationship building between the doctor and his companions, which I think is essential to understanding certain motivations. But be prepared for the cheesiness to continue - Doctor Who is known for its cheese. Re: Doctor Who 2005most reference problems is because it's a really old show i would suggest reading in wikipedia about old Doctors like i did.. or you can watch every available episodes of the previous Doctors. Re: Doctor Who 2005It took me awhile to get into the show but it really does pay off the longer you watch the show. The first season imo was the worst, and not because of who was the Doctor. The first half of season one was almost to much cheese for me but I stuck with it and it gets better with time. Having re-watched the show and still re-watching (Up to Waters of Mars) I noticed that the show compared to now is really kind of different. The show to me is less cheesey and the companions are less annoying (well season 3 and 5-6). I liked Rose but her family drew me insane while I was re-watching. Also the writing as improved but that might be more Moffat then RTD doing more scripits. There truly are some of the best episodes of television with Doctor Who, episode that are just completely brilliant, but there are those that are kind of bad...so it's worth watching all of it just because the episodes that are amazing make up for the ones that kind of blow. Re: Doctor Who 2005nivalis, I wouldn't skip any episodes. Yes, the cheese of season 1 was unsurpassed and it was pretty bad, but it gets better, the cheese - while still there - gets a lot less. The farting aliens return once more in season 2, I think, and there will be some bad episodes along the way (Love and Monsters comes to mind), but overall the show gets the cheese under control. Also BlackBox's list of episodes is missing some of the best episodes ever, so I would definitely not limit myself to only those. And since you liked The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances you will probably love all of Steven Moffat's episodes that are to come and then enjoy - like we do - seasons 5 and 6, when he became the show runner, immensely. Just stick with it, it gets better. Trust us Posts: 1 to 25 of 61Forums - Next Episode → Doctor Who → Doctor Who 2005 |
