Re: 6x01 - The Impossible Astronaut (1)
Okay, first of all, that is a very very cruel joke tv.com (or wherever next-episode.net gets its air times from) played on us. I was so excited that I get to enjoy the next episode tomorrow too! As for the episode, it was yet again, simply brilliant. I loved every moment of it and it seems that Moffat is going all out and trying to make last season's finale seem straight forward and linear in comparison. ▼Spoiler I like Moffat's use of time travel, especially when the Doctor tampers with his own timeline. It makes for an interesting story and a believable motivation for why the younger Doctor cannot know what they witnessed. I am not afraid that the Doctor's death is going to stick, because future Doctor's invitation for everyone to witness it means he wants them to prevent it or alter it. Still, it makes for a great opening. I think it's funny that last season's universe untangling (a global event of massive proportions) is less of a threat than the Doctor's real death (a private event of minuscule proportions). The Doctor could be "remembered" back into existence by Amy, but his real death cannot be undone by her. (I also find it interesting that yet again Amy's memory is playing a big role - I wonder if The Silent have something to do with last season's events?) Finally, I didn't think it possible that Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead's final moments could become even more emotionally charged, but here we are. River's admission that she fears the moment when the Doctor won't recognize her more than her death gives the whole two-parter a new, even more tragic, undertone ... Needless to say, I can't wait for next week's episode. This is how I like my time travel stories!

Ha, I love it! Father and Son playing the same guy old and young. Man, I've missed this show.

Re: 6x01 - The Impossible Astronaut (1)
The episode was crazy, odd, strange, weird, confusing, and wonderful. The true death of the doctor 200years in his future but present for us had me searching for the reasoning behind it, and the reveal of the present day doctor in the restaurant was done perfectly. I'm confused and worried about how there going to pull off saving The Doctor's life without causing a paradox, although Moffat did say this season would deal with how paradox work or something to that nature. I'm just still reeling from the episode and how great it was and the fact I wish the season was over so I could just watch it all in one night...this is going to be one long year waiting on the episodes.

What really gets me ridiculously excited is the thought that one day, they're going to finish with River Song's story, and then we're going to be able to go back and watch all her episodes again, but in *her* order. I can't wait for that (though I hope they don't get there too soon!)

I'm surprised no one noticed that the room River found was the same one from last season's episode, The Lodger...

Hmm, interesting. Do we think it's just budget cuts or does it have a significance to the story? I very much enjoyed The Lodger, but I know it's commonly one of the most disliked episodes from last season ...

Really? I loved that episode! And they are bringing James Cordon back this season, so my money is on it having some significance.

Ask you genuinely asking that question? marco1475 wrote:I very much enjoyed The Lodger, but I know it's commonly one of the most disliked episodes from last season ...
Well I don't know where you getting your facts, indeed it was the least watched episode of the season, but only because an England World Cup match was on at the same time. Most reviews I read rated the episode highly, but with the common complaint of the origin of the machine not being explained...

Yes, because I've read that the BBC's budget was under fire politically in the recent "we gotta cut all spending"-campaign in the UK and I've also heard that many other BBC-produced TV shows had to suffer cutbacks partly to allow for this season of Doctor Who. With a climate like that I cannot be sure that it was in fact Moffat starting to weave his elaborate net and not some pencil pusher up high saying the episode was over-budget and "why not re-use the same set that we have here from last season?" Yes, reviews ranked it highly - as did I, I very much enjoyed it because of its limited scope. (I'm a huge fan of writers limiting themselves in scope, a la Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None.") But from what I've read around the internet - mostly disjointed ramblings of negativity - people disliked the "stunt casting" of James Cordon. It was mostly people who disliked James Cordon previously also disliked him and the episode.

Re: 6x01 - The Impossible Astronaut (1)
River was very concerned that the time is coming soon when she'll meet the doctor and he won't know who she is, and this will emotionally destroy her or something like that. She said they seem to be travelling in reverse time with one another. Didn't this *first encounter* (from The Doctor's perspective) already happen in Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead?

Yes the Doctor's first time meeting her, was her last time meeting the doctor
