Topic: 2x17 - Common Descent
Proving once again that there are no new stories out there, this week's episode of Stargate Universe was brought to you by Season 5, episode 22 of Deep Space Nine - Children of Time. And hell, lets face it, they probably got it from somewhere else as well.

I must admit I thought that the drones were created by the 2 warring alien races, ie the two races on Novus...

Re: 2x17 - Common Descent
I thought the exact same thing Halo2! ▼Spoiler Also, did anyone notice the subtle Lantean design to some of the buildings in the Novus city? I thought this episode seemed familiar, now I want to re-watch DS9...

Stop beating the dead horse - it's already cancelled so enjoy whatever the show gives you Soon there is no Star Trek and no Stargate anymore on TV (And we'll see about BSG: B&C how long that will last)

Never seen Deep Space 9 so for me, it's a brand new story. I have to say that I was quite pleased by this episode. I love time travel plots so it was good for me.

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

I think it's very interesting how sci-fi changed over the years. The 90s were what I call hard-core sci-fi years, with your typical sci-fi staples, the "space operas" like DS9, Babylon 5, Farscape, etc. But those years passed, the show couldn't capture a wide audience and so they started morphing into BSG and Heroes, Lost, FlashForward, etc. The pure sci-fi shows became either sci-fi infused with loads of realistic drama (BSG) or dramas with sci-fi elements (Lost, FlashForward) and became popular without most of the audience realizing they are watching sci-fi. Now with Stargate dying as well, I fear that we've seen the last of space operas for a while. Star Trek isn't coming back, because it is too busy and too profitable emulating Star Wars on the big screen, nothing sci-fi will produce with the BSG brand will come anywhere close to the remake, and no studio is going greenlight a space adventure, because they know they cannot sell it. All we can hope for is another Lost-like drama that incorporates enough sci-fi to tide us over ...
