Hi Mum, this is my new girlfriend. I know you can't see her but that's because she's dead.  Don't worry though I'm working on that.  big_smile

Very good ep, well done SYFI. We have a series that finally seems to be finding it's feet with characters more rounded that you actually care about but it's already sacked.  Gah!

Has failed his lurker exam and posted

Re: 2x14 - Hope

Hate it when shows get their best right before the end sad

Having TSCC flashbacks now.

Re: 2x14 - Hope

I really enjoyed this episode also. Hate though that it's been cancelled. Should have been given more of a chance. At this point it's only getting better and better.

Re: 2x14 - Hope

It was an enjoyable episode, but it was again way too sci-fantasy for my tastes. Not only do we get a kidney transplant with no problems done by a medic with no team, no sterile environment, but the ship miraculously decides to help out by creating a projection of one of the consciousnesses downloaded into it? Uhm, yeah, we're back to baby-saving aliens hmm

Nah - I think he had a point and Greer didn't look so good after the Operation. I hope that infection doesn't kill him.
On the other hand who cares who dies - the show is doomed anyway. Only 6 episodes to go tongue

1. We don't know that the transplant went without problems, yet. Greer may have a serious infection, and Volker's body may reject the kidney.
2. As GodZi said, we don't know of the environment is sterile or not either.
3. Do we know that the ship is controlling the projections? Can't remember anyone mentioning it.

Not just the Spanish maine my love. The entire ocean. The entire world!

Hum... Am I the only one who think that this episode sucked? For me, it may be the shitiest SG episode ever. And boring. Man, I was so bored!

At least this one seems clear. If a projection is running a program in the ship is starting. It would be interesting though if it can be started manually. And if a personality is a program in some memory banks it can be changed/tweaked. I wouldn't mind seeing the gilz in different outfits big_smile

Did you forget all of season one?

This episode may not have been the best of them all, but it surely was better than maybe 50-75% of the episodes of season one. Just the removal of the "talking-to-the-kino-reality-tv"-segment has by itself made all of season two approximately 4.3*10^13 times better (as in more interesting, less boring) than season one.

Season one episode 9:
Some of the crew use the Ancient Long Range Communications Device to reassure their loved ones that they are okay.

Season one episode 10:
When one of the crew becomes the prime suspect in a crime, the others must determine the individual's guilt.

Season one episode 14:
While experimenting with the ship's computer, Rush flashes back to a time of personal tragedy.

Those were just some of the episodes i remember were soo unfathomably boring that i could not even watch them to the end, also most of the other episodes was also stuffed with the same kind of boring-ness even if the synopsis often sounded more promising.

The transplant operation went without problems - whether the transplant takes is a different question. I think under similar "realistic" circumstances anyone attempting to open someone and remove one of their organs would end up killing both patients right there on the table. They would not wake up.

Vana wrote:

True, but the ship looks very old and decrepit, there was lots of dirt and dust when they first arrived etc. While I can conceive of "magic alien technology" that keeps the infirmary sterile, just the plain fact that everything but the infirmary has doors makes any technology like not viable. Because then it would have to keep the whole ship sterile, including the Stargate room (again, no doors there either, or they are being kept open all the time), where people come in and out of different planets carrying all kinds of pathogens with them.

(But then again, I never watched SG-1 regularly and maybe they explained there that traveling through a Stargate spits you out completely sterile and free of any pathogens, because SG-1 didn't have a quarantine room for the away team either.)

Vana wrote:

Yes, when it wants to communicate more directly with the crew it spawns projections. Just like it can tap into dreams, etc. I am fine with believing in very advanced technology (and as Arthur C. Clarke said "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."), but its applications and particularly the timing of the applications must be logical and consistent. Otherwise we are really talking about the ship as a benevolent entity guiding them and helping or not helping the crew based on a whim, i.e. a deity.

Also, wtf! This episode was like.... well.... funny! Erectile dysfunction space odyssey and Dragonstea... I don't think that I have laughed like that to any other SGU episode big_smile Love it!
