do you expect something else from this "great nation"?

I wouldn't call it great, but it's at least good and thanks to it we have about 90% shows from our watchlists. wink And they're not all stupid, because if they were then lots of more ambitious, non-reality programs would have no audience.

Edit: One question about the Friday's results... does anyone remember the usual air time of CSI: NY? Isn't it 9pm instead of 10pm? I'm asking to find out whether I remembered wrong and SN will be Fringe's only competition or was it only this week when CBS wanted to promote Super Bowl.

It's the problem with our system here in America for doing ratings on tv shows. We're using a 80's technology in the year 2011, so shows with loyal and rabid fan bases means nothing unless your a 'Nelsons' family show. The nelsons family's are the only ones who count when it comes to the viewing numbers of shows and they only use their DVR numbers as well. You'd think we would have found a better way by now, but alas it's the broken system that shows live or die by.

Re: TV Shows Ratings

Only 2.4, 9.40 million for Chigaco Code premiere. This is probably going to be a quick cancellation. I wonder why FOX didn't promote this new show after the Super Bowl instead of going with Glee which already has a big and faithful audience.

Re: TV Shows Ratings

Monday Primetime Ratings:
CBS won the night with adults 18-49 and total viewers. Fox was close behind, but that was thanks to a House that was up 16% vs. its last original to a 4.3 adults 18-49 rating and 12.32 million viewers.  While the premiere of The Chicago Code retained a fair bit of House’s total viewers (9.4 million), it dropped to a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating.  That has to be disappointing for Fox considering the Super Bowl the night before set an all-time viewing record.  The half hour detail for The Chicago Code was a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating the first half hour and a 2.3 the second.

Chuck stayed down at the 1.7 adults 18-49 rating level, tied with its series low and against new competition on ABC and CBS, Harry’s Law dropped 19% to a series low 1.7 adults 18-49 rating. The Cape dropped 13% to a 1.3 rating.

In the 10pm showdown Hawaii Five-0 with a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating bested Castle’s 2.5 rating. Castle was up 4% vs. its last original.

CBS’s entire lineup was down vs the last originals on 1/17, but the declines were all small and in the 3%-5% range.  Though Hawaii Five-0 won the 10pm hour, it tied a series low with adults 18-49.

CW’s 90210 was up 7% in the target women 18-34 demographic to a 1.5 rating.  Gossip Girl gained 6% with women 18-34 to a 1.8 rating.

Gold Rush: Alaska topped Friday night cable with a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating, same as last week. But Wizards of Waverly Place scored nearly 300,000 more viewers (3.95 million vs. 3.66 million).

Merlin dropped down to a 0.3 adults 18-49 rating (vs. a 0.4 on 1/21, it’s last original episode).    Spartacus: Gods of the Arena averaged  1.264 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in adults 18-49, up 0.1 from last week.

What's obvious is that TV stations want to have shows with good ratings. No one does this out of charity. Big ratings = big money. I'm only disappointed that FOX doesn't seek chances and promote new shows well enough, so that they could grow an audience and keep it.

Re: TV Shows Ratings

Fox does seek and give chances to shows/movies with new or strange ideas. Let's not forget star wars, (samurai in space) when no other studio would at that time or firefly a western in space (what is that?)

But they DO suck with promoting shows and often mess up a show by changing their broadcasting order or time/date shedule, stuff like that.

I like Fox that they give even strange sounding shows/ideas a chance but i dont like that they are on the other hand very strict when it comes to ratings and that they don't give a struggling show some time to find it's audience.

Re: TV Shows Ratings

Tuesday Primetime Ratings:
Fox won the night with adults 18-49, barely edging out CBS. Following its post Super Bowl outing on Sunday, Glee was up  only 2 percent versus its last Tuesday original on December 7 to a 4.5 rating in adults 18-49.   Raising Hope was steady versus its last original with a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating.  The light is red for  Traffic Light, which premiered to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating, though Fox can at least boast that 1.9 is 19% higher than the average for the now canceled Running Wilde.

Against originals on Fox, CBS’s NCIS had a 4.2 adults 18-49 rating, down 9% from last week, but once again cleared 20 million total viewers.  NCIS: LA was down 8% to a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating and The Good Wife was steady with a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating.

NBC’s The Biggest Loser: Couples was down 11% to a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating and Parenthood dropped 14% to a 1.9 rating.

No Ordinary Family tied a series low with a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. Both V (1.8 adults 18-49 rating) and Detroit 1-8-7 (1.3)  inched up from last week, but that’s nothing to shout about.

With Glee back and no special wedding episode, One Tree Hill fell dramatically, dropping more than 40% from last week’s 1.2 adults 18-49 rating to a 0.7. Hellcats was also down a tenth with adults 18-49.  In CW’s target women 18-34 demographic, One Tree Hill scored a 1.3 rating (down from last week’s 2.4) and Hellcats drew a 1.2 rating down from last week’s 1.3.

http://i.imgur.com/uJX0p.jpg

Sunday Cable Ratings:
With most of the cable world taking Sunday night off from a new night of programming, ESPN’s post-game Super Bowl coverage led cable with a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating.

Outside of ESPN, the Super Bowl wasn’t particularly friendly to HBO and Showtime, who braved the chilly waters.

Big Love shed nearly a quarter of its viewers from last week, but through the magic of rounding, maintained last week’s 0.4 adults 18-49 rating. Californication shed more than a third of its viewers and dropped 0.1 with adults 18-49 to a 0.2 adults 18-49 rating. Episodes was in the same boat .

All things considered, Shameless did a good job relatively, but couldn’t quite make it to a million viewers. It was down from last week’s 1.11 million viewers and 0.6 adults 18-49 rating to 953,000 viewers and a 0.4 rating in adults 18-49.

Against a full slate of originals on the broadcast networks, Pawn Stars didn’t keep pace with last week’s 2.8 and 3.0 adults 18-49 ratings for its respective episodes, but last night’s 2.5 and 2.7 were nothing to sneeze at and plenty enough to lead the cable night.

History’s American Pickers was also down from last week’s high of a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating, dropping to a might respectable for cable 1.6.  I already posted about Discovery’s American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior, but it too garnered a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating, setting highs in its season finale.

Pretty Little Liars 1.1 adults 18-49 rating was down 0.1 from last week, but was again easily ahead of 90210 on the CW (and bettered Gossip Girl too, even though those shows do not go head-to-head) coming out easily ahead in all of the key demos and total viewers.

MTV’s Skins kept falling, down another tenth to a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating.

After falling sharply the previous week (from a 0.9 to a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating) Being Human inched up to a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating.

Yeah I'm also sad, but almost everything was down, so let's not be that pessimistic.

On CBS, The Big Bang Theory’s 3.9 adults 18-49 rating was down 9% from last week, while $#*! My Dad Says tieing a series low 2.7 rating, 4% lower than last week. At 9pm CSI scored a series low 2.8 rating, 7% lower than last week, and The Mentalist’s 2.9 rating was even with last week.

ABC’s Wipeout 2.2 rating was down 12% vs. last week, a season low. Grey’s Anatomy drew a season low 3.9 rating down 9% vs. last Thursday. Private Practice’s 2.7 adults 18-49 rating  was up 8% vs. last week.

On NBC,  Community’s 1.8 adults 18-49 rating was down 10% vs. last week, while Perfect Couples 1.5 rating rose 7% from last week (retentionista’s take note!). The Office’s 3.6 rating slipped 3% vs. last week, and Park’s and Recreation drew a 2.6 rating was 8% higher than last week. At 10 pm, 30 Rock’s 2.3 adults 18-49 rating was 4% lower than last week. Outsourced was 6% lower than last week to a 1.7 rating.

On the CW, The Vampire Diaries 1.2 adults 18-49 rating was a series low down 20% vs. last week, and its 2.0 women 18-34 rating fell 17% vs. last week. Nikita’s 0.7 adults 18-49 rating was 22% lower than last week to a series low, however its women 18-34 ratings were even with last week’s 1.0.

Yeah, it's a shame to see such low numbers for Community, but hopefully the show will bounce back after AI is over.

I wonder if this is the last season for CSI: LV, especially since it's probably the most expensive to produce out of all three.

Last Night Ratings

Fringe dipped to a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating in its fourth Friday episode down 12.5% from last Friday. Our polled readers turned out to have been wildly optimistic. At 8pm, Kitchen Nightmares drew a 1.5 rating, 12% below last Friday.

The CW’s Smallville’s 0.9 adults 18-49 rating was down 10% from last week, and Supernatural’s 0.9 adults 18-49 rating was also down 10% from last week.

Burning off its episodes prior to cancellation, The Defenders drew a new series low 1.1 adults 18-49 rating, down 15% from last week. Back at 9pm, CSI:NY’s 1.5 rating tumbled 20% vs. last week’s 10pm episode, tieing a season (series?) low.

The second week of NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? thought up a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating, up 8% from last Friday. Following it, a two hour Dateline: NBC drew a 1.4 rating, down 26% from last Friday.

ABC’s Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown special garnered a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating. Following it at 9pm, a two hour 20/20 had a 1.6 rating.

Fox, NBC and ABC tied for the adults 18-49 ratings on the night.

Nope, haven't seen a single episode so thanks for ruining my day. wink

As for Friday's ratings, Fringe dropped a lot more than I thought and it really looks like there won't be a next season. On the other hand it wasn't a good night for TV... SV and SN also scored low ratings.
