Not yet.  Maybe at the weekend.  I love the original, so this is making me nervous.

Re: Being Human (US)

Haven't seen it yet, but the description seems idiotic (and like it should be on CW or ABC Family wink).

Re: Being Human (US)

I've downloaded it and am unsure whether to watch it tonight or so...  answers on a postcard please.

I thought our one was starting up again this month, but I've heard no news...

That's the second biggest X I've ever seen.

Yeah, I think the third series starts Jan 23rd.

In fact I've just confirmed it:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/beinghuman/2 … _date.html

Yay!  smile

Re: Being Human (US)

Third series UK stars 23rd, yes.

Just watched, is not bad. Cast is fine, I always give a thumbs up to any show with surviving BSG cast, rsrsr.
On the plus side: it is not a word by word adaptation. The vampire's name is Aidan, which in my opinion is a tasty nod to the original cast (wish they'd done that with all characters though). Pekineh is expressive, so Aidan get emotional range.
On the meh side: it lacks subtlety. I blame most of it in the increased budget for special effects, the more you show stuff, the less atmospheric is the setting. This is true for almost everything to do with horror. It is a lot more in your face than the original was when it started, and that, for me, was the best thing. The "puppy behaviour humour" russel Tovey's performance brought to the original is gone completely.
All in all, it seems to have all the makings of a good show, I just wish it would be done a couple years after the original is completely done. It leaves you with that same after taste you get when you watch "City of Angels" having already seen "Wings of Desire/Faraway so close", it is good on its own account, but you feel cheated because the source material is so brilliant.

Re: Being Human (US)

I probably won't watch it having already watched the UK version and not being a huge fan of the Syfy channel and the way they do the airing of their shows. Also Syfy is a cable channel here so their can't be any swearing/nudity. On top of the fact most of their shows are way to family friendly for my taste.

But an American version of the show might not be all that bad since their were times I felt the original had a very UK story telling vibe. By that I mean theirs been a few UK shows I've seen that at times kind of loses me in the way they go about telling the story that's hard to explain but is uniquely different then what I'm used to being from the US. The show Hex being another one that lost me at times the story telling as a weird timing vibe to it, plus somethings are lost in the cultural differences ie. phases and slang being different.

Pretty much that, except that I actually feel it's bad and am hoping it improves.

Re: Being Human (US)

Well I don't know. It has it's good and bad moments.

True, I almost thought of enduring "Material Girl" just to get a peek of her.

Agreed.
The main issue I have is that it lacks the charm of the original.
The ghost (Sally to replace Annie) is still likeable, but is more intrusive than previously. The vampire doesn't have the same feeling of burden. The werewolf is, as you say, less puppy-like, and the master-vampire (Bishop to replace herrick) doesn't have any measure of the affability that gave the original such an interesting character.

On top of that, they've souped up the vampire strength with a true blood style move-so-fast-it-can't-be-seen. I liked the fact that in the UK version, the vampires could be knocked down by hitting them with a chair. Somehow, making them like other peoples vampires cheapens the effect of "Not being human is hard".

But it is still watchable. I'm going to keep at it at least, which is more than I can say for most remakes.

Re: Being Human (US)

Way way  way better attempt than the horrendous version of Shameless (couldnt even finish the first episode). If I have a complaint its Sam Witwer (Smallville - Doomsday) as the vaampire.

Re: Being Human (US)

Well, I've been a really big fan of the original, so I was very hesitant at first. However, the lack of very good shows on my watchlist right now made me give it a try.

Overall, I feel like I'm watching a more simplified / shortened version of the original, plus I really miss the excellent accent of Mitchell and Annie.. I should say, though, that for a few episodes the original one disappointed me a bit, so the remake kept me good company since it reminded me of the amazing UK first season...
