Topic: Alternative to SGU?

Sucks it got cancelled. Do anyone know of any alternative except the obvious dated ones? (Star Trek series, Battlestar Galactica)

I have 0 shows that follow a crew that travel through or operate in space at the moment. Kinda sucks. :f

Re: Alternative to SGU?

Have you seen 'Space Above and Beyond' and 'Defying Gravity'?

Re: Alternative to SGU?

Yeah, seen "Space Above and Beyond", not "Defying Gravity" though. Seems like a pretty bad show though?

8

Re: Alternative to SGU?

Only got through a couple of episodes of defying gravity before i got bored of it myself, is it worth revisiting?

Re: Alternative to SGU?

To be honest I only suggested Defying Gravity because I couldn't think of anything else. smile I've lost interest in DG after seeing three episodes.

All I can think of is Doctor Who... I guess that you're already watching that one? If not, you should really give it a go...

Re: Alternative to SGU?

For the love of god spare yourself the torture that is Defying Gravity

Re: Alternative to SGU?

I'm thinking of watching Jeremiah and Taken. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Then of course, I'm planning to watch every Star Trek series, sometime in the distant future....

Re: Alternative to SGU?

Every episode of Taken is 1:30h long. Just for you to know.

Re: Alternative to SGU?

I think Taken is really good! There are so many stories and so many fascinating characters and actors. And yeah, each episode is 1:30h long.

edit: at least what I remember of it. It is actually nearly ten years old.

Not just the Spanish maine my love. The entire ocean. The entire world!

Re: Alternative to SGU?

Taken is very good. I keep going back to it every other year or so. It has a really nice long story arc that spans a few generations. I'd say it's definitely worth a watch.

Re: Alternative to SGU?

i have the same dilemma. when you look at my watchlist then there aren't many sci-fi show's left i haven't seen.

at some point i even considered rewatching all star trek, but this show is still very fresh for me (viewing wise), so i'm really puzzled what to watch.

there is an alternative to it all for me tongue
i need to get back to work. 13 months now without sad

"Avenge Me."
"Judgment Day is inevitable."

Jeremiah was a very good show imo.

Re: Alternative to SGU?

Taken is a must see for scifi fans, especially if they are also interested in Area 51 stuff. Despite it's almost 10 years old the one big story is told perfectly. Don't expect perfect state of the art CGI tho.

Defying Gravity is a really great show. Unfortunately it got cancelled very fast before the whole storyline was laid out. So make sure you watch all 13 episodes. It gets a kinda proper ending which leaves no giant cliffhangers, although the story could obviously go on for many seasons.

Exactly. My favorite show was/is Star Trek: Voyager. Have seen almost all Star Trek series two times ... except STV that i've seen three times. smile

The thing i liked about SGU was that it sort of reminded me of STV in the sense that they are far, far away and have to tackle things that no one knows anything about... yet. It sucks big time that when it finally began to get that depth it was cancelled ................ QUITE annoying since there really aren't really a lot of actually good space sci-fi series out there.  neutral

And the suggestions people are giving here isn't really the same thing except the ones i've already watched. smile

Re: Alternative to SGU?

Yeah we are lacking some good Scifi'y goodness in the last years. Fringe is very good in some aspects but as soon as a network releases something spacey, it gets cancelled...

Re: Alternative to SGU?

You forgot to mention Andromeda  big_smile

I liked it better then Farscape (it emphasizes more on technology), but it didn't quite measure up to the kings of sci-fi (SG-1, Firefly)

All in all I'd say it was well worth the time I invested in it. You might want to check it out if you haven't already.
