Shameless (US)

http://i.imgur.com/Af4yJOR.jpg

Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be... perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.

To my suprise, it's an hour show, not halfanhour. But still, the best thing I watched today. smile

SPOILER ShowWhat a fucked up family. Lalala.

And William H. Macy, what a guy.

Re: Shameless (US)

my god.
i just finished watching it.
i don't think i have ever seen anything else more fucked up and disturbing.
even Saw movies were nothing that awful.

i know this is kinda what real life is, but hey what is the point of showing this shit?
Emmy Rossum is so supersexy, but i think even she can't save this show for me.
i'll give it a few more episodes try.

Re: Shameless (US)

This is a parody of the original version with only Emmy Rossum coming close to the part and if the show lasts that long she'll be gone in season 2.
Orlando if you thought that was good give yourself a treat and download the original.

First few seasons are very funny, lost it for me in the past couple of seasons and i stoped watching but the first four seasons or so are worth watching smile

Re: Shameless (US)

I don't think I could disagree with GodZionu anymore. I thought it was a very charming and interesting pilot, and this is coming from someone who hates 95% of all the pilots I watch. I think that the cast works and the actors didn't make any of the scenes unwatchable or anything felt strange or weird. The story line may be a little far fetch from how poor some family's are and the father being completely useless and the kids being the adults, but it works for the dynamic of the show I thought.

I think Emmy Rossum made the episode work but I am slightly biases since I'm a fan of her music and she's the only one I knew anything about from the cast.

I think the show can work since I wasn't disappointed in the episode and after watching the first episode I'm looking forward to the next one.

Also I haven't seen the UK version of this show, but I think that might benefit me more since I'm coming into the show blind and not having something else I'm comparing it to.

Re: Shameless (US)

i could only watch the first 10 minutes so far but that is how you grab the attention of ur audience, very nice

Re: Shameless (US)

I agree, I very much enjoyed the first episode. True, it might have a lot to do with my crush on Emmy Rossum, but I'll keep on watching. It was funny, not too schmaltzy in the heartfelt moments, and tackled a very difficult subject (teen homosexuality) with surprising ease. Haven't watched the original, so I can't compare ...

Re: Shameless (US)

So, how's the second episode, is it also an 1:1 with the UK version?

Re: Shameless (US)

Nope not gonna watch it! The first three/four series of the original UK series were fantastic. I just know this will pale in comparison, like every other US remake of successful UK shows

second episode was slightly better than 1st one imo.

Re: Shameless (US)

I don't know to me the second episode wasn't as good as the first episode. The episode felt like it was missing or lacking something that the first episode had.

Re: Shameless (US)

Not for me, William H. Macy and Joan Cusack made my day. smile

Re: Shameless (US)

I agree with Rwings. Second episode felt a little bit like a letdown, mostly because (for me) it was missing the great "budding love" relationship crap with Emmy Rossum's character. That was very well done in the pilot and here it was replaced with your typical, soap-opera-ish "boyfriend fucks up" scheme. I thought the pilot's dinner fight with the reveal of his real job was inspired, but the Canada thing now just felt forced. Luckily the BJ subplot from the pilot was replaced with the gloriously fucked up Joan Cusack subplot, which was just awesome. I'll continue watching ...

Re: Shameless (US)

I think your right about what this episode was lacking with Emmy Rossum and her BF storyline. The Canada storyline I wouldn't say felt exactly forced since it felt like something the character would do since based on the pilot he's trying to help, but I think the execution of it was done kind of poorly exceptionally the ending scene.

It might just be that to me the progression of the relationship in the pilot was executed pretty well and in this episode the drama at the end of the episode felt maybe to soon. With him buying an expensive thing and she freaks out negatively to it had a definite repetitive vibe since it happen in back to back episode.

I still plan to keep watching though

Re: Shameless (US)

Rwings, I couldn't agree more. I thought the Canada thing itself was great, totally in character and I loved his explanation. It also felt like a nice continuation of him wanting to help out. However, the car thing at the end was very predictable - we didn't get the "I'm not a charity case" fight in the pilot because they didn't talk much back then and ever since he got her the washer I was dreading it. It is very overused and too predictable. That's why I was positively surprised when she didn't pull the charity card and just accepted the washer. Alas, it's come back with a vengeance in the second episode sad

The whole "apologize with a van" thing felt out of character for him as well, because a) he should have expected her response would be something like it was, and b) if he stole it (which I presume) then why the F is he giving her a hot car? We'll see, I hope the writers can get back to unorthodox solutions to common problems smile

Re: Shameless (US)

i got still mixed feelings about this show.
i mean it's great to see Emmy Rossum's  boobs once a week, but ...
in a way i like this whackiness and craziness of the show and then again i kinda hate it.
this season will probably be over before i make up my mind tongue

Episode was an improvement over last weeks

Re: Shameless (US)

Yup, the third episode was freakin' phenomenal. Very funny, just the right amount of outrageousness and the ending hit all the right emotional notes with the song and Fiona's decision ... Very well done. Shameless is slowly climbing the ladder of my favorite shows. I hope they have more episodes like this and less like the second episode.

Too bad, I really like it. It is definitely out there, sometimes almost South Park-like, but it still brings (a lot of) the funny. Plus b00bage, a lot of it smile

well i'm always yay for boobies, but some things just go too far in this show. for instance this weird woman who can't exit her house. now there's 2 dude's living there. plus the daughter there. ok it has not been mentioned how old she should be (i know how old she really is) but last episodes nudeness made you wonder. young kid's smoking and drinking, stealing etc.

Yes, she was supposed to be underage - the story was basically Nabokov's Lolita. I think it's interesting that that plus underage drinking and stealing are the things that are "too much" for you. There is plenty of objectionable stuff, but I wouldn't count those among them.

But I digress, different people different tastes. I just don't think those things are what set the show apart - kids drinking, smoking, stealing, and doing drugs is done by any other TV show. And as for the Lolita thing, well, now it's mainstream - just look at MTV's "16 and Pregnant". Sure, it's not about sex with older men, but it sure as hell mainstreams (if not glorifies) underage sex ...
