Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

Who would ever have thought that in The USA there would be a shortage of guns..

On a serious note where would you have a base camp - mine certainly wouldn't be in the middle of an unprotected field..

You don't get it. The reason why they're camping near Atlanta is because they still have hope that military steps in. Sure, you can move to a middle of nowhere, but there's a chance you won't even know that the apocalypse has ended. wink

Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

Once they arrive at a goal for our main characters other than mere survival, then it'll start to become interesting.

agreed. However, just one big goal ain't gonna cut it...because they'll either achieve it and need something "bigger"(=getting progressively more ridiculous like Prison Break) or they'll never get there (=like Ted in HIMYM). If they introduce a series of goals that conflict with each other, and that result in new goals being developed, then it becomes good character drama...

Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

awesome show, but I can see a point where I'll tire of it.

Not a quote from this show(it's from a book by Jim Butcher), but I thought it kinda fitting:

All things pass in time. We are far less significant than we imagine ourselves to be. All that we are, all that we have wrought, is but a shadow, no matter how durable it may seem. One day, when the last man has breathed his last breath, the sun will shine, the mountains will stand, the rain will fall, the streams will whisper—and they will not miss him.

Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

Actually, now that you mention it, a show done exactly like 24 only with zombies instead of terrorists, and with civilians armed with bludgeoning tools, shotguns and walkie talkies instead of CTU...it'd be rather badass...especially if you had a lead that had as much commitment and integrity as Jack Bauer.

That would be awesome - but I don't see that coming for TWD. And especially a character as charismatic as JB hasn't been introduced - yet wink

Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

The problem with 24 in my opinion as a non-US citizen is that the only thing that seems to scare US citizens is terrorist attacks and bombs. It's never that murderers or rapists get back on the streets or the effects of certain political choices on the population. People being harrassed in airports, while they are as popular in the US as the public transportation in some countries; seems to be OK'ed without any real problems (before it actually happened) while entire cities have gone into chaos because the French gouvernment wanted to extend the working age by 2 years. Or the fact that there are a lot of states that allow guns, not that I want to debate that right now, but it would be a more interesting subject than yet again an Arab extremist who is ordered to bomb some building, by an American politician, who is working with the Russians.

A good zombie series is a good change of scenery that survival is more than being afraid of your foreign neighbour, but it's about all those other things that can kill you. Like being a racist in public and get handcuffed on a rooftop with zombies at the only door out. Or being a wife beater when the most important thing you have in the world is your family.

You're not afraid of bombs? (And remember, 80-90% of ppl here are European).

No I'm not. Living in fear isn't for me. I don't fear death, I fear a dull life.

Thankfully, otherwise I'd probably be on the FBI watchlist for having an opinion that doesn't run in parallel to the gouvernment's...

Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

The goal of this series should be to get that damn tank from episode 1 operational and go to town on the zombies!

Plus I would try and hole up in a shopping centre like the dawn of the dead movie. As long as it has a supermarket in it (most have more than 1) and other assorted shops..hardware..guns etc you could build a pretty cool fortress in there. Hell if it has a nursery you could make a damn garden on the roof and grow food as well!!

I think 10-20 people could live for a a hell of a long time on the supplies in any shopping centre.

Just spray paint or board up any glass doors, spend a day or two systematically clearing the centre of any zombies and you are golden.

I thought that too, why don't they just take all the military vehicles and start shooting, because these aren't "The Flood" from Halo, they're just slow moving zombies, and it's not like all the tanks and trucks batteries are dead or beyond comprehension for our main characters to operate.

Holding up in one location traps you though.  If it were a big building, with food, and difficult for the zombies to access or find out about, then, brilliant........but not much of a story.  That storylines probably going on, but our main characters just haven't found them yet.

What about my style then? I would probably shoot myself in the head.

I second that. I would also do it.

Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

Well, most shopping centers I know of don't have very sturdy outer doors. The shops themselves all have metal roll up thingies (forget their name in English). So unless you find something to barricade it with (a truck for instance), it wouldn't be a sure bet. The best buildings are usually the old ones, like the town hall or library. Most of them, in big cities anyways, have mainly 1 large entrance with large sturdy doors and small high-up windows. Also, non-commercial skyscrapers seem to me a very good place to stay. Every home has food and you'll find enough beds to block off the stairs.

Re: 1x04 *Spoilers*

I think a mall base-camp would be pretty badass...I totally wondered why the group wouldn't have just secured a department store in town...I mean, a bunch of gangsters managed to secure an old folks home....
...the good guys opted for a camp that's difficult to guard, only walking distance from a huge town that's full of zombies...

I'd rather be close to zombies and secure in a locked down facility than be a slight distance away from them in an area where they could easily surprise me. I think Glenn should be the hero of the story...
