Hey there and thanks for the suggestion. This is already a thing, where if you Browse shows and sort by Top Rated, it'll give you highest rated shows (with more than 15 ratings). And the 4-5 stars shows are respectively on top.
What do you think, should 15 maybe lowered to 10? Or should ratings be more encouraged in some way?
You could put a "Rate this show/movie" on our watchlists. It would show up under the show title when we add a new entry and just stay there until we give it a rating or maybe click "Decline". If you want to do more than a 5 star rating system, maybe use a drop down or have us type in a number "out of 10". I don't know what you could do if the entry is not on our watchlist.

Interesting! You mean on the dedicated watchlist that's linked on the main page, or on the main page itself? Both could work... Of course it would only show up under shows that already aired, and there would need to be a global option "Don't offer me to rate shows". I'm curious to find out what santah thinks about this.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests
So it'd ask you just from having it on your list? Ehhh. What about asking to rate when you mark the last show of a season watched in the episodes tab? Could ask you after each season so you'd rate things that end up not getting a next season and so you could adjust rating based on more info.

My gut says that many people don't mark episodes/ seasons as watched, but they might be open to rate a show. Asking after each season would be too much IMHO. You might have a point with your "Ehhh" though...

Re: Features/Improvements Requests
Probably true. After I finish a season is when I'm used to rating shows. Having it on the main page would barely affect me since it's rare that I finish something while it's still listed there. My 'ehhh' was due to worry that folks would just throw up a rating to get rid of the prompt and never adjust it. I kinda feel like we've already got enough folks rating based on one episode and never updating as it is. But so long as the indicator @TeaAndApathy mentioned wasn't a pop-up that had to be dismissed or particularly obtrusive it could work well.

Just wanted to mention I'm keeping an eye on this thread. I'm also thinking about (if we should and) how we can improve ratings on the site.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests
When browsing by Top Rated, if a show has <15 ratings but is rated 4+, would <4 rated shows with >15 ratings sort higher? If so, might be nice to reveal that logic and/or allow customization. Many highly rated shows on my watchlist have <5 ratings, but the few ratings are still directionally helpful.

Could it be useful to have both average and median rating? Not even sure what that could look like though...

That might take a while... For the desktop, try the Dark Reader Chrome extension.

I disagree. Why have it on your watchlist if you never mark an episode (or season) as watched? Not doing so would bloat your watchlist if you show all. As mods and site owners, can you look at our watchlists, i.e. take a random sample? Or set up a poll?

Asking after the season is marked as watched might work. If you wanted to rate a show/season that you've watched, but is not on your watchlist, you'd have to add it first - which increases the use of this site. However, would there be an option if you mark a show as Stop Tracking? I usually mark this if I (or The Husband) dislike the show, but want a record that we did try it (he forgets). Also, do you want people to rate shows by episode ("that ep sucked"), by season, or by show? Or all 3? Personally, I feel by show is too general: remember all the shows that decline as each season airs. By episode seems too detailed except for real TV buffs, but would work best with shows such as The Nature of Things or Four Corners or Whose Line Is It Anyway, i.e. shows in which each episode is a stand alone. I'm hell in company meetings.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests
Personally I'd like to do by season (i've asked before what people do when a 5 star show dumptrucks after a few seasons. looking at you young justice), but could easily do by episode too. Either might be counterproductive for getting more folks to rate though. And might not be easy to implement either.

This is the sorting order when ordered by user rating: (m.rating_count*m.rating + $minimum_rate_count*3.5)/(m.rating_count+$minimum_rate_count)

Re: Features/Improvements Requests
I'm with TeaAndApathy on this one. I use my watchlist constantly to see which episodes I have seen or not. As for ratings, no one has time to rate each individual episode. I may do each season if there was a reminder or prompt to tell me once the last episode airs or I mark it watched. I agree too that there are lots of shows that have declined over the years. Just looks at GoT as one example of the entire last season being horrendously awful compared to the rest of the show. I use https://whattowatchon.tv for my episode/season ratings. (I found out they do actually use the IMDB rating system, I have said previously that they didn't - I was wrong). GoT would be here

I mostly have shows on my watchlist to get show notifications/ info about air dates. I mark stuff as watched, but not religiously and rarely in real time. I can't take a look myself, but I'd love to see some statistics from santah.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests
Ok so I ran a couple of quick queries over users who were active in the past 2 weeks and here are the results: - users who never marked a single episode watched outnumber users who did in ratio of about 2:1 - users who never rated a show outnumber those who did 3:1 (to control for users who only use the mobile app - as it doesn't yet have the functionality to rate shows - I excluded all mobile app users from this query)

Re: Features/Improvements Requests
The first stat is an interesting one given that the feature is meant for. As for the second, I hardly ever rate shows - compared to how many are in my list.

I guess most folks either have a much smaller watchlist or a much better memory than me. Or both.

I'm happy that my gut was right about that. Could you please run the numbers over the last 4 months and see if that changes something?

For 4 months back, when I control for users who just downloaded the app and deleted it shortly after (or bots that registered on the site) - so users who added at least one show to their watchlist - the ratios are pretty much the same.

All three works for me, but everything would start from the episode level, with certain factors that could determine the season level rating. And like you said, if a series goes off the deep end at some point, it could negatively affect my overall rating for the show. Depends whether or not I need to pull the rip cord lol. I've rated religiously on other sites, but the paradox is that it's never a factor whether or not I add a show to my watchlist. The forums is one example that tends to have more of an impact for me. lighton wrote:I mostly have shows on my watchlist to get show notifications/ info about air dates. I mark things watched when I remember to do that, is there a plugin for plex available?

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.
