Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Hey santah, there seems to be a problem with the Stop Tracking feature. I can do it for some shows, but not others.
When I click to stop tracking on something that doesn't work, I'm just immediately sent to the top of the page.
Can't find any particular link between the ones that it works for and the others it doesn't, so I can't really give you more than that.
Randomly, https://next-episode.net/the-slime-diar … as-a-slime works, but https://next-episode.net/peter-grill-an … phers-time doesn't.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Should be fixed now.

As I couldn't replicate it, I'm not 100% sure, but I eliminated what must've caused it.

Let me know!

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Stop tracking is not fixed (for me anyway), clicking the link does nothing.
This is on all my shows in my current track page.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Can you try on another browser so that we're 100% sure it's something on the site and not some add-on?

I can't find anything in the code that may result in this.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

It happens to me as well every now and then. It doesn't send me to the top of the page though; it just does nothing. However, a simple page refresh always works for me. I've tested it across Firefox, Edge, and Chrome. It seems to be random, no particular show in question, and it also seems to only occur after I click on an episode to expand its summary, and after collapsing it. Although I must admit santah that I haven't experienced this problem so far this week. And this is based on heavy usage interacting with my watchlists on a weekly basis.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

OK, I have found the issue.  It's the uBlock Origin filter list called "Quick-Fixes".  There is a line in there specifically for NE to stop the popup for adblockers.

The bug report https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/14962 added it to the list about 22 days ago.
I have logged a second bug report saying that it has broken functionality.

Makes sense. I guess they'll modify it in a way it won't break the site. Keeping an eye on that ...

There is now a pull request in to get it fixed, so hopefully it will be sorted soon.

Oh, that's great. I've only recently installed uBlock to test it, and haven't learned to use it at all. I've added NE to the whitelist, so hopefully that fixes the problem regardless. smile

Good looking out Wiz. Everything's been fine since my last occurrence a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Hey santah, this may be a dumb idea, but I figured I could at least ask, because it would be very highly useful to me and perhaps some other weirdos. smile

The thing is, I do a lot of show management on the site (ignore list, tags, placement in my view-order, et cetera) based on the show's status. So I may choose to push a show with a full season higher on my to-watch list, or stop tracking a show that I've dropped but is returning, or whatever.

To do all that, I always have to open up every show's page, and look at the status there, which is a lot of extra steps when going through a bunch of shows at once. So my thought was, would it be possible to have the option to add the show's status to it's name, basically everywhere in the management pages?
Basically, I see it as something dead simple like adding a symbol after the title to indicate it's status.

Any show that's actually Running, would have a Play symbol (▷), any show that's on hiatus, returning, upcoming, et cetera, would have a Pause symbol (⏸), and any show that's canceled or ended would get a Stop symbol (▢).

So, for example:
"CSI: Vegas" would be "CSI: Vegas " or even "CSI: Vegas ()"
"Willow" would be "Willow ⏸" or even "Willow (⏸)"
"NCIS: New Orleans" would be "NCIS: New Orleans " or even "NCIS: New Orleans ()"

It would have a minimal impact on the UI because it's basically only adding two (or 4) more characters to the name, the Status field already exists in the database, and the displaying of the symbol could be made as a user select-able On/Off toggle.

I wouldn't say "dumb" - but it's a very niche idea. And it might cause even more people to assume that this site is a streaming service (or something like that). smile

Maybe santah has a different idea for how you can do what you want to do in an easier way?

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

I have been hoping for the same thing! I even would actually like to see a number next to the show title like 10 meaning 10 episodes in the current season so I don't have to go through several steps to find out.

1,643

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Could that be done on as a hover over a <span> element to show a <div> element?

...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Show status can easily be added in the Episodes page, either as a hover over the show title, as Daemonius suggested, or maybe as a little status label under the [set tag] [set service] [stop tracking] buttons?

First option seems kinda obscure and random - it's not obvious why the show status would be under a show title mouse over. Also it wouldn't work on mobile.

Second option wouldn't be ideal in collapsed mode.

Arni, your idea with the icons solves the above issues, but I don't love it. It'll add complexity to the UI for potentially very niche use.

More thoughts and ideas?

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Well, I don't know about the rest of the folks, but when I'm doing any sort of management, I'm not going to be doing that on a phone screen. Sure, tapping one or two things in the app is fine, but it's sluggish and limited and the screen real-estate is tiny, so actual, you know, WORK, needs a computer. When I'm doing work like this, I'm opening like 30 windows at a time and clicking 3-4 times a second. (but only because I need to open the lot to see the status, I suppose)
So I guess that an idea for a mouse-over in a browser would be the least intrusive on the UI? But a mouse-over takes a full second to open up, so I might get annoyed waiting and just open the lot up anyway.... roll
As you say, it wouldn't really be good having it disappear in the collapsed mode, because that would defeat the purpose of actually showing it.
From a productivity standpoint, my ideal would always be seeing the information right in my face, even on the Home page but I realize that will certainly not be for everyone.

I think we've discussed colors before, and I know that the color scheme here is seriously limited, but adding color to the symbols would be even better from a visibility/productivity standpoint. tongue

But I guess this could also just be done with fully colored titles instead of symbols? Regular text for a running show, maybe a green for not running, and red for ended? To not confuse with the links/followed links colors. So:
"CSI: Vegas" is running and would thus be normal (there's no real need to color a default state), "Willow" is not running and would thus be "Willow" and "NCIS: New Orleans" is ended and would thus be "NCIS: New Orleans".
It would obviously have to be a user setting, so a user could choose to ruin their UI with the extra colors, or have it "regular".

To lighton's point, if actual play/pause symbols are problematic, there could be simple letters:
(R)unning, (N)ot currently running & (E)nded.
And yes, definitely only the three categories. All the non-running categories have the same function in this respect: It ain't running now, but it may or may not run some day. smile

None of this solves the point of adding complexity to the UI for a niche purpose, though, but I see there's at least two of us eedjits here! big_smile

And to scushman's point, because there isn't always information on how many episodes there are in the season, I don't think it would be beneficial to have that as a perma-display. And although I am advocating for adding 2-4 characters to practically every show title on the page, adding another 5 for the episode count would be going too far. Besides, more often than not, the field would just be empty. But I'd definitely like to be able to see that in a mouse-over if the information were available. Nice idea, fellow Niche! wink

I love the color coded title idea!

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

It would change my life using this app if there was a way to assign my shows to folders or tag them. There are some I watch with my husband and others I watch with a friend or my kids or whatever. It’d be amazing to have a way to bucket these within the app versus scrolling through everything any time I’m looking through my shows. My podcast app has this and it’s been a game changer!

(2019-07, regarding show filters, Link)

santah wrote:

Agreed. The design of these is quite old, inefficient and way due for a redesign.

Do you have concrete ideas for how exactly those can be improved (other than having all available genres to chose from).

In addition to keeping the current filters, would it be possible to have an advanced search we can switch to? It could be really useful to, among other things, be able to search for "shows with genres A, B or C, but none with genres D, E or F" (black-/whitelist).

The current filters are good to get an easy overview because they don't take a lot of space; an optional advanced search could actually make use of whatever vertical space it needs to include every option (example).

Alternately, this could also work as a general advanced global search...
