Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Nope, I can't ... For many reasons, but mostly because it's not yet anywhere close to where I want it to be sad

I see! I was so curious I had to ask. I´m sure it will turn out great though! Keep up the good work!

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

One big suggestion. Please confirm either a show has been canceled or finished. Not Canceled/Finished

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Unfortunately there is no way to (automatically and reliably) know which show was finished and which - cancelled.

Sure, it can be done for some shows, manually, but can it be done for enough to be useful?

Cheers!

I guess sure, if the users could help you with it somehow. I, for one, would love it if there was a difference between Cancelled and Ended. If an interesting series that I haven't watched yet gets cancelled, I often just skip starting it, since I hate having a series end on a cliffhanger that's never finished.

That being said, the actual difference between a Cancelled series and an Ended one, is super vague. Almost all series get cancelled, really.
For me, the only difference is whether the last series ended with a "To Be Continued..." event (or actual text), or just ends in a way that finishes the storyline up to that point.

Not really, there's definitely a distinct difference.

Fox were famous for cancelling shows that cried out for a proper ending.  Now it seems that Netflix are pretty bad too.

I much prefer it when the writers know that it's the last season, which allows them to (hopefully) write a decent ending that wraps everything up.

And then there was Lost...

2020.  Meh.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Distinct? How?
Most series today are written so that the last episode at least doesn't leave too many open ends for the next series. So when that series is Cancelled (because again, 99% of series are cancelled, with only a minuscule portion of them knowing beforehand that the series is ending and this is their last season) then the fans aren't too upset. But you may also want to drum up some excitement for a future storyline. But as long as what has come before has ended, the tease for a possible future doesn't bother me, but might bother others. For me, that show has an end (despite it being cancelled) but for others it might feel like a cancellation. So no, not distinct at all.

When you have series like John Doe, however, where you write an entire suspense series and literally end the last episode entirely unresolved, on a cliffhanger, with the words: "To be continued..." and then don't get picked up for a second season? Now THAT's what I would call a cancellation rather than an ending.

Really, the distinction between a series ending and being cancelled could either be considered the difference between the show writers deciding to quit, or the studio quitting them, OR it could be considered the difference between when the show writers get a head's up at the start of the season, or only find out after the last episode is aired. Again.. not clear at all.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

This has probably been suggested at some point but I'm too lazy to read 59 pages to see.

Would it be possible to move to a 10 star rating system and just double the ratings that've been previously entered? Or would that be too difficult to redesign? The 5-star is really a bit inadequate as I end up rating way too many things 3 stars that were just ok. I know 2 is supposed to be for just ok but then it looks like you're saying the show was below average. I've felt this inadequacy quite a bit of late as there have been several shows where I'm the only/first person rating.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Yeah - a 10 star rating system was suggested before.

While updating our system to use 10 star rating instead of 5 wouldn't be too complicated (I can probably switch to it in about a day) I don't believe it would be an actual upgrade.

If you google around there are many posts on the internet discussing the advantages (and disadvantages) of the 5 star system, but for me - it's mostly about simplicity and giving the user an easy (or easier) choice so they're more inclined to actually use the feature.

And for now - it looks like it works well ...

I hope it makes sense.

Hello.
I'd really appreciate if in search engine  definition (https://next-episode.net/settings?action=sEngine) one could use:
#IMDB_id# and #THETVDB_id#

Hey Luke.

What would the use case for those be?

I'm asking so I can better grasp how useful this addition will be ...

Cheers!

I have seen a review site where one could search for the IMDB_id.

Ok and THETVDB_id? Is it for the same API?

TheTvDB  has its own api and it might be helpful.
I just thought it is complementary.
If you do one ID, so why not the second one - I believed it was the same amount of work.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

It is not about the amount of work, but rather if the potential usefulness makes is worth the added complexity of UI and underlying code.

Yeah, I get it.
For me it is potentially useful, obviously smile
For others? I don't know.
Maybe someone will upvote this some day.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Could we have an easy-to-see and easy to use link to renew our subscription, please? Every year I flap around and end up emailing Santah to renew. He has better things to do.

PS - It's time for me to renew. Like now.

Hey there.

The subscription renews automatically (unless cancelled).

You can easily check your subscription status directly in your PayPal account (where the pre-approved payments are).

I checked and your subscription is active so it'll automatically renew in a few days.

Cheers!

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Thank you for once again taking time out of your hectic life to hold my hand! One of the reasons I love this site.

I'd still like a way to check my subscription status and renewal options from here instead of Paypal because I *know* I'll get anxious again next year.
