Topic: Features/Improvements Requests

As you may have read in the news sections, I'm devoting the next few weeks on fixing/improving/rewriting the whole site.

So any ideas/suggestions/etc are welcome. Please post in here smile

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Happy birthday santah smile

That's good news - TNX in advance!

Some ideas from instant brainstorming wink

- Adding episode title in the Today Tomorrow Yesterday lists
- Fixing/implementing the setting "Show canceled/ended shows in my watchlist"
- Improving the Ajax feature in the Stuff to watch page (clearing the show from the list when no episode is left)
- Moving the "Help" link from the bottom to the top menu
- Improving the Statistics and adding the link to the top menu
- Adding the date for the botd page

I hope you like my gifts big_smile

Have fun and a wonderful day!

Cheers!

- Moving the "Help" link from the bottom to the top menu

The "Help" IS on top of the page... wink

- Improving the Ajax feature in the Stuff to watch page (clearing the show from the list when no episode is left)

That's actually my task and whenever santah's ready for it, i'm happy to do it.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

2 suggestions (both of which i've mentioned to you before so you might already have them on your list):

- Make the "Your Watchlist" column a bit wider so that the (#daysleft) part doesn't appear on the next line so often.
Right now, for me, this happens with Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Atlantis, The war at home, The Colbert report and Avatar: the last airbender.

All of these shows except for avatar just need *a little bit* more space.

- On the browse page, it's not clear to what rating the shows are ordered, or where you got the ratings that are currently visible. It would be nice if you could show all the available ratings, and that it would be possible to sort them according to one's preferred rating.

Thanks in advance for all your work!

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

There is a thread on sorting the list of babes (order by names). Shouldn't be to hard to edit the sql involved.

6

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Although I like the columns you're both writing, I don't think they belong in the top menu. And maybe babe of the day doesn't either.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

First off, your site is particularly wonderful.  I use it every single day.  Thank you.

I guess a link next to shows appearing in the "today" and "yesterday" list to an automatic search in a site like isohunt (programmed to open in a new window) would put you under some legal pressure.   Still, that would be nice.

I wish you would change the order of your today--tomorrow--yesterday on the front page.  Either, Yesterday-today-tomorrow, or...tomorrow-yesterday-today.   Often find myself looking in the wrong place.

It is possible to set up a subscriber email system (with and ad so you get some ad dollars out of it) with our watch list information in it, or perhaps with special information in it?

I would like to see a special link to our watch lists on Google's personalized front pages.  It could be set up with a password to the site where the watch list is retrieved.  One click from the page could send the person to your site.  I think this might increase your traffic.

A one click way to register check a show of personal "to watch lists."

Is it possible to list all shows appearing (or perhaps key shows appearing) if they are on but showing a rerun (with a rerun annotation).  Maybe this is overkill.

Overseas you are often the source for discovering what new shows there are.  Sometimes I look up and see a new show has appeared and it is on episode 4 or season 1, or something like this.  Impossible to have a little list of new shows appearing soon?

Along these lines, new shows are not always clear as to whether they are dramas or some Saturday morning cartoon.  Could they be marked as such?  Some shows which are not cartoons can easily get confused as such (e.g. Heroes) which are not.

I have difficulties getting my time set right with the time zones and such.  If a time zone is punched in, could the lists reflect a correct today, yesterday and tomorrow according to the time zone entered.  Maybe this is designed as such but my login seems to crash out on me when I put in my correct timezone.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Everyone's a critic.!  smile

I agree with Aikoolia, more space is required.  The site shouldn't be restricted to 800px, most people these days have 1024 as their default, expand the site to that size - some one correct me if I am wrong.

Also, gerben is correct, the two Wish list links (arashi and kbear) shouldn't be at the top, move them somewhere else - even a new line would be a better choice.

The comments text on the BOTD section should be the same size as the rest of the site - it would make thinks a bit tidier.

Other than that, it's great.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

I'm taking into consideration everything posted so far (and I'll try to implement most of it).

Now for brian, I'm quoting parts of your post, cause I think they're already implemented. The rest will be either fixed (if it's a bug), or I'll try implementing it if it's something new.

I guess a link next to shows appearing in the "today" and "yesterday" list to an automatic search in a site like isohunt (programmed to open in a new window) would put you under some legal pressure.   Still, that would be nice.

I think that's already in there, just go to Settings / my search engine(s) and see what's in there smile

A one click way to register check a show of personal "to watch lists."

I'm not sure what that is, but don't you mean the existing "watchlist" functionality of the site? You know where you click on "add to watchlist" on a show page ... If not, please clarify it ...

Along these lines, new shows are not always clear as to whether they are dramas or some Saturday morning cartoon.  Could they be marked as such?

Well, on every show page, there is the category in which that show falls ... Isn't that what you ment?

Yet again, thanks all for the suggestions, keep 'em comming smile

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

The question mark link next to the hotness indicator just links back to the home page.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Sorry for the confusion.  The "one click way" to check something off the "Stuff to watch list" from the main page.  This is really insignificant however.

The category is what I meant, just a little lazy of me to go to the "show pages" because my connection is slower than I like.  I was thinking next to the the show title on the main page, a little (C) for cartoon (S) for sitcom (D) for drama, etc.  Maybe if the show pages were a pop-up sized window that opens without leaving the main page.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

I like the idea of knowing what shows are new and in there first season, was wondering if this could be added in the "pick a TV show" menu under shows in season one just like there are shown in ended cancelled. also if in the
"Your watchlist:" for the cancelled ended shows it could say ended because A few times I have found myself wondering why their is no date for the next episode of a show, just to discover that it was cancelled weeks ago and that i now feel stupid for waiting for something that will never come.
Other then that this site is the best thing since Swiss cheese, anything more that's added just makes this site that much better.

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

adding local timings of shows somewhere would be awesome (it's really annoying to convert the time for my timezone all the time, definately with daylight saving time)
maybe by making a real schedule page, with shows sorted by day & hour with all needed info (local airing time, season/episode, episode name)

and then a much less important thing, because I live in europe I get this:

Tuesday
Heroes
Season: 1 Ep: 7
Prison Break
Season: 2 Ep: 10
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Season: 1 Ep: 7
The Class
Season: 1 Ep: 7
Prison Break
2x10 - Mon Nov 06
The Class
1x07 - Mon Nov 06
Heroes
1x07 - Mon Nov 06
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
1x07 - Mon Nov 06

it might be working as intended, but it still feels very weird
tuesday (local timing) on the right side, monday (US timing) on the left side

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Perhaps you should try to pump up the forum messages... not quite sure how without destroying the layout and pushing down the news and tomorrow/today/yesterday listing.
but it would add some more community feeling to the page. i'm not really into this whole web2.0-community-thingie, but i like to read some posts in the forums, whenever i see an interesting topic on the frontpage. don't really have the time to crawl through the whole forum (which has many subs...).

when i'm reading some post in here, it would be best to make the frontpage customized from user to user... so everyone could just drag-and-drop their container with forum posts the where they want. with the addition to widen the layout a bit, the two columns on the left and right could stay, but in the center column you could make 4 boxes of content (forum, news, yesterday/tomorrow/today, botd thumb(?)) which can be dragged around by the user to fit his needs.

not quite sure, if this could work for next-episode, but i like the concept of it wink

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

First off, the site is fantastic smile  But, there are a few wee things I'd like changed/improved.

1.  Watchlist and Calendar columns widened to keep full show name on a single line

2.  Shows listed in "Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday" alphabetised

3.  Shows beginning with "The" corrected e.g. "The Closer" changed to "Closer, The"

4.  On the Home Page, I never use the "stuff to watch", "browse" or arashi and karenbear's watchlist tabs - could a menu be set up whereby in my settings I can tick boxes to only show the things I want on the Home Page ?

Santah (et al) - thanks for the site and please don't ever think of stopping !!

20

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

i think combining forum and site user accounts would be a good thing..... and then make it so that ppl can see other ppl's watchlists, recommendations etc.... make it so its all a bit more community-driven

also.... make it obvious where shows are from.....

eg. i'm from england, and it tells me that spooks in on a monday (which it is) but torrents become available on tuesday.... i'd like it to tell me when torrents are available.... not when its actually on tv

21

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

Could we have a calender such as this: http://www.pogdesign.co.uk/cat/#November2006 that only displays shows from our watchlist? I know I can do that there but the settings are saved as a cookie so if I delete them or use a different computer then they're lost!

22

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

I would really like a next-episode Opera Widget that pulls down my personal viewing list that I can stick in some corner of the screen... Would such a thing be possible?

23

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

as an opera user myself - would also enjoy such a feature, but I don't think I'm gonna spare the time to make it (although I may surprise myself and do) smile

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

@ caboto & santah: tnx for updating the ajax in the 'stuff to watch' feature. It's great and works nearly perfect, but there is one small bug:
It removes the whole show from the list if you remove the last episode of a season, but if you have unwatched episodes in other seasons left the show is removed from the list too. You have to refresh the page to see the other seasons again.

Maybe you have a look into that if you have some time wink

TNX again for this great feature. Great job caboto!

Re: Features/Improvements Requests

yeah. we know about that bug. it appears only in tree view though...

i tried to fix it today, before santah but everything on. it's sad to say, but it can't be fixed right now. it's nearly impossible to detect whether there are still episodes for a show or not, so i can't really find out, if i can remove the show or not. i'm sorry for that...

as soon as santah did some rewriting, i'll have another look into it.
