Sherlock depicts "consulting detective" Sherlock Holmes, who assists the Metropolitan Police Service, primarily D.I. Greg Lestrade, in solving various crimes. Holmes is assisted by his flatmate, Dr. John Watson.

Sherlock Holmes in the 21st century, written by Stephen Moffat and Mark Gattiss.  Might be worthy of a looksee if you're a Doctor Who fan...

Re: Sherlock

Well, it was bloody brilliant! Writing was excellent, but let's be honest, we expect that from Moffat by now. But I thought they nailed the characters, they were well-written and well-acted. Moving the story to the present actually helped it a lot and since they stayed true to the spirit of Doyle's stories it was very enjoyable. Great cast, fantastic direction (I loved all the text that was shown on screen) and a highly entertaining story. I hope the ratings are murder and come Monday morning the BBC orders a lot more than just this initial three 90-minute episode run. (And of course I hope Moffat can find the time to write all episodes in between Who seasons.)

Re: Sherlock

well i have read most of Doyles Sherlock Holmes stories. at first i was a bit cautious about nowadays theme, but they played it out really well. i can't say that i'm really hyped about the series, because i have seen the best actor playing Sherlock. But it was pretty decent and i enjoyed it.

Re: Sherlock

Moffat just tweeted that the ratings were 7.5 million people, which according to his reaction was very good. Here's to hoping that BBC will soon order more episodes and that he has the time to write them next to Doctor Who.

Re: Sherlock

Was a good start to the show, story and acting were great but the editing was imo awful, the texts were fine, in fact i thought that was quite a clever way of showing peoples texts but the chase scene ewww....

Although i didn't think the crime was actually clever enough i felt like i was always one step ahead of Holmes.... not sure if it was meant to be like this or not tbh as most of it was quite obvious imo.

Re: Sherlock

Just finished watching it.  It was about as easy to solve as your average episode of Monk, but then I don't think that really matters.  What matters is that it was bloody brilliant anyway!  How much to I love Steven Moffat - he yet to disappoint me in anything he's written.  Which now that I think about it, is a scary place to be in the eyes of your fans...

I'd only ever seen Benedict Cumberbatch in Hawking, in which he was amazing, so I was delighted to see it wasn't just a fluke, and he is capable of being just as amazing here as well.  While I can quite enjoy the Holmes stories, I'm not always fussy for the man himself, but I love his sociopathic take.

And I think I can finally forgive Martin Freeman for being in that bloody awful movie version of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.  Which feels good.  You need someone special to be able to play a significant part next to anyone playing Sherlock Holmes, and he was brilliant.

And did anyone else get a serious Princess Bride vibe from the whole thing?
