Yes It doesn't give the "oh-let's-fuck-it-up-so-much-that-we-won't-even-know-what's-it-about" vibe.

Re: Rubicon
This is way too cerebral for US audiences so it's sure to get cancelled which would be a great pity.

This is AMC, not Fox, CBS or NBC. So don't be so sceptical.

Re: Rubicon
I watched the pilot three times, because I felt asleep every time. Still don't know how it ends but it might be interesting - too much conspiracy for my taste
▼Spoiler It has to be a major conspiracy to kill someone with a train accident on purpose!

Re: Rubicon
Exactly my problem too, i did had a hard time not to fall asleep with this one, too slow pacing for my taste. Maybe i try another episode but not sure yet.

Re: Rubicon
You can't fault AMC for not going for the whole spectrum range with their TV shows. First Mad Men revives the sixties (not just in theme, but also in narrative and cinematic style) and now Rubicon brings back 70s style movie making in a TV series format. Yes, it was definitely very slow paced and basically nothing happened in the pilot, but I dig the slow burning conspiracy and the atmosphere they've been building. Let's be honest, any conspiracy that involves a very public train crash (an extremely ridiculous method of murder) must be so ridiculously over the top that the longer we don't know the details, the more we'll enjoy the show for its storytelling and atmosphere, before the inevitable reveal will kill it

Re: Rubicon
Just finished watching it (yes its 4am - I can't sleep). Very strange pilot episode, and as maccool111 said, I think it's too 'clever' for the average American where they repeat everything every five minutes just in case they can't keep up. Looking forward to it - I hope it at least gets a chance.

It will. I never saw a cable channel that cancelled a series during it's initial run. After a season is completed - then they decide.

Re: Rubicon
just watched the trailer and i literaly almoust shat my pants at the end i don't think it's fair to do something like this with a trailer;after a minute and a half your brain is ready to go into sleep mode and then they shove a train in your face! that's just mean, man.

Too smart show for typical tv.com readers. I liked the pilot, but I don't have the time to keep watching this, especially since I've picked up on a lot of new summer shows.

Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: Rubicon
And now I know what Rubicon reminds me of ... Zodiac. It's the very same deliberate, slow-burning thriller style. Ramping up the atmosphere and tension so slowly it seems like nothing is going on. I loved the second episode, especially how low-key everything except the main conspiracy and the train crash is being kept. No over threats, no explosions, no chases, just a guy following Chase-from-24 home and standing in front of his door. Love it. P.S.: I totally expect Chase-from-24 to reveal during the course of the season that one of his hands is a prosthetic, because it got chopped off by Jack Bauer, at which point he will take the nearest axe and dismantle the conspiracy Jack Bauer-style!

Re: Rubicon
I really like the piano theme. (In the second episode it is from 21:09 to 22:24).
