Re: New Doctor Who
I have to say I was quite impressed. Matt Smith looks very strange, and he mostly seemed to be copying David Tennant's style of Doctor, but I reckon he'll grow on me. I don't like his clothes at all though, or the new music, but I think overall it was a good first episode for a new Doctor. And new sexy assistant. Mmm. Oh, on another note, KB, what did you think about the comment "...you're Scottish - fry something"?!
2020. Meh.

Sounds like a stereotype, but in my experience these things becomes stereotypes because they're true.

Re: New Doctor Who
I don't get it. If I want to start watching Dr Who, what do I watch? There is something called Dreamland, something from 2009, something from 2005..? Can someone help me make sense of it?

start from first season, that is Doctor Who(2005) Dreamland is just some extra or something like that and in 2009 it's just four(or was it five?) special episodes after 4th season.

New doctor is looking good so far. Maybe better than tennant. I really liked Amy Pond also, so I voted better.

Yeah but it accepted that Dr Who(2005) is from the reboot till present. Start there with ecelstons doctor and enjoy the ride.. As for "you're scottish...fry something" ..Scotland, one of my favorite countries in the world is the only country I have EVER been to where you can buy a fried Mars bar at a local fish and chip shop...possibly one of the weirdest things I have ever eaten.

Re: New Doctor Who
I hated Tennant when he took over from Eccleston, but he grew on me rapidly Fave quote from ep #1 Doctor - What's that? Amy - It's a duck pond Doctor - Then why aren't there any ducks in it?

Re: New Doctor Who
Because it is a duck pond, not a pond of ducks. I don't think that the "new" Who is actually a reboot. They didn't throw away almost thirty years of continuity did they?

no, they didn't. The new Doctor is the the 11th Doctor. but for new comer it's hard to watch or even get original Doctor Who all seasons to watch, specially when some episodes are damaged or gone missing in time. and we all know how it's feels to watch really old series, specially if you are young and wasn't a kid when it aired or was showned in your local tv station. So i started from Doctor Who(2005) and in time just googled about the Doctors before the 9th to understand more about that universe, but of course it isn't really that needed, because Doctor Who(2005) is build so that if you haven't seen the series before you won't think all the time wtf and they explain major villains and their backstories..

Re: New Doctor Who
I'm old and I've been a fan of Doctor Who for years. I started watching at the end of John Pertwee's era, and got right into it with Tom Baker (who is still my favourite). So I grew up with Daleks, Davros, Cybermen, the lot. And it DOES help to have seen the old stuff when you are watching the "reboot". I know because I did it! Doctor Who is a British institution!

Yeah thats why they call it a reboot or relaunch and not a remake it ran from 1963-1989 then stopped until 2005. Small point I know but well...I'm bored and it seems important atm

Or perhaps giving me some examples from the new show, where you'd get it if you had seen the old one... ?

Re: New Doctor Who
Well, here is one. At one point the Doctor says that he tried the whole family thing once. In the original series in the first ten episode he had a "granddaughter" named "Susan Foreman" She was the "Unearthly Child" of the title for the first part of the first episode. When the series began they named every episode of every show. Of course her real name wasn't actually Foreman. If it was Susan or not isn't even really clear, altho that is what she was always called. Also now it is sorta murky if it has been retconned to not even truly be his "granddaughter" The doctors first two companions were Susan's curious teachers who wanted to know why she was so peculiar. Upon finding out that the address she had given the school was just a junkyard they followed her "home" and saw her enter the TARDIS

Re: New Doctor Who
Well for one most of the old doc's had K9... There was more of a sherlockian thing going between the daleks and davros with the doctor more than the current incarnation. The older ones seemed a little more spookier..but they may just be the vintage(y) feel it has to it with the sound track, where as the new ones seem more mystical.

Re: New Doctor Who
It's like when the Daleks turn up. If you haven't seen the old stuff you don't know why The Doctor fears them so much. Or who The Master is, and why they don't get on. You don't necessarilly have to know all the back stories, it just helps. Personally, I don't like calling these "rebooted" episodes Doctor Who (2005). It's the same programme, just with a huge gap in between series! Why not download or buy some old Partrick Hartnell stuff? You'll get to see a hell of a lot more of the TARDIS that's for sure. That's one thing I think they should do in these new series, go for a walk inside the TARDIS. I mean, it's in it's own dimension, it's... MASSIVE. But you only ever see the main control room. There isn't even just one control room!
2020. Meh.

Re: New Doctor Who
Something I would like to see dealt with in the new series is the Valeyard. In Trial of a Time Lord, the Doctor was put on trial by the Timelords for Genocide. The person who was the plaintiff was revealed to be the Doctor himself in his 13th and last incarnation having turned evil. Being that the Doctor is now on his 11th Regeneration. The whole story of the Valeyard is way to complicated to go into here. If you wanna look into it you can go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valeyard Altho even that is sorta confusing what with alot of noncannon stuff, alternate timelines, etc.
