Topic: Linking existing user with the app

UPDATE: Just use the settings menu in the app to log in to your Next Episode account - there is no longer a need for (nor does it work) the method below.

Linking your existing Next Episode user (and having all the shows you watch and the same stuff to watch) to the iPhone app is simple, you just need to:

in the app:

1) go to My Shows
2) go to Add New (the + sign on top)
3) in the search field type: link: username, password
4) tap the search button

So if my username is Admin, and my password is 123, I would've typed there:

link:Admin,123

Your app account should now be linked with your site account !

I recommend fixing this in future updates.

+1
This is like a "secret option" smile
This should be in settings

Re: Linking existing user with the app

You think there isn't a solid reason not to put it in there? smile

5

Re: Linking existing user with the app

I get that, but the way it is now is really annoying…

Re: Linking existing user with the app

Yea, also it's confusing for users who don't know about the site to be prompted with a login when they don't really need one smile

And what is so annoying about it if you only ever do it once?

7

Re: Linking existing user with the app

Don't prompt them them...
add in settings (connect to n-e site account)
This way, you'll get users to sign up to the site

Re: Linking existing user with the app

I also think this should be an option in the settings, right know you can't see which account (or if an account) is mapped smile

If there is a setting for that, you could even have multiple accounts wink

The current way is too nerdy tongue

It would help reduce the amount of daft reviews you're getting saying they're disappointed that they can't link their account with the app.  neutral

Re: Linking existing user with the app

Santah, its a must. Too weird not having a user/pwd option in 'settings'

Re: Linking existing user with the app

I want to buy the app but I need to know the following:
Are my watched episodes synced with the site, if I linked it? For example on my phone I check an episode as watched and it diappears from stuff to watch list on the site? And vica versa?

Re: Linking existing user with the app

Awesome app! Love it!

The user/pwd thingo is a bit strange. I don't understand why not to expose it. Pretty sure you'd want to increase your user base.

I think I'd add an option where a user can work with your app and then at some point if he wishes to register you can sync it all for him once he registers in the site. Wouldn't be surprised if you already store his data online in your DB under some sort of an anonymous account. If that's true then the sync (app -> site) would be even easier after a successful registration in the site.

Anyway, these are just the strange voices in my head, ignore..  smile

Bottom line - great app! Thanks! Been waiting for it!

Say, how come it's already in Installous?? Kidding!! Just a joke!!  smile

Cheers!

Scared me there for a while smile

And sure, I'm keeping iphone user accounts pretty much the same way as site accounts. Future integration from the app to the site will be possible
