Topic: 510

Last week I was reminiscing about how much the show has changed over the five years. Where are the (simpler) stories with Conrad and Heylia? The stories that were limited to a single suburb with Celia being the judgmental typical American hausfrau? We've come a long way. And while I enjoy this "new" show I still miss the old show - or better, the old shows since Weeds went through more than metamorphosis.

Several things come slowly to light that make the new season really good. First and foremost the Nancy-Esteban relationship. It has always been a very strange love affair with him having all the power, which put Nancy in a position she wasn't used to. In season four it seemed it took all her "cunning" to not get swept up and overwhelmed. With this episode we finally see that in the moment Esteban was willing to give up his career and the fight for her and her family, she could become Lady Macbeth and assume a different position of power than she ever had before.

Next of course the return of Celia. Celia was relegated to a punch line over season four, being the butt end of every lame joke with her addiction, etc. Now, with the theft of Sylas' weed she's back with a cunning vengeance making the show so much better. And with her return we get to see the return of Doug. Oh I am sooo looking forward to a Doug-Celia showdown!

All in all, like I said, I love the show, but my mind refuses to believe that it is the same show about the middle-aged widow making ends meet by selling weed to spoiled suburban family people. And I don't know if that is a good thing or not ...
