Re: Torchwood s03e01 finally! [SPOILERS!!!]

Could just be flashbacks that will show some timelords...

Re: Torchwood s03e01 finally! [SPOILERS!!!]

Hmm...

This is the first time that anything Dr. Who-related has struck me as quite eery, or even downright scary. Heaps of children in unison. Brrr... I don't even like children when they're their usual chaotic selves. Quite a difference from the old Torchwood. Seems like they've been moving it up a notch for every season. I wasn't quite satisfied with the first one. Everything was so... visibly low budget. A Range Rover equipped with christmastree lighting? The "wheebles" or whatever those creatures were called just looked like people in rubber masks, and I guess they were. Dr. Who is fun and all, but it seems like this spinoff has gradually been switching gears into full on scifi, and not ehr... science-comedy - the genre within which Dr. Who operates half the time.

Will there be any more of Torchwood under the same name, or was this a clean finish, like the one they (eventually) made with the Farscape miniseries? More timelords sounds like fun - but as said, Dr. Who is a different beast from what we've just seen. Used to be, at least. Perhaps that too will change for the next season.

Re: Torchwood s03e01 finally! [SPOILERS!!!]

This is indeed, the best I've ever seen Torchwood.... But than, it was a 5-hour episode... things usually get better when the writers get the time to explain things, and bring up a case before it's solved...

By the way, I half expected the grandson to come back to life when he was dead... like an inheritance thing. I'm glad that didn't happen though..

Small Dr. Who spoiler below... don't look unless you've seen the whole third season of it..

Spoiler

I wonder if we will see Harkness again as the captain, or if it will be the face of bow the next time...

there has been mentions of season 4 here and there, but always with the word 'potential' preceding it....

Re: Torchwood s03e01 finally! [SPOILERS!!!]

RTD said that a season 4 depends on how season 3 will do. If enough people watch then the Beeb would pay for another season and he would probably keep it in the same format (which is more than fine by me). It would probably start, as season 2 did, with a "new" Torchwood trying to make ends meet and episode one would probably end with a dramatic entrance of (half-dead and definitely naked) Captain Jack spelling out some potential threat for Earth he discovered while traveling and which he came back to stop ...

Judging by the reactions in this forum it seems that enough people liked season 3 (a lot), but I have no access to UK viewer numbers, so I have no idea how well the mini-series did in the ratings. Here's to hoping ...

Re: Torchwood s03e01 finally! [SPOILERS!!!]

It did very well in the ratings, but I don't know what their expectations were.  It got the best ratings Torchwood has ever got at least - 6.something million viewers at its peak

Re: Torchwood s03e01 finally! [SPOILERS!!!]

So I watched Children of Earth and even though I knew that it will be great, it blew my every expectations, 'specially that I watched S01 not three months ago and in comparison, hell and heaven. Wow.

Don't get your hopes up too much for season 4 though.  Season 3 is definitely Torchwood at its peak.

I'll grant you the first series, but the second one was a lot better.
