Torchwood s03e01 finally! [SPOILERS!!!] (Page 1 of 2)

I think this mini-series format did wonders for Torchwood. It struggled in its first season, didn't really know what it wanted to be or what tone it was going for, but I thought it found its legs in its second season - especially towards the end when it embraced the darker storylines fully and went all out in the finale.

Now season 3 comes along with a longer, more epic story, which keeps the show away from the lame monster-of-the-week stories that dragged it down in the first season. And the fact that RTD shook things up and nothing is status quo like we were used to helps a lot too.

So you could say that I am thrilled by the first two episodes Here's to hoping the remaining three can keep up.

I was very pleased so far with Torchwood, everything I have come to expect (and some i did not) from the series!...  looking forward to the last 3!

btw, anyone else notice that Gwen seems to have quite the tan now?.....as compared to series 1 &2.. haha

I'll watch them all together in one big marathon

Wow, I did not think they would go that far ... Kudos to RTD, way to turn up the darkness. Although it does force the solution to be a quickie, i.e. within the last day (hour of the show).

I've never been a big fan of torchwood, but I've always kept watching in respect for Doctor Who... But I got to say, I really like these episodes so far.. they've been brilliant!

And what do you know, Gwen addresses my "Doctor complaint" right in the cold open ...

But seriously, wow. RTD, where were these writing skills during your tenure as Doctor Who showrunner? At that time we get implied cobblestone-BJs and for Torchwood you create this epic, thrilling, socio-critical masterpiece?

While the finale came up with a quick solution (in the last 15 minutes) it was anything but cheap. I loved how really really really dark the episode got, how ambiguous the morality became, and how high the cost of victory ended up being.

Season 3 is really Torchwood at its best and I only hope we get more of this type of drama. Kudos to BBC for pushing the envelope of how dark a show can get ... I'm still reeling from a few scenes. Damn.

Wow!  Just finished watching all 5 episodes in one sitting.  Gotta agree with you Marco - I love how dark it got.  Sometimes I get so sick of TV that has no consequences.  Even though they won in the end, I love how everything they did still had a real cost to it, and the writing and acting and everything made the viewer feel every part of it.  Just wonderful. 

Although I gotta say, it totally broke my heart when Ianto died!  I think he was my favourite character, and he and Jack were so pretty together.  And it was kinda nice to have a show that wrote its own slash fanfiction. 

Just finished the episode...All together, Meh...Okay...

phew... earlier in the week i decided to trade my usual sunday afternoon mindless [you know... Robin Hood, Legend of the Seeker etc] for watching for all 5 episodes of Torchwood... and honestly... i'm emotionally exhausted... loved every freaking second of it... damn shame about Ianto though... and i gots to say... Euros Lyn directed the absolute crap out this puppy... even my usual wince when i see "written by Russell T Davies" has been cured... and again... loved every freaking second of it...

forgot to mention that no Martha Jones was a blessing...
