Topic: Favourite Star Trek?
Publicity for the new movie has been in overdrive recently, so I thought we could do a poll looking back on Trek history to see which is the favourite version so far. I personally own every episode (yes, I actually bought them) from the beginning of the original series, to the end of Voyager (Enterprise sucked!). But DS9 is my personal fav.

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
Oh sure it's easy to dis Trek here in the 21st century. We've had a virtual deluge of great Sci Fi shows and movies over the last 15 years or so. When I was just a small boy growing up in California and TOS was brand new though, (before the original cancellation) it formed my taste in on screen entertainment.

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
Wow, I can't believe DS9 is trailing so far behind. Let's hope it picks up more votes, because objectively it is the Star Trek for the 21st century. As good as TNG was, it never dreamed of the story complexity and depth of DS9's last few seasons ...

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
ds9 is the best star trek by far in my opinion, even if i really like the cast of TNG, i gotta say i enjoy the character developments and plots in ds9 far more.... plus worf is cool and really tops the cast in season 4 when he comes to ds9 the overall plot is better, the humor is better, the characters have more depth, the enemies are cool, the whole setting is great and dax is hot cant go wrong with ds9 in my opinion! ds9 REALLY needs a movie to wrap stuff up!

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
TNG ftw - there was no Captain like Picard And me thinks DS9 was the weakest of all Star Trek series but still being better than most other general sci-fi And on second place I would put Enterprise - this series is way misunderstood and didn't get the chance to reach its full potential

Nope ... or well, I guess that I might have seen one or two random episodes on TV, but nothing that counts...

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
or maybe he just knows what is good for him.... i mean, honestly, TOS is halfway decent, but then again, i'm a nut for old twilight zone, et al... TOS aside, i recently tried to watch Voyager... got about 15 episodes in [after i downloaded all 7 seasons... gah] before i cracked it... none of the characters were worth giving a damn about, and most of them were downright annoying... TNG, i at least got through the first season... maybe 5 eps into 2nd and decided i was going to just download the Borg episodes and that was it... Enterprise, i saw ONE episode on tv a while back and it was so fucking bad i don't even want to think about it... DS9, however, i have been slowly plodding through the 1st season, but about a year in and i've barely watched ten episodes... but i'm not hating it... methinks the myth here is greater than the quality of the show itself... shit, if you want to watch some good old school scifi, go watch blake's 7...
i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
You can't judge any of the Treks by the first season. While I consider DS9 my favourite, I will always have a fondness in my heart for TNG as my first TV obsession, and looking back as a multiple viewer of every single episode, the first season is often laughable. In fact I would say they don't find their feet until season 3. That and season 4 are the best IMO.

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
my bitching aside, i am determined to get through DS9, mostly for the ron moore factor... and the fact that everybody i know who watched it with any sense of dedication just rave about the above quoted complexity and depth... watching Voyager though i found the only character i had a modicum of tolerance for was Tom Paris... and the rest, like i said... plain annoying... and i think, in hindsight, having sat here trying not to think about it, my distaste for TNG comes mostly from the fact that it was a huge deal to me when i was younger, but when i decided to rerun the episodes last year all it clearly fell into the "you can't go home again" basket... maybe i should try to be a bit more open minded... maybe... /me is off to watch some DS9 now... :S edit: Mxyzptlk wrote:KB! 1418th
huh...? methinks if you are going to make posts purely to draw attention to the number of posts you have made, you forfeit the right to pay attention to how many posts you have made... edit: only post counts of pop-culturally significant numbers should be recognised... ie 420... for the pot refrence...; 5150... for the van halen/insanity thing...; 4815162342...

Re: Favourite Star Trek?
gah... i'll get over it when we get rid of it and as far as the remastered TOS goes... i think it achieves what they wanted with it [making it more palatable for a younger audience]... but personally, it wasn't for me... part of the charm of the untouched episodes was how bad they looked...

You're probably right... but it was pretty significant since me and KB were both standing on 1417, which was just one of those weird coincidences... so I felt it deserved a post...
