Topic: iCal subscribing?

Are we able to subscribe to the iCal feed from our Calendar in our own calendaring program (such as iCal or Google Calendar)?

I did so in iCal, and it pulled in this month's calendar information, but not the next (I assume each "iCal download" is valid for the current month view in the calendar)?

Indeed. And schedules are changing all the time, so having more than a month ahead, is impractical ..

Re: iCal subscribing?

Even though schedules change all the time, I think it would be nice to just subscribe once to your ICS, and then in your calendar program you can have it refresh at certain intervals (for instance, I set mine once per day) ... that way it's always fresh with content (modified or not).

Is there anything we can do to modify the feed now to do this? tongue I think it would be an awesome feature  for many.

Re: iCal subscribing?

You should be able to do that now (subscribe). You just won't be able to see beyond the current month.

How do you see it ideally? How many months ahead should it show?

Subscribing works for me… tvf, maybe you need to just set your auto refresh in iCal?

I think it should be something like the next 4 and maybe the past 2 weeks instead of the current month. The way it's now, I have data until Tuesday and then suddenly nothing, it would be great to see what'll be on on Wednesday…

Greetings Santah,

http://next-episode.net/export_calendar … dasdjh.ics

Let's say if the above is the URL for my subscription into iCal (ICS) ... since it indicates "month=4" in the URL, does that mean that once it hits May (month=5) that May's information won't populate into iCal unless I log back into Next-Episode and subscribe to the next URL (which would have month=5)?

Ideally, we have one subscription URL, and the URL will show the shows for the 2 previous weeks, and 2 weeks ahead of time, according to the current day.

So if I have my auto-refresh in iCal set to check every day, from that specific day, it would show 2 weeks of TV schedule information in both directions (previous days, and future days).

I don't think this is possible in the current setup? Would be a lovely addition smile

Thanks for hearing me out, much appreciated! smile

Re: iCal subscribing?

You're absolutely right. Will do the 2 weeks ahead/behind in the following days. Thanks for the excellent feedback and suggestion smile

Re: iCal subscribing?

It looks like tv.com usually doesn't update (for some shows) until pretty close to when they air. If so, can we increase the show archives back from 2 weeks to maybe 4-8 weeks in the feed? Or maybe have this user adjustable? smile

Re: iCal subscribing?

Hey santah, was just putting in a kind bump on the above request tongue it would be nice to have the ical subscription show as far in the past and future as possible tongue nice to go back and reference past shows from weeks ago, and weeks ahead tongue thanks!

Re: iCal subscribing?

sure man, will take a look at it. I'm kinda overwhelmed with work right now, but first chance I get - I'll modify this smile

Re: iCal subscribing?

Hi, will this feature you mentioned still be implemented?
I'm just asking because a friend of mine and I are creating a QT application at the moment which fetches data in the form of the .ics calendar-file from your website. Afterwards this file is read and the user is able to set reminder-functions to his favorite shows, so that the program informs him when a new episode of his favorite show is aired. We began to develop it on friday, at the moment it's working great and because we are using QT the program runs on Linux, Windows and even Mac I guess. It would be someway cooler if we were able to fetch more data than just 1 month I think.

Re: iCal subscribing?

Show me the app, maybe I can give you custom feeds for that ...

Re: iCal subscribing?

The application is still under development, but I just compiled a .exe for Windows to show you how it looks at the moment. You can find it here => http://code.google.com/p/qtv/
Our application is open-source, that's why everbody is welcome to test/modifiy/work on it. If someone finds a bug or has got an idea for a feature we could add, please tell us. Contact-Details are on our project-page.

Re: iCal subscribing?

greetings santah, just a rebump for the feature request above tongue

Re: iCal subscribing?

just a bump and my 2 cents.

I think instead of having a static 2 amount ahead and back or a specific month it would be great to say x works forward and x week back.

For example, http://....../export_calendar?weeksforward=24&weeksback=4&u=me

Thanks for the great site too!

Re: iCal subscribing?

I have added the URL to my Google calendar for the .ics link generated with my username.  However, it is showing all shows instead of just the ones from my watchlist. The Show all shows in the Calendar checkbox is unchecked.  When I save as an .ics and import in to Google Calendar, it works fine. What am I missing here?

I'm new here, but i having the exact same problem. With both Google Calendar and iCal.

Re: iCal subscribing?

Same here.
I have already made Google Export, but now I delete current and Im add .ical from site. And I see all serials (no filter on my own watchlist is made)

http://next-episode.net/settings?action=calendar
[ ] Show all shows in the Calendar (don't filter it against my watchlist)
(unchecked)

Re: iCal subscribing?

Here's how i fixed it. Go into your Calendar Tweaks, under settings. Check the Box to Show all Shows. Save it. Uncheck it. Save. Then try to subscribe. Worked for me. YMMV.

This is also happening to me. I have created a watchlist and the calendar on the website correctly displays just the shows on this list. If I download the ICS manually while logged in it appears to work correctly. If I am not logged in, however, I get a calendar with all shows diplayed on it. This means subscribing with Google Calendar or Outlook does not display correctly.

Here is the URL for my calendar: http://next-episode.net/PAGES/misc/expo … f8427e.ics

Re: iCal subscribing?

well. this "all shows" problem was same here but now its fixed but it messed the 1day delay for torrent so now i have all show showing 1day early for europe sad

Re: iCal subscribing?

Now it works properly big_smile
